  • terima kasih opa

  • i cant do it my hands are too small

  • love,love,love you gg...

  • check lukesolo99 vid on here playing it. thats the way summers play it. no first finger movement, i am not knocking this version is the same but fingers are moving.

  • I think its easier to bar chord it. It just takes more stretching.

  • @stripeysoul This is the correct way mate, apart from myself, this is the only person I have seen playing it pre unplugged version

  • This is the only other way I've seen it played correctly as Andy Summers actually played it on the track and NOT as seen/heard on the unplugged video/album as many other comments would have people believe, I play it this way on my electric and the unplugged way on my acoustic....Nice upload

  • @1Joeyknuckles sorry but summers dont move his first finger at all. he uses all 4 fingers in position. check his vids. you can play it this way, but summers dont as i seen his vids close up.

  • @who8allthepies He makes it look easy, also, listen very carefully to the album, you wiil hear the pull off from the 9th fret-5string to the 7th fret.

  • fender rulez:)

  • why not just palm mute and fret the whole add9 shape? this is great arpeggio training though;)

  • This song is easier if you tune the D string up two steps to 'E', then play the 4 chords, A, F#m, D & E in the normal shape of the E barr chords. The add9 is created when you tuned the D up to E. For the Chorus, play in the A barr shape the Eb, F & G but leave the D string open to ring on your index finger that is barred across the neck. Works great , sounds perfect and the retuning can be done on the fly while playing live too!

  • You want to hear something wierd??

About 1 1/2 - 2 years ago, this very video insprired me to get an electric guitar and made me fall in love with Fender. So I got my Candy Apple Red reissue one.

I learnt this song instaed of oasis and other easiest of songs, and now I have a great technique. (Thanks for kicking of my future career, Lol!!!!)

It would be better just palm muting it with a bit of delay, but great tone there!!!!

    All the best, Matt.

(I'll pay you back in years to come.)

  • cool!!!!

  • do you have to tune the guitar down? if yes, how?

  • deadly buzz:-) perfect for to learn with johnny!!!!! appreciate:-)

  • cool men

  • nice !!!!!!

  • Hey Jhonny I need more of close up if possible. Thankyou! so much for your video! You Rock!

  • wow man i'd luv to giv ya an e chord from behind on tht luvly sofa good work man luv it.

  • mosguitar what are you talking man ??? hahaha

  • yes but this song has been written by the police not p diddy

  • Is a police song and puff daddy made a version.

  • Very nice! Thanks for posting

  • its by P diddy man they jocked his song

  • I really hope you are kidding

  • i really hope im not!

  • You are way off. P Diddiy took this of the "Police."

Written by Sting and originally performed by The Police in 1983. Christopher Wallace, B.I.G, died in 1997. His death inspired the, Diddy, song.

  • That is why the Police recorded it in the eighties.

  • great lesson, great playing.

  • hey can you please show/tell the chords used..?

    cheers

  • youtube 'andy summers lesson' for the best instruction

  • yeah thats how I learned to play message in a bottle and roxanne =)

  • the added 9th is difficult at first but stretch and hold this practising every five minutes per day and your hand will get use to it.

  • mmm doesnt sound quite right .... listen to this watch?v=ZMhwnfKuhis

difference is you hold the chord and some notes do ring ... they are not all staccato... good effort though

you palm mute this to get some staccato and some ringing

  • hey man i really think ur instructional vids are great! just a suggestion....john mayer has an amazing dvd out called "where the light is" and he plays sum crazy hendrix along with his own stuff...if u could break down one of his "trio" songs that would be awesome

  • don't forget guys that's E minor you switch to from G, not F# minor. He's got a drop D tuning goin on, which is cool i like it. I also like the idea of picking up your fingers like that its so hard to hold the whole chord

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry stripeysoul, this is exactly how it is played. You have a choice whether to hold the bar chord or play individual frets with your index finger, but the notes are correct and, just as importantly, played in the right order!!

  • congrulation's !!!

  • looks like waay to much finger movements

  • @xFSASxxx I can't vouch for the notes, but this is what it looks like when Summers plays it. That's definitely the technique...it's not easy

  • Dude, you've helped me understand so many songs. I have especially enjoyed "little wing" and "down and out" in addition to this song.

    thanks again man

  • thanks learned it fourth try

  • easy one of the best lessons ive seen for this thanks

  • lol ok ok i take tht back ;D

just pointing out something similar to what the person below me said :P

  • ur supposed to hold the chord, not play it note by note. That way the notes die out quickly because u play each individually...

    hold the chord

  • ..........

  • i fully agree with Kapiwolf123, i supose its easier to hold the chord also as the streches while playin nite by note look harder...

  • this way is better smart ass

  • is that why Andy Summers holds chords and doesnt do it lke him? so stfu and dont be an asshole

  • if you watch the music video you are able to see the Andy dose it the way Johnnyg99x shows you so fuck you dumb ass

  • i use my pinkie on the 9th. you can let it ring better

  • thanx..

  • What kinda stratocaster is that? :) Nice job although :P

  • hehe i have it..

  • Nice to see a good guitar player,, i play the song the same way as you... good job. and good lessons for the new ones. i only wish i had youtube, when i was younger hehe would have spared me some time, but then again, some needs to be old schol hehe.. i rate u 5/5

  • He looks like pierre marc bouchard! 5/5

  • Excellent Johnny, very helpful. If you find the time(or even the inclination)I would be greatful to hear your take on an acoustic arrangement for probably my fovourite police song - "So lonely"
