  • Derailleur is a French word so ultimately you're pretty much all pronouncing it wrong. DAY-RYE-YAR with hard r's.

  • its hard for me to spell derailleur because like most i say derailer aka how it should be said

  • these expert village vids are just so bad i can barely watch.....

  • say it with me dee rail er

  • de rail ear? im pretty sure its De Rail You're....then again you uk and aussie fucks like to reinvent every word into your own garbage.

  • @IngloriousSob you do realise america was mostly populated and discovered by us Europeans...........

Irish roots that live in america

  • HAHAHAHAHA dereaileeurrgh

  • the adjusting bike derailleurs are usually for Shimano's and other good name brands, Other brands wont work because usually the parts are cheap. So just upgrade to a Shimano, for MTB bikes, Shimano Tourney RDTX51 works well with 20 inch to 26 inch mtb bikes. Just take it to a bike shop and have them put on the rear derailleur or they can recommend one for you

  • ok i really need help with my bike, my gear changer is stuck on 7 and wont turn and whem im riding the chain keeps jumping back and Fourth between 6 and 7 someone tell what is wrong with it

  • fuck that shit!

    Show a pro deralleur

  • When my front Derailluer won't gear up, I tighten it but then it won't go to the bottom gear!! I've played with it for an hour today and its driving me nuts. I've tried pulling the wires and the barrel adjusters, I think my bike hates me.

  • All the pros say "de rail your".

    Nice video thanks a lot.

  • What to do if my gear selector is on 7th and my gears are on 6th gear? Should I be able to fix it with the cable?

    Thanks,

  • Thanks, very nice!

  • can't say derailleur, but he knows what he's talking about.

  • i simply call it Gear...

  • DE-RAIL-ER

  • I pronounce it, mech.

  • if its a shimano alivio who gives a f**k

  • Can we vote to remove this video?

  • No he's Amish!...

  • very simpe and to the point instructions; great video!

  • i fuckin hate expert village videos....

  • @Medium0Rare why watch them then?

  • @Medium0Rare then why do you continue to watch them. Is somebody forcing you to? If so, you should call the police...

  • hi I got a gt tempest but every time I do a jump or even ride down a curb the chain falls out , do you know why it does it to me ? how do I fix it

  • OMFG this was so annoying hearing him say derailleur wrong :@

    just wanted to punch him

  • @s38a5t13n "punch him", yeah right! maybe he'd like to punch you loser!

  • I have the same Shimano Alivio M410 Rear Derailleur on my Specialized Rockhopper 29r. It bent along with the hanger. What would everyone here buy? Seems like junk. Any ideas? Love this video man!

  • very informative.

    thank you.

  • thx now my bike is fixed

  • der er ler lol

  • nice beer belly. kinda a slow fella, lol

  • u sound like a robot

  • what a lot of bull. doesn't take into account whether the dropout is bent, the limit screws are set correctly, the cable run is in good condition or tensioned roughly corrrectly in the first place. his words are irrelevent, it's his accent, although rear mech/front mech is easier to say.

  • @rockjock620

You must have a shit bike.

Normal people would automatically assume the bike was in good condition.

  • I own a bike shop - most bikes come to me in shit condition. I have seen it all. Idiot. You Tube is a breeding ground for them.

  • Assuming you do own a bike shop (like we assume everyone is astronaut that looks at space video's ^o) ) then why are you looking at this video? Yes that would be because you are paying you to have the bike mended this video is clearly intended for personal use.

  • Assuming you own a penis, why do you look at porn? Your last sentence is meaningless too. Now be a good boy, go home and get mummy to put you to bed with a glass of warm milk. You'll feel better in the morning.

  • Judging by what you wrote it is not me who is immature is it? And as you made no attempt to answer my questions im pretty sure im right. But if you want to keep posting shit on here to me then you can if it makes you feel better about how you are in real life :L

  • Sorry but I have adults to attend to.

  • If you cant get friends on a youth based website i doubt you will in real life. And im 18 anyway :S

  • Cesur - Shift Guide - Gerade Kettenlinie -

  • Cesur - Shift Guide - Gerade Kettenlinie -

  • A barrel adjuster is a fine tuner (brakes or derailleurs): spinning it clockwise it loosens the cable, counter clockwise it tightens

  • pronounced DERAWLER, not derail-ierierier

  • yes perfect websters di-ra-ler

  • No mate, its pronounced:

    De Rail ear

    Derailleur.

    Simple no?

  • hahaha.. I red what you said before I head him say it, then I laughed so hard when he said it that way

  • People in Illinois sound like Canadians?

  • @madaboutrc De Rail Ear? Maybe where you are from but where the person in the video and I are from it is pronounce De-rAIL-ur

  • @rbandgh3 Okay, if it makes you happy yeah? (:

  • @madaboutrc d00d he's from 'sconsin give him a break

  • @madaboutrc THAT FUCKING DROVE ME INSANE!

  • wtf i didnt learn anything because your mouth wasopen insteasd of showing where the helll we need to fix!!!

  • I want to see the bike not the bloke!

  • the info was good, but geewhizz...he needs a close encounter with a razor.

  • The camera should be on the bike not the bloke!!!! Expert villiage generally misses the point on its camera work.

  • Hey....thanks a lot Ansonchappell, I just wonder why none of these dumbos thought to mention that on all these videos!!!

  • Before pulling cable, remember to turn the barrel adjuster all the way to the right, then back a half turn, in order to maintain adjustibility.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the tips!

  • is sram parts good for downhill?

  • yes

  • haydenroper if he talks to fast you will be going back to see what he said all the time you fool, nice vid mate quick question when i change to 1st on my bike the derailleur jams into my spokes any tips on how to fix the problem or better off buying a new one. Thanks

  • You have limit screws on the rear derail. two screws right next to each other, one should say h and the other l (high and low). you are going to want to screw the low limit screw in about a quarter turn. its a five minute fix if you wanted to take it to a mechanic though

  • you forgot the H and L screws on the rear derailer as well that may need and often do need adjustment as well

  • Im with ejimenez0001, he's good and helped me tons on my bike! Steele, constructive criticism is all good in my book but calling people trolls, common man how old are ya ?!! Does insulting random people on youtube make you feel like a bigger man?

  • This is guy is pretty good at bringing home the idea about adjustments. Straight and to the point. I don't give a care how he looks.

  • He's actually pronouncing it kinda accurately, the 'e' is pronounced, the word is French after all.

But the barrel adjuster will be by the mech, at the shifter, or both.

As far as "adjusting rear derailleur", he should've mentioned checking that the mech/hanger is straight, checking the mech limit screws (ie the chain can't be pushed into the spokes/frame), and the checking the condition of/lubing the cable.

THEN muck with the cable tension.

Or take it to a decent bike shop.

  • derailyer?

  • what a boring video!

  • "for the rear derailleur it's gonna be on the back" wrong answer... mine is by the breaks..!

  • sram makes it easier for someone to adjust while riding which is why they are at the breaks, i always adjust them a little while riding you are true but for sram not shimano

  • what? I have shimano too :S and i adjust both derailleurs by the "handlebars"

  • Apparently he has a different way of pronouncing derailleur. Yes, he sounds like a fool.

  • SHAVE

  • lol i saw your comment before i saw him, i was like.... shave what? OH SHIT, SHAVE!

  • dood thanks for putting this video up you helped me fix my bike.

  • ok but i find him hard to understand. i found a better explanation on user 'SFMTNS'. Their videos are clearer i think

  • i got the same derailleur

  • Me too, but Deore is actually the minimum, they say, and Acera is still between those, I think. But I'm saving for a real and decent bike.

  • Get saint or sram 9

  • best to worst (shimano)

    XTR

    Saint

    Deore XT

    Deore LX

    Deore

    Alivio

    Acera

    Altus

    Tourney

  • i have the deore lx... and its AWESOME

  • what do i do if it has a hard time

    going up and down

  • uhhhh well do what he says at 1:38

  • Thank you for this video.

  • what kind is that

  • Shimano Allivio..

  • oh yeah! lol thanks

  • haha. No problem. :D

  • I can't get my chain to got up to the bigger sprockets at all. It is at the smallest sprocket and I can't get it to go up. It's not hard, just can't do it.

  • Sounds like if you have tried the cable adjusting your derailleur is seized try cleaning it up and lubing it.

  • Nice. But at first he called the cogs chainrings XD

  • ty very helpful 5 stars

  • haha '' the derailleeeeuuuuur ''

  • in fact, the other little screw on the derailleur other than the low and the high screws. Adjusting this screw affects the distance between the upper jockey wheel on the derailleur, and the cog. Set this to allow adequate space for the chain to pass thru. Usually, you don't have to mess with this...

  • he never even mentioned the high and low adjustor screws, and that other screw that nobody seems to know wot its for..

  • I'm from Canada, all I can say is thanks dude this vid helped alot. I haven't fix any bikes before, after watching this vid I properly fixed mine in like 5 minutes. The gears work now, a derailleur used to be a huge mystery for me, and I know a good amount about science. So thanks. Also as towards your pronunciation, who cares.

Every country has an accent of some sort, which is the correct one?I don't think there is.

  • Being a Scot, it's not often that I stick up for the English (Chhhh, pah!) but NextOblivion's comment is a bit rich coming from a country that make "pot of tea" sound like "para te". by the way we Scot's can pronounce "ass" perfectly well but when describing Americans we prefer to use the term "dickhead".

  • Well we certainly do have our share of "dickheads" here, but with that comment we can at least rest assured that other countries are producing their share.

  • True but the us produces them in abundance. who were you referring to?

  • nice vid man, helped alot!

  • wow.....that is sort of sad that you are arguing about how he pronounces words.......

  • stfu get over how he said it who care u alll no what it means

  • Great video dude clearly explained just what us people needed to know

as for the piss takers go to the comedy cafe & see just how funny u really are NOT!

At least has done something good all you are doing is chatting rubbish waste of space

  • Derailleur in English. I live in England. That's how we say it and that's how it's spelt. You've butchered it in American English.

  • Exactly. Take it change it claim it as their own. Seems to be their policy.

  • It's pronounced de-rail-ler! (or de-rai-yeur if you're french) give the guy some slack anyway, it's a french word. French is to Ahrd!(mispelling was intentional)

  • What ya'll have thar is a reer dee-ray-lee-eur.

  • See at 1-42 I think, KingofBanks. Looks like a single central screw thingy has taken the place of upper and lower limit screws on the modern de-raill-i-eur?

(If not, Mike would have mentioned it, I'm sure. I've got a lot of confidence in Mike. He showed me how to change pedals earlier. Fine young man, he is.)

  • haha, i just bought the same derailleur!!! alvio...

  • the french version is derailleur

    The english version is derailer

    both pronounced the same way

  • It's a French word, so he's wrong in his pronunciation. What about upper and lower limit screws, don't they have a place in this video?

  • de-rai-leu

  • No he says it the proper way. I admit it though I say it the wrong way.

  • Not according to webster.

  • Webster was an asshole

  • "De rail er"
