Around 9 millions years ago, through random genetic mutation, one ape speciated from a specific genus and went on to become a gorilla, just as it happened with chimpanzees approx. 6 million years ago. My compassionate wish is that everyone would pay more attention in their biology and science classes. The "98%" is a science based fact and is used, in the case of the title of the video, to cause the viewer to have a sense of familiarity with these endangered creatures. This video goes a long way to educate and inform the public about the life of gorillas. Remember the ultimate hope of these biologists is for humans to realize they are only a very small part of a very big picture.
