I love 86's more than most cars, and owned a levin for several years, but in a real world (not staged like this vid) situation, a GTR would leave a tuned 86 in the dust.
Even if the skyline is tuned or not. It will still loose to the 86. Power to weight and can corner. r34 is heavy n to much power for that kind of driving.
Basically the AE86 was tuned therefore having a better power to weight ratio coupled with a well balanced and light car won. The R34 GTR, stock I presume in this video, isn't set up right for this event. Not being a big threat to the AE86. Even if the MCR GTR were to race it I believe it would still be a challenge for to pass the 86. Excellent race though.
dang, everyone(but a few) sound very stupid on these comments..... this battle is about cornering speed(thats what da touge is all about). also, the cars acted the ways they did because of how they were made (they are made for different stages). for ex. the AE86 is a light weight FR cornering machine prepped by TRD(owned/driven by tsuchiya keiichi-drift king) with all that TRD stuff in it. on the other hand, the R34 looks 99% all original. plus the car wasn't necessarily made for tight cornering

The skyline driver HAS a reason to be scared! He's driving a beast down that hill...beast because power and beast because weight. The AE86 will take touge's all day, as long as there are not many long straight aways

If you're familiarized with Best Motoring you know that the NSX is always neck and neck with machines like 911T Lambos Ferraris,because the driver counts a lot if he knows what he's doing and normally the NSX is driven by Kurusawa =) when is not it falls quickly to the back.
The Skyline driver seems scared sometimes and the ae 86 is having the time of his life,i think thats the most important...the feel and the agility of the ae86

The reason Taniguchi may have looked scared is because he was in a car famous for its understeer in situations like that, I can tell you right now that if he hadnt braked as much as he did, that r34 would be a heap of scrap planted around those trees, much like the mx5 (Being a lighter car.) Which crashed on the long bend before any of the turns on the very same touge on the very same video :) btw, the setting is unrealistic, but the race itself looks pretty damn serious to me :)

You give the car a little gas and lift up on the clutch. This is how to make the car go. But To shift into the gear you want, you have to push in the clutch every single time and lift on the gas. Up and down perfectly every single time. VERY VERY CONFUSING and MENTALLY DRAINING! This is why an automatic is sooo much better; you don't have to think about everything you have to do, every time you want to shift..it does it AUTOMATICALLY! Better for racing to focus on great driving; NOT shifting.
everybody thinks the ae86 is a "awesome" "great" car. its really not. it has no power stock. you need major modifications to make it have decent power, and its just not worth it in a car that old.
lets see the race go uphill, and see who wins. or have them start side by side. or let tsuchiya drive the skyline. then see the outcome.

i agree and the skyline because it has a high power, so the back of the car is very heavy because of the fuel so even when it drifts, the car slows down. For the AE86 the car is not very fast but small rear so averagely its a very good street car.
this is why Tsuchiya is the master look at the technique!: the shifting, the steering, the braking, the throttle control O_o fucking crazy! haha and this is also why the AE86 is awesome!
First off Initial D is based partially off of Keiichi Tsuchiya [the REAL Drift King] the driver of the AE86 in this video and second this is not on a street, this is a section of a race course, they use it for the touge battles between certain cars, there are a number of videos using this same sprint.

actualy initial d is written by the dude who actuily concored a lot of japains drifting, and downhill comps, in a ae86. he inserted a lot of what he learned into the making of the story.
I believe the writer's name is Shuichi Shigeno. He actually owns a car almost identical to the manga one, except without tofu shop name on side. It's featured in GT3 and GT4.

I have never ever seen a little AE86 beat any Corvette. I used to own a GTS ae86; I know the difference. Yeah; a Corvette is a p.o.s.... but it is my p.o.s.! And it blows flames and is loud and people ask for rides and is fun! My ae86 was never like that.

i agree and the skyline because it has a high power, so the back of the car is very heavy because of the fuel so even when it drifts, the car slows down. For the AE86 the car is not very fast but small rear so averagely its a very good street car.

First off Initial D is based partially off of Keiichi Tsuchiya [the REAL Drift King] the driver of the AE86 in this video and second this is not on a street, this is a section of a race course, they use it for the touge battles between certain cars, there are a number of videos using this same sprint.

I believe the writer's name is Shuichi Shigeno. He actually owns a car almost identical to the manga one, except without tofu shop name on side. It's featured in GT3 and GT4.
