just so people understand the trail is offlimits and is considered trespassing. my main problem is that it causes a nuisence to the locals who have to deal with tourists who just seem to park where they want and wake people up (you have to get there early in the morn to dodge security) and also the trash they leave. if your going to go at least have some respect for the ppl who live there. like take the bus and walk there, and keeping quiet, and pick up your dam trash to
The city built steps & gate to the access road. Agreement with Hope Chapel was found illegal. Hope Chapel has sublease from Brothers of the Sacred Heart. When all lawyers got involved, the city could not meet their liability requirements. The city then tried a property swapuntil attorneys found a paragraph in the deed preventing a trade. Then Mayor Jeremy's term ended & efforts dropped. A trail from the District Park, thru WCC campus & past HSH to the access road -not optimal- is possible.
That is a nice place. I live in Oahu and I wanted to go there too. But I hurt that this trail has been closed. So how could you get there? Is it illegal to go there?
It is amazing but unfortunately I never made it all the way to the top. I realized that I have a fear of heights halfway up the stairs and the fact that it was raining and I kept slipping didn't help : ) The views were amazing, and it was a little tricky to get to it but worth it. In April I'm going to try a second time : ) can't wait
VERY IMPORTANT - when you hike the stairway please wear dark colors. The locals who live around the entrance to the stairway call the cops if they see people on the stairway. It is much harder to see you on the stairs if you are wearing dark colors. Also, turn off the flash on your camera because they have called search and rescue because they thought people were on the stairway signaling for help, when in fact they were only taking pictures.
I did it today. It took 2 hours round trip. That included a couple 5 minute breaks on the way up and about 20 minutes at the top. I consider myself to be more fit than the average person and I do hike quite a bit.
sweeet man! yeah i did it today (sunday) with my buddy. we were at the staircase at 5am. got to the top a little after 6am. then we hung out there for a while waitin for it to clear up but it never did till we got half way down. took us 45 mins to get down. pretty intense but really fun and worth the hike!
What's the song? Love the B-Boy up there. I'd bring my Djembe and wail.
