And YES i totally agree with previous comments - British bands did own the 80s and 90s. I was in my early 20s and down in New Zealand/Australia we were just in love with bands like Dire Straits, ELO, Committments, Pet shop boys, Fleetwood Mac (we''ll they sort of british lol) etc etc. Would also like to put in a plug for some of the bands from 'Down Under' who also played their part in that era - INXS, Crowded House, men at Work, Cold Chisel etc - They were Good days !!!

But I am at heart a fan of Soul/R&B, and England failed MISERABLY in these genre. Only a handful of Brit artists actually incorporated soulfulness successfully into their music during this period, among them Wham! (with their retro-Motown bounce) and Scritti Politti (with slick club tracks).
