She said to use a wrench to tighten the square bar of the brace box between the joists. The instructions for the brace says in bold "BY HAND ONLY" and "DO NOT INSTALL USING A WRENCH" but to only use the wrench if needed to square the flat side of the brace so a flat side is down.
Uh-hut-hum! Uh, where is your squeeze connector for the Romex? You can't pull wires through the k/o hole in the electrical box, w/o a connector to prevent the wires from chaffing. This could start a fire, and is a code violation. You guys know better!
@jonahmusto This video was created by the Home Depot. They felt it was appropriate to use this video to market Hampton Bay ceiling fans, as it is their house brand.
If you want more traffic to your site,You can't do it alone, add an affiliate system and let others promote your site,I would advise the GAS aff system,Because unless you have very good knowledge of programming languages, GAS is the only one with a simple installation,Get the program at GAS-AFFILIATEdotCOM.
This is a good instructional with one exception, running a cable through a box knock out without using a cable connector to secure it is violation of the National Electrical Code. It is also a fire hazard.
I'm truly surprised that Home Depot uploaded this video with such a glaring error.
Cool, I installed my first fan today and feel like I did it correctly except not using the green ground screw on a u-joint. They didn't show it in this video and that's how I grounded my fan so I guess I'm good. Now my only question is when on high it wobbles pretty bad? and suggestions? the balance kit doesn't seem to make a huge difference.
This would be great if there was some more detail on the wiring part. I have a brand new build house with a ceiling fan prewire. I have Black, White, Red and a bare copper wire coming from my ceiling but I have Black, White, Blue and Green coming from my ceiling fan. I figure it goes Black to Black, White to White, but I don't feel comfortable connecting the Blue to Red and I have no idea what to do with the green wires or the bare copper wire.
@phillingroovy No I commented on a video without watching it. [end sarcasm]. Thank you for the advice. I watched the video several times, found other videos focusing on the wiring more and finally felt confident enough to connect my Blue wire to the Red wire. I just didn't understand why the house wouldn't be wired with the same color wiring. I connected both of my ceiling fans and they're working perfectly.
about 4 years ago home depot installed my ceiling fan it shakes like hell so yes this womans claim at 1:09 is correct sont asume it was intalled caorrect first time even by there proffestionals id fix it but i dont got a good ladder :>\
She also does not bond (or connect in lehmans terms) the ground wire to the metal box as required by the National Electrical Code.
If Home Depot is going to take the liability in posting these types of instructional videos then they need to follow all code requirements when providing people with information.
At 1:52 she inserts the wiring into the metal box without installing a metal or plastic romex connector to protect the cabling. This is a National Electrical Code violation. If you do not install a protective bushing chances are the wires will eventually wear through from contact with the jagged knock out and you will either keep tripping the breaker or in worse cases start a fire.
This was informative, well planned, even gave energy saving issues. But there was still things wrong in this video. If You people watching this video to learn how to do these things, your going to end up getting hurt, hurting someone else or burning down your home. every 38 seconds our nation has an electrical fire, and 53% of them are cause from home owners doing this type of half informed unsure, unexperienced repair, remodel, addition work. watch my reply videos !!
She installed the new fan correctly, but look at 00:38 when she removes the canopy from the old fan. The previous installer left the wire nuts outside of the electrical box. WRONG. Great way to burn your house down.
I loved the pictures for every step and it was easy to follow along. I like a lot of detail with pics and only relevant information no needless chatter, this video has it all. Bravo good job!!
Thank god we have stronger regulations in Australia. If your caught doing electrical work without a licence your arse is royaly fucked. This is to save lives. What if that circuit is not RCD protected, the wire coming into the electrical box rubs on the sharp edge and comes in contact with it. It runs down the frame of the fan and kills someone when they go to tug on the metal pull chain. Stranger things have happened.
I am trying to replace a light fixture in my kitchen with a ceiling fan, but I'm not sure how to do it. I'm fairly certain that a fan was there at one point in time (probably the 70's) because all the wires are there and the electrical box seems made for a fan, but the wires that are there now are all brown, white and black. My fan wires match the ones in this video (green, blue, red, and black) but I don't know which ones to connect where, any ideas?
Wrong ottoman540, please don't put tape on there, it is unnecessary and a big mess when I come to fix your loose connections in 6 months. Or maybe the fire dept will beat me to it. Just twist your wires correctly before you put the wire nuts on. And you also need a bushing in that knock-out of the fan box. Although she explained better than most.
Gaaaah electronics and wiring as soon as you started re-connecting everything my head started hurting.
I just wish I knew if it's too late to simply remedy my current fan, the cone part inside the face plate attached to the ceiling is cracked and when I turn the fan on it isnt just unbalanced it actually looks and sounds like its going to go flying off.
Ummmm------- more like 30 min,-- to an hour for me!. I wish the job was that fast! Good video, but one small thing missing,----- Before you stuff the wires up in the electrical box,---- It's best to wrap the connected wires, and nuts at the end with electrical tape,---so you can avoid having them come un-done a few years later, and go to trun the fan on, and possibly sparking,- from the wires touching the mounting bracket!!. --------I know, cause it has happened to me. It's an honest mistake.
Those quick connect blades are crap. The will sag over time if you don't have the fan on most of the time. So say in winter if you don't use the fan at all the blades will begin to droop and bend. But they don't tell you anything about that.
Nice. But this video should had focused in promoting the Huntington III's (fan shown)easy/quick connect features which makes installation a 5-minute breeze for the novice homeowner.
