I just didn't understand the comments made here. She is a brilliant singer, end of story. What are the others talking about? I'm reading Simone de Beauvoir at the moment (Le Deuxiéme sexe) - sadly, she is still spot on (well, she has some outdated material but the majority of her perceptions are correct). Here we are, 21st century and people can't just listen to a musical piece without making sport of the ARTIST.
comme le Minkowski a mis du poids!! trops de bon repas français ;-)) ooh la la.... mais il et formidable. j'adore la musique baroque française.
wow, how mr. Minkowski has gained weight since i met him in Baune 1997. too many good french meals ;-) but he is brilliant in any case. i adore the french baroque music, all of it. Sainte-Colombe ,Lambert,Lully, Delalande,Marais,Charpentier,Mondonville,Rameau,Couperin,Campra,Clérambault and many more. it is Heaven now.
Nearness, I have bought and watched the full DVD recently, but there was no interviews with Marc Minkowski or Laurent Pelly, was this broadcast on French TV?
I love it as well. I saw it several times, never tired of it- Delunsch is a wonderful Folie, the set is just clever, the way singer and orchestra interact is pure fun! Loved it!
The mind boggles as to why some record companies are going after You Tube on a copyright basis. Do they not realize that many of us will buy the whole DVD after seeing the product sampled here?
Never heard of this work and think it quite spectacular.
I did indeed buy the whole thing and absolutely love it. Without this video, there is no way I would have purchased the thing. Consumers of opera DVD's are not a huge market! That's why music companies should welcome You Tube.
True. The main thing is to promote the use of YouTube by makers of opera DVDs. Face it, opera lovers are not numerous. Opera is a delicate thing constanty verging on extinction. One way to support opera: spread its power via video excerpts such as this. The Viacom suit is bad for opera. After seeing Del Monaco's Pagliacci on VAI, I bought a DVD and then two others, sent to a grateful father and a friend.
I have to agree, men in dresses is strange. I am pretty conservative when it comes to music and I do not like things modernized, it ruins the effect that the original composer tries to give.
On the contrary, I have the whole 'Plateé' on disc and it's a REAL pleasure to watch it. The 'modernization' is tastefully done and very consequent. It's 21st century answer to what was 'modern' (extremely modern) in the 18th century. It is the same idea aimed at entertaining the public, and they do a terrific job at it (as you would expect from French and Italian backstabbing but, oh, so talented cultural elité).:o)
Do you know the story crackwhore69? It's Madness 1st aria, and this set was just amazing ! It's not a serious opera, even it's really good and clever music...it's a parody. Men in dresses are great !
In the aria La Folie sing sad text on funny music and after will reverse (funny text on sad music) The reversal is also expressed by the suvants of the madness men(people) dressed in women
This is GREAT, I've seen it real in Garnier in Paris, Really a great production, Great opera of course and spendid Mireille Delunsch!!!! Brava, Tu est la meilleure Folie Mireille!

...ecoutez bien vers 3:20 ....si, si c'est bien une fausse note !!!
pas grave, Mireille capte tellement l'attention!!
..et vous avez remarqué, c'est fou ce "faux-air" de Jane Birkin vers 5:20 ...
Bravo Mme Delunsch

If you know anything about the Italian da capo arias, you would find this absolutely hilarious. What a great sense of humor. Rameau is a true genius.

I too, detest modernization of opera productions, but somehow everytime I've seen a French production like this one for example, it seems to work.

I did not even know Rameau existed. You Tube has the potential to open composers that are not incredibly well known to a wide public.

Rameau is The Man.
Get anything by him and it will kick ass.

There are so many great persons in opera! Let's hope we will see more just as good as this video.
