Dr. Finkelstein is a moral and intellectual giant, and he doesn't need Chomsky to even be mentioned in same sentence with him. He can stuff Chomsky, Bosnian-Butchers-Milošević-&-Karađić lover and apologetic, and all his so called "left" chomskyans in his back pocket.
hes so dumb der not liberals in the classical sense there neo liberals chomsky is on the real left but that it has nothing to do with left or right when it cmes to foreighn policy if u look at ron pauls oppinions it pretty much the same as chomsky's when it comes to foreighn plicy
Keep in mind the Zionist adgenda...to aquire in as many means possible all the land in Israel with as few Arabs as possible. Land grabs, wars, blockades, IDF, walls, immigration of Jews, propaganda, media manipulations, lies, misinformation, international manipulations, deceits,....all work towards this goal. Investigate the details sure, but the goal has always been the same. In the future what will be the goal? The entire Middle East. And then what? The world. They want to control everything.
Although all the political parties in the UK are centre right with a few individual deviations, the questioner was incorrect when he stated that the "liberal left" in Britain want to "manage" the occupation in Iraq. Some of the most ardent opposition to the Iraq war came from the Liberal Democrats and for anyone who is interested Edward Davey's speech at the LD Conference 2009 made clear the "liberal left" position with regard to foregin policy.
Hamas has recognized Israel, not the same as recognizing the legitimacy of Israel. Native american Indians recognize the USA but are you dumb enough to think they recognize the legitimacy of USA. Two completely different things. You give me an example of people that recognized the legitimacy an occupying force. There isnt one. Zionist propoganda and excuse. they always put the aspect of recognition in wrong context. The fact of the matter is most the world agree to recognize israel pre 67borders
@Lepiratepoulpe what the fuck are you talking about. Cause i dont believe what is expressed in our western papers iam hate droid. Read an israeli newspaper like Hareetz you war mongering robot. Only people i hate are idiot that learn from media outlets. open many of historic scholarly work done by benny morris avi shlaim and the likes.inform yourself before u vomit that shit out of your mouth
You were talking about lynching and killing Norm, my hommie.
You are a hate programmed drone stuck in the zionist mental prison. Yet i seriously doubt your aptitudes of acting by yourself... Typical psycho-pathology of the zionist criminal.
@Lepiratepoulpe lol listen to video closer. wasnt talking about norman, he has balls to stand up and tell the truth about occupation. I fully support the finkelsteins, shlaim's, gideon levy's of this world.was talking about the fucktard in the audience

These are all left wing socialist anarchist dreamers....
The fact finklstein decided to focus his lofe at the isralei conflict is so absurd in of itself...
What does that tell you of him?He is crazy as is chmsky his pal..Should have continued studying linguistics and not gone into politics...Got ballzy i guess.
"The fact finklstein decided to focus his lofe at the isralei conflict is so absurd in of itself.."

But of all the conflicts and all that is going on in the world why would you choose to criticize the jewish nation?
I'm not saying jews shouldn't criticize Israel but how is it that one of the most ferocious enemies of Israel on the public arena is a jewish person who is a victim of the hate towards jews...
Him and chomsky...they are all children of the student revolts...I can't wait till this generation passes from the world...what a horrible breed of people.
"But of all the conflicts and all that is going on in the world why would you choose to criticize the jewish nation?"
Because that conflict has been one of the most important in the world for over 60 years now, destabilizing the entire middle-east. And when the biggest terrorist attack on US soil was done because of US imperialsm in the world and Israeli occupation of Palestine, I'd say it's pretty logical why the man has chosen thisone..

Thats ridicules.
Every knowledgeable person knows the us was attacked because of oil money of the arab countries backed up by russia and its old ties with revolutionaries in the middle eastback from the soviet union era.
US was attacked by forces that want to control the area instead of it.Like Russia and china.
Sometimes directly sometimes indirectly
AS i said i hope this generation of flower boys and dreamers passes form this world soon.

If anyone truly thinks the world is better off with Chinese and Russian imperialism He is a complete fool.
Yes the middle east is the center of a conflict of super powers but any free person knows he is better of on the side of the usa considering the other alternatives are Russian,Islamic oil moguls(in both cases dictatorships) or the Chinese communist party.
Every knowledgeable person knows the us was attacked because of oil money of the arab countries backed up by russia and its old ties with revolutionaries in the middle eastback"
Sigh, let me get this right; Bin Laden was financed by the CIA to fight the soviets in Afghanistan, and now Russia is backing him to terrorize the US?! You sir, are fucking dumb!
I advise you to look for Bin Laden's video on the 9/11 attacks here on youtube, then contact me again please.

bin laden?
Lol what you think bin laden is the only terrorist...
All i was saying is that a lof of the soviet unions money was invested in the establishment of revolutionary groups around the middle east just like it happend in europe and asia.
Russia and oil making arab countries have common interests.
"Russia and oil making arab countries have common interests"
The entire world has common interests smartass. Energy is one of the most important pieces of a civilization, every nation needs it! So ofcourse there will be deals and investments, but to claim Russia is 'friends' with all the arab countries is just silly. The US and Britain practically own the middle east.
Do you even remember all the things you say dzhibrish? Because it certainly looks like you don't, example;
"Russia and oil making arab countries have common interests"
"Instability in the middle east is Russia's objective"
And all said in the same week, how much you smoking there?
Has Russia influence in certain parties in the ME? Yes ofcourse it has, just like China, Europe and the US have. But let us say the power of the US is just a little little bit stronger than all the rest..
usa and britian practically own the middleast so let me guess they own all 22 arab countries dude all they do is occupy to get what they want and thanks to some arabs in saudia arabia and other pro american arab countries they are allowed to come in
As a Palestinian, it is truly an honor listening to Dr. Norman Finkelstein in person. He is a genuine human being & a real jew.
Unfortunately, the jewish community around the world has not shown any leadership when it comes to standing up for morals and principals and human rights. As a people who suffered greatly under the Germans, one would think that most jews would be against what Apartheid Israel is doing, however unfortunately that is not the case. Finkelstein represents the minority.
But they won't because they do not want peace. The various plans that were rejected by the Palestinians were rejected because they were unfair.
All in all, unless the Zionists kill every last Palestinian the Jewish state will eventually disappear due to pure demographics. You won't be able to convince the Jewish population to stop assimilation. Especially in the US, Jews intermarry/etc. Israeli Arabs have higher birthrates. As do Palestinians. In the end, you won't kill off the Palestinians.
There is no morality in this conflict. It's one powerful army against a much weaker militia.
It would logically make sense that the weaker militia would suffer more casualties. Just look at the various Lebanon wars. Israel killed 1000 civilians in the last one. All the human rights' groups agreed that Israel used indiscriminate force.
This is how they fight - with no concern for human life. That's how you create terrorists. Israel is the one with all the power. They could end the conflict now.
Anyone can look at the international record and see who kills more civilians. It's Israel that kills 10 times the number of children. 5 times the number of civilians.
You can't expect any population to react non-violently to a violent military occupation. This is not an excuse of suicide bombing but there should be no surprise there.
Palestinians should rise up and fight every Israeli off their land. They have no right to be there. The only reason Israel gets away with these crimes is money.
The Israeli High Court ruled that "Judea and Samaria" [West Bank] and the Gaza area are lands seized during warfare, and are not part of Israel. International law says that it is illegal to acquire territory by war. It is also illegal to transport a population to occupied territory.
It's obvious that Israel is colonizing the rest of historic Palestine. Only the most rabid Zionist will throw the law out the window.
All this garbage about terrorism is becoming less and less convincing.
Under international law a country/people have the right to fight their invaders. Every Israeli soldier in the Occupied Territories should be fought. Every Palestinian has the right to resist.
Israel kills 10 times as many children and 4.5 times as many civilians. Israel demolishes Palestinian homes, not the other way around. Israel imposes curfews on Palestinians, not the other way around.
Etc. etc. etc.
The fact of the matter is Israel is occupying Palestine. Not the other way around.

Occupying what?there is no palestinian state.
they were offered a state and they refused back in 1984.There are curfews because there are constant terrorist threats.Let me remind you that before the first intifada there was no curfew.Any aggression has always started by Palestinians with the first aggression being their attack on the newly formed Israeli state in 1948.Since than they have done all they could to destory Israel and nothing to make their own country.
First of all...Syria entered Lebanon in 1976 with Israeli and U.S. support to kill Palestinians in the first place. The First and Second Intifadas were a direct result to continued Israeli atrocities in the Occupied Territories. Israel continues to break international law and along with the U.S. has blocked a two-state settlement that there is an international consensus on, including all Arab states.
The Palestinians in Jordan make a state within a state.
(1970)-Black September- The Jordanian army kills between 7,000-25,000 Palestinians in 11 days according to foreign journalists (Colonial Effects By Joseph Andoni Massad)
How Israel fights terror
(2000-2008) Palestinians declare a bloody intifada (uprising) against Israel, and under 5,000 Palestinians are killed in Eight Years of fighting!
He started to preach in mosques to promote his message of peace and as a result became a target of many Islamic fanatics who threatened his life. Hamid then migrated to the West where he has lectured at UCLA, Stanford University, University of Miami and Georgetown University against Jihadism and Islamic Fundamentalis
what would you teach your children if you belived that someone took your land,as a matter of fact a lot of the occupiers teach their children to hate those they just occupied,we for example are being told that islam is so dangerous while we occupied iraq,a moslem arabic country ,facts not prpoganda like yours ,gets the pluses while you might fet minuses.was that clear,if not but a minus and stay blinded to the facts and try presuading people based on lies.

Nobody told them to go out in 1948.
All Jewish lands were bought legally.
Palestine was never founded because the Palestinians themselves didn't agree.
Jews immigrated to Palestine when it was controlled by the British mandate and bought lands legally.there is no occupations cause there was never a state of Palestine mostly cause of the self defeating actions of the Palestinians.
Just like it was with Jordan and Egypt Israel will pound the Palestinians until they want peace.
That's not true. Shlomo Ben Ami said most of the land was not bought, it was taken by force. Most Israeli historians acknowledge that. However, Ben Ami basically says Israelis born today or this new generation are not responsible for what happened and won't budge and wants peace.

There were Jews living here for 3k years and in the late 19th century they started immigrating and moving to Israeljust like any other people would immigrate to any other locationAt that time it was all under the ottomans empire rule than the British took this entire are under their control.Lands were bought with money they were not taken illegally.
There was never a palestinian state where Israel is however there is one near Israel called Jordan and 70% of its population is palestinian
sorry but you got that in reverse , look how the israeli kids are tought to hate others..... as for palistinians , if you live one day the way they do.....it doesnt really take a text book to teach them to hate ZIONISM and Israel....it just happens.
and what you said werent facts , if they are , do you mind telling me which arabic school text book teaches hating jews ? because I can point out which israeli school text books teach how to hate and be racist .. im waiting for YOUR reply
@digitalvirus335 yea, hamas' tv, hizbullah tv, egypt erasing israel from it's maps, saudi tv broadcasting and praising a little kid that says that the jews are pigs.
The Zionist terrorists erased 750,000 Palestinians from the 78% land of Palestine that they now call Israel, the descendants of those ethnically cleansed (in Israeli words; "transferred") refugees still live in refugee camps in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and other parts of the world and Israel denies their right of return while it builds Jew-only homes and roads for Russian and other foreign Jews, and you are telling me that the problem is with a map on Hizbullah TV???
@optimistsRUS no no, they erased 70 million palestinians in 632% of the land of "palestine" and just because they were bored, slaughtered 200 million muslims silently so noone will know.
The best example would be the greatest book of the arabs : The Koran. The 2 terms, arab and muslim, are mostly congruent. And that's pretty much the only book they read. If they can read, that is.
And the songs they sing, they tell the children to hate jews.
And the TV programs and films they make, they tell the world, how much they hate the jews.
Arabs = muslim = antisemite. That never goes for 100% of them, but certainly for 99%.
@fandanstan You are blah. As much as you'll find the most christians in Africa and the most atheists in Asia, it's not what we're talking about. What counts is the origin. It's the Arabs who spread the terror (aka Islam) around the world and not Indonesians.
You can put this "liar" up your foulmouthed anus, you pissfuck cumsucker canadian leftwing bullshit artist.

Hamid participated in a symposium published by National Review Online, where he expressed his view on the Sudanese teddy bear blasphemy case.
Hamid recounts his transformation into a Jihadist in a piece published by the Hudson Institute, entitled The Development of a Jihadist's Mind.
You completely get all of your facts wrong. Look at organizations like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, even Israeli human rights groups say that IDF forces have WILLFULLY killed Palestinian civilians, it's a fact, you can't dispute it! Even though Hamas and Hezbollah don't necessarily think Israel should exist, they OFFICIALLY support a two-state settlement, like the rest of the world, if and when Israel commits itself to withdrawing from the occupied territories.
haha the ARABS block the two-state solution and offers to return all occupied territories
Ehud Barak offered Arafat an eventual 91% (after many years - see section on territory) of the West Bank, and all of the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian control over Eastern Jerusalem as the capital of the new Palestinian state(ALL OCCUPIED TERRITORIES); in addition, all refugees could apply for compensation of property from an international fund to which Israel would contribute along with other countries.
You're completely wrong. Israel along with the U.S. has continued to block an international consensus on a two-state settlement. Under international law the Palestinians are rightfully entitled to ALL of the occupied territories and the WHOLE city of Jerusalem. The Palestinians even offered to give Israel up to 50% in the West Bank and a significant amount in Gaza. It was Barak who called OFF negotiations at Taba when a settlement was close to being reached.
"haha the ARABS block the two-state solution and offers to return all occupied territories."
That is your quote...so Israel has offered to return ALL of the occupied territories to Palestine. That is completely false. Nothing even comes close. Why would the Palestinians have not taken that offer, that is exactly what they want and are entitled to.
muslims that support Israel, even with fatwa death warrants put out on some

Israel fights terror, kills 5x less civillians then Syria
5,000 Total Palestinains killed since 2000 , the bloodiest 8 years of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. caused by intifada (bloody war declared by Palestinians)[SELF-IMPOSED]
25,000 Arabs killed by Syria 1980-1981 (Hama Massacre) fighting terrorists
400,000 in 5 years in Darfur, countless gangraped (ahmadinejad supports Al-Bashir)
Funny, why the arbitrary start date for Israeli crimes? If you started Saddam's time in 2000 I doubt you could come up with 100,000 killed. Israeli crimes go back at least 80 years. That's a lot of dead bodies, kid.
It is silly to think Israel is a puppet of the USA.
Israel calls the shots on US foreign policy and has its hand deep into the US taxpayers pockets. Those are the actions of the puppet master, not the puppet
Despite all the crimes against humanity that Israel commits with impunity, as a client-state of the U.S., I don't really think Israel does call the shots. Recently, Bush ruled out U.S. support for am Israeli strike on Iran. The Israelis can't go ahead without it.
Israel is a strategic military asset for the U.S. to intimidate the Arab states.
And not all Jews are Zionists with a fanatical, fundamentalist view of their right to Palestinian land or indeed, to attack Lebanon on any pretext
How do you explain the fact that every major US presidential contender must parade before AIPAC and pledge loyalty to Israel? How about the Office of Special Plans, A Clean Break? How about the US media all running Israeli criticism of the US Intell agency the day after the NIE came out? The constant passage by nearly unanimous votes of the pro Israeli resolutions that AIPAC pushes through the House and Senate? The fact that over 1/3 of all US foreign aid goes to Israel, year after year?
If you want Israel to be removed then you must also pack up your home and leave American because it is Native Indian Land. I love the hypocrites in America talk about Israel controlling land that is not theirs when the DO exactly the same thing. Shove that logical apple down the colonialist Chmosky's throat.
Because he lives in the USA. This is Native land - the Indians owned this land. They were forceably killed and removed from this land. Chomsky lives in the USA - he never mentions this or talks about this. He is a hypocrite along with all the others who live in America but condemn Israel.
I've seen several references by Chomsky to the genocide of the indigenous population of the USA.
Israel is gross violator of human rights. All the human rights agencies have documented its atrocities.
It destroyed Lebanon two years ago. It routinely tortures Palestinians including minors and holds thousands of political prisoners in its jails with no legal process. It is conducting a genocidal siege of Gaza and blockading humanitarian supplies to the West Bank. The Occupation is illegal.
If Chomsky really believed in his so called morals - he would pack up and leave the United States and not live on land that was STOLEN from the native Indians.
C'mon. I live in Australia. Our Prime Minister apologised to our indigenous people for the crimes against them and some steps have been taken to compensate them.
Israel's colonisation is ongoing.Look at a map of the partition plan giving most of the land to the Jewish minority, then look at a map of Israel today and the O.P.'s. The Palestinians have less than 50% of the West Bank and that is divided into ghettoes. Gaza is under a genocidal siege. 460,000 illegal settlers in the West Bank.

A former member of al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, an Islamic extremist and terrorist organization then led by Ayman al Zawahiri, Tawfik Hamid splintered off and began advocating a peaceful understanding of Islam that is compatible with universal human rights and intellectual freedom.
He lives on land that was taken by force and killing. This is undeniable - it is a statement of fact. Then he blames others for the same thing, YET he himself benefits for the killing of native Americans. And if you live in the USA so do you. These are just facts.

For him a holocaust survivor is only some one who was in the ghetto, contraction camp or labor camp. My parents were survivor of the holocaust none of them was in a ghetto or labor camp, my father was hidden in a barn for 9 months lost his first wife and two sons. My mom was in Siberia was not able to go back to her family that was murdered by the SS.
I believe that both of my parents were holocaust survivor the lost all their family and were not able to go back they were hunted.
Chomsky and Finkelstein have radically different approaches. Chomsky is an authentic anarchist, the lesser their are rules and regulations are imposed on human beings the better; while Finkelstein tends to have fascist sympathies, especially when he expresses his admiration for Hezbollah.
Prof. Finkelstein's parents are holocaust survivors. In light of this, your assertion that he has fascist sympathies without providing evidence/arguments earns you the right to inhabit the dungeons of shame for the rest of your life.
Nasrallah is to Lebanon what Musssolini was to Italy, Franco to Spain, Hitler to Gemany...When Finkelstein openly advocates his support for Hezbollah saying among other things that what he admires in them is their order and discipline, he does have fascist sympathies. It's as simple as that. Nothing to do with his parents being Holocaust survivors.
And by the way, can someone tell me how Finkelstein's parents mangaged to survive the holocaust? Where they in a camp? Which one?
Prof. Finkelstein NEVER said he admired Nasrallah, the leader. He said 2 things. 1) The lebanese have the right to choose their leaders, and they exercised it. 2) There is more honor in resisting foreign occupiers than accepting them after they destroyed your country.
He supports Hezbollah in their defense against Israeli attacks, not in their political/religious extremism.
Before giving out your judgement, at least make sure your facts are straight.
Ok, too bad that the eccentric fool is praised by many of the specialists on Israeli-Palestinian/Middle-East issues: Raul Hilberg, Avi Shlaim, Noam Chomsky.
But maybe you're right. You are the true intellectual. And the rest of the world is just stupid.
The list of the specialists on the Middle East contains MUCH MORE people who oppose Finkelstein than people who support him. That's a fact. I am just an ordinary person, going along with the crowd.
...Because I believe that the vast majority of Israelis and Palestinians desire a normal and peaceful life for them and their children, far away from those who advocate violence. They are fed up with extremists on all sides, hijacking their lives.
The conflict is not a conflict between Israeli and Palestinians, nor is it between Muslims and Jews. The real conflict is between the moderates on both sides demanding a place free from violence, bloodshed and fear, and violent extremism.
...Finkelstein is animated by hatred that comes from deep inside himself. Most of his writings, including his doctorate thesis, are attacks on what other people wrote. For sure the young Daniel Goldhagen with his very realisitc book "Hitler's Willing Executioners did not deserve the vitriolic attacks of Finkelstein. Nor does Dershowitz's book "The case for Israel". Dershowitz is a real moderate dreaming of an independent and viable Palestinian state living in peace with it's neighbor Israel.
Honestly, I think you haven't read anything by Finkelstein, or Dershowitz, or Goldhagen, even. You just go with what other people say without having your own idea. As you wrote earlier, "you go with the crowd". Like sheep. If everybody says Finkelstein is evil, you repeat "Finkelstein is evil". Kudos.
Last thing. Opinions should be "well-informed". Before you have your own, make sure to have the info. Read, watch, listen. Then think. Don't borrow other people's opinions. Don't bleat.
You think, you think...Well let me tell you I read Daniel Goldahagen's book for the first time ten years ago, was very positively impressed, and reread it from time time to time. In fact it's on my desk right now as I am writing. And Dershowitz's "The case for Israel", I read it only two weeks ago. It is still fresh in my mind. I did not read Finkelstein. It's not in the libraries in Japan anyway. YOU are the sheep. In fact you are pathetic ignorant full of predjudices! And arrogant too!
If you have not read Finkelstein, then your assessment of him is without merit. I have never read Goldahagen, and I have no oppinion about him. I only hope that you read more carefully than you write.
Yes yes! Why don't you liberate yourself from the internet and go by or rent a book, for God's sake! Get some education, you idiot! You talk about the Isnternational court of Justice, fresh water reservs, settlements....and you do not know no shit! Get lost!!!
"...and you do not know no shit!"??? Aren't Jews supposed to be more intelligent then Goyim? And you also wrote that one should "...go 'by' or rent a book"? Rent a book? Who the fuck rents a book? And in what country did you learn to read and write?

His mother was from Warsaw, Poland, and survived the Warsaw Ghetto and the Majdanek concentration camp and two slave labor camps. Her first husband had died in the war. She was alone, none of her parents and siblings had survived. His father was a survivor of both the Warsaw Ghetto and the Auschwitz concentration camp. He had participated in the death march and survived. Dr. Finelstien does say thing that are right but many times he is digging his own grave using strong words as lie and fraud.
No. He is just using the words that in his view describe best what he sees.
His words are harsh, sure, but what is happening in Palestine is an abomination.
So Finkelstein uses harsh words to describe an abomination.
Instead of "digging his own grave", it seems more like "honesty" to me.
But it is useless to discuss this stuff with people who refuse to read United Nation resolutions or International Court of Justice reports. And its all available on the internet too.

Excellent comment from the guy!
I believe that the real conflict in the Middle East is between the extremists of both camps on one side, and the moderates, (the "liberal left") of both camps on the other.
And Mr Finkelstein's positions belong to the former while Mr Chomsky's belong to the latter.
however: i would like everyone to keep in mind that prof. chomsky said that he was engaged in any zionist fractions that lean towards left. in other words: prof. chomsky could have some tendency toward zionism.
in any case: finkelstein rules! no question about it.
In his youth, Chomsky was a Zionist Youth leader that was opposed to the formation of a Jewish state on philosophical grounds (For the same reason there shouldn't be a Christian state, or a Muslim state, etc.). It is all very confusing. Check out his interview on "Conversations with History."
thanks for the reply. that's right. my comment was actually a blend from he impression i got from tarik ali's clash of civilizations (though the author in this book doesn't say anything about chomsky; but he talks about a similar figure's perceptions) and robert f. barsky's noam chomsky: a life of dissent.
in a letter that chomsky sent to barsky, a portion of which constitutes the epigraf of the section-1 of this book, chomsky says that (and i am parapfrasing)it would be weird to identify myself as a member of these groups (including leftist zionism.)
conclusion: he is not zionist. i concede that. [however: i think people found a lot stronger voice in norman finkelstein than chomsky.]
ProStates, not to undermine what Zionism has done, but you are incorrect in your assumptions. The US has used Israel as a proxy state. It may at times seem like a bilateral relationship, but the US is the worlds hegemony, it keeps close relations with Israel to help maintain middle east dominance. It has dominated South America and South East Asia also, you cannot invoke Israel for that too.
People do not want to accept what the US world role has been and want to lay the blame on Zionism.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do think that Chomsky is a king zionist. His sole purpose is to draw people in with criticism of zionism, then he shifts blame to the United States. He is thee master propagandist of the English language. The zionist lobby has hijacked the U.S. lobby, not the other way around. Isreal has always had the same agenda. It is the U.S. that has changed to an absurdly pro isreal stance.
nobody ever said you can't blame both the Zionists and the US. It would be narrow minded to say it was only the zionists or ONLY the USA. Chomsky is simply discussing the complexity of the issue. It seems the point is that the powerful USA, in many ways, enables zionism. This is true regardless of whether there is a strong zionists lobby in the USA. The USA is more powerful and diverse than Zionism, yet they are intertwined.
I agree with Finkelstein. Chomsk's remarks on the MR thesis were correct, but off topic. I do not think this is because he is a Zionist--he clearly is not. But the M.R. thesis was a controversial topic he had to distance himself from to avoid further alienating himself from the liberal Jews (which he himself is). Both Chomsky and Finkelstein have been accused of being "self-haters."
To accuse them of being self haters, you don't have to listen to some experts, just listen yo both of them:what is their connection to Judaism? How many times they have been to Jerusale,a holy city for jews? They once said something good about land of Israel?
They are stinkers, the worst race of people. If you hate yourself,it's better for everyone that you die.
They don't seem to be happy people. All is bad,anti...
They just hate Zionist hypocrisy and crimes against humanity. It is the responsibility of Jews to liberate their faith and culture which has been appropriated by Zionist racists, lunatics and liars.
Chomsky's parents were zionists and he lived on a kibbutz in Israel as a young man. He, like most rational observers, is critical of Israel's atrocious treatment of the Palestinian people living in the territories Israel occupies. Neither Finkelstein nor Chomsky hate jews, Israel or themselves. You don't know what you're talking about.
If Jews were allowed to broadcast childrens programs teaching Jewish children to kill German children, if the Jews in Germany were allowed to elect leaders who called for the destruction of Germany and its citizens and actually killed Germans, and if in the 6 years (1939-1945) only 5,000 Jews died as a result of German counter terrorism
Well then no one not even I would criticize Germany.

The Palestinians killed are terrorists? Turn on the news once in a while, you dupe. Just a couple weeks ago some ~120 Palestinians were killed including women, children, etc.
What you must realize is that their nationallity is actually irrelevant. They just happened to be born there. It's the same with the nazi-germans. I'm sure they would have been different had they been born in, say, UK.
I heard a radio interview with Chomsky a while back with people calling in with questions, Finkelstein managed to get through and said [I'm paraphrasing here] that his biggest problem with Chomsky was that Chomsky spent too much time talking about the USA and not enough about other countries: Iran, Sudan, etc. I wonder why Finkelstein would prefer Chomsky talk about the problems of other countries rather than his own.
as chosmky says, what can you change if you critizice the castro goverment will it ever change of course not, what chomsky does is what is closest to his influence and that is criticize his own goverment having some posible effect, if you want change to acctually happen stop you government first them you can work on others

Two completely different things. You give me an example of people that recognized the legitimacy an occupying force. There isnt one.

Arjuna1901 3 years ago 6
There is no morality in this conflict. It's one powerful army against a much weaker militia.
It would logically make sense that the weaker militia would suffer more casualties. Just look at the various Lebanon wars. Israel killed 1000 civilians in the last one. All the human rights' groups agreed that Israel used indiscriminate force.
This is how they fight - with no concern for human life. That's how you create terrorists. Israel is the one with all the power. They could end the conflict now.
Arjuna1901 3 years ago 26
Ending the conflict however doesnt fit in with the israeli agenda.

ImTehWord 1 year ago
Anyone can look at the international record and see who kills more civilians. It's Israel that kills 10 times the number of children. 5 times the number of civilians.
You can't expect any population to react non-violently to a violent military occupation. This is not an excuse of suicide bombing but there should be no surprise there.
Palestinians should rise up and fight every Israeli off their land. They have no right to be there. The only reason Israel gets away with these crimes is money.
Arjuna1901 3 years ago 6
The Israeli High Court ruled that "Judea and Samaria" [West Bank] and the Gaza area are lands seized during warfare, and are not part of Israel. International law says that it is illegal to acquire territory by war. It is also illegal to transport a population to occupied territory.
It's obvious that Israel is colonizing the rest of historic Palestine. Only the most rabid Zionist will throw the law out the window.
All this garbage about terrorism is becoming less and less convincing.
Arjuna1901 3 years ago 5
Under international law a country/people have the right to fight their invaders. Every Israeli soldier in the Occupied Territories should be fought. Every Palestinian has the right to resist.
Israel kills 10 times as many children and 4.5 times as many civilians. Israel demolishes Palestinian homes, not the other way around. Israel imposes curfews on Palestinians, not the other way around.
Etc. etc. etc.
The fact of the matter is Israel is occupying Palestine. Not the other way around.

Judge Israel against Hamas/Fatah. Or against the Palestinian millitants fighting Israel in the occupied territories SINCE it's in YOUR context.
Jstripes99 3 years ago
the bloodies 8 years between Israeli and Palestinians has been brought on by Palestinians, they called for the intifads
2000-2008 Under 5,000 Killed
1980-1981- Syria kills 25,000 Arabs in response to Muslim Brotherhood threat
(Hamas is a Palestinian division of the Muslim Brotherhood.)
jimiydoorshamelech 3 years ago
First of all...Syria entered Lebanon in 1976 with Israeli and U.S. support to kill Palestinians in the first place. The First and Second Intifadas were a direct result to continued Israeli atrocities in the Occupied Territories. Israel continues to break international law and along with the U.S. has blocked a two-state settlement that there is an international consensus on, including all Arab states.

You completely get all of your facts wrong. Look at organizations like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, even Israeli human rights groups say that IDF forces have WILLFULLY killed Palestinian civilians, it's a fact, you can't dispute it! Even though Hamas and Hezbollah don't necessarily think Israel should exist, they OFFICIALLY support a two-state settlement, like the rest of the world, if and when Israel commits itself to withdrawing from the occupied territories.
ahoman1 3 years ago 2
haha the ARABS block the two-state solution and offers to return all occupied territories
Ehud Barak offered Arafat an eventual 91% (after many years - see section on territory) of the West Bank, and all of the Gaza Strip, with Palestinian control over Eastern Jerusalem as the capital of the new Palestinian state(ALL OCCUPIED TERRITORIES); in addition, all refugees could apply for compensation of property from an international fund to which Israel would contribute along with other countries.
jimiydoorshamelech 3 years ago
You're completely wrong. Israel along with the U.S. has continued to block an international consensus on a two-state settlement. Under international law the Palestinians are rightfully entitled to ALL of the occupied territories and the WHOLE city of Jerusalem. The Palestinians even offered to give Israel up to 50% in the West Bank and a significant amount in Gaza. It was Barak who called OFF negotiations at Taba when a settlement was close to being reached.
ahoman1 3 years ago 2
"haha the ARABS block the two-state solution and offers to return all occupied territories."
That is your quote...so Israel has offered to return ALL of the occupied territories to Palestine. That is completely false. Nothing even comes close. Why would the Palestinians have not taken that offer, that is exactly what they want and are entitled to.

If you want Israel to be removed then you must also pack up your home and leave American because it is Native Indian Land. I love the hypocrites in America talk about Israel controlling land that is not theirs when the DO exactly the same thing. Shove that logical apple down the colonialist Chmosky's throat.

How is Chomsky a colonialist - he opposes Israel's colonisation of Palestinian land?
helenbransgrove 3 years ago
Because he lives in the USA. This is Native land - the Indians owned this land. They were forceably killed and removed from this land. Chomsky lives in the USA - he never mentions this or talks about this. He is a hypocrite along with all the others who live in America but condemn Israel.
skettle2000 3 years ago
I've seen several references by Chomsky to the genocide of the indigenous population of the USA.
Israel is gross violator of human rights. All the human rights agencies have documented its atrocities.
It destroyed Lebanon two years ago. It routinely tortures Palestinians including minors and holds thousands of political prisoners in its jails with no legal process. It is conducting a genocidal siege of Gaza and blockading humanitarian supplies to the West Bank. The Occupation is illegal.
helenbransgrove 3 years ago
If Chomsky really believed in his so called morals - he would pack up and leave the United States and not live on land that was STOLEN from the native Indians.
skettle2000 3 years ago

Chomsky is an authentic anarchist, the lesser their are rules and regulations are imposed on human beings the better; while Finkelstein tends to have fascist sympathies, especially when he expresses his admiration for Hezbollah.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
Prof. Finkelstein's parents are holocaust survivors. In light of this, your assertion that he has fascist sympathies without providing evidence/arguments earns you the right to inhabit the dungeons of shame for the rest of your life.
aamonti 3 years ago
Nasrallah is to Lebanon what Musssolini was to Italy, Franco to Spain, Hitler to Gemany...When Finkelstein openly advocates his support for Hezbollah saying among other things that what he admires in them is their order and discipline, he does have fascist sympathies. It's as simple as that. Nothing to do with his parents being Holocaust survivors.
And by the way, can someone tell me how Finkelstein's parents mangaged to survive the holocaust? Where they in a camp? Which one?
warmperson2007 3 years ago
Finkelstein's bio is on his webpage.
aamonti 3 years ago
Israel sent it's troops into Lebanon solely to deal with the Hezbollah, not because of territorial ambition.
Sorry to disappoint you but to me Finkelstein is just an eccenctric fool.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
Ok, too bad that the eccentric fool is praised by many of the specialists on Israeli-Palestinian/Middle-East issues: Raul Hilberg, Avi Shlaim, Noam Chomsky.
But maybe you're right. You are the true intellectual. And the rest of the world is just stupid.
aamonti 3 years ago
The list of the specialists on the Middle East contains MUCH MORE people who oppose Finkelstein than people who support him. That's a fact. I am just an ordinary person, going along with the crowd.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
...Because I believe that the vast majority of Israelis and Palestinians desire a normal and peaceful life for them and their children, far away from those who advocate violence. They are fed up with extremists on all sides, hijacking their lives.
The conflict is not a conflict between Israeli and Palestinians, nor is it between Muslims and Jews. The real conflict is between the moderates on both sides demanding a place free from violence, bloodshed and fear, and violent extremism.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
...Finkelstein is animated by hatred that comes from deep inside himself. Dershowitz is a real moderate dreaming of an independent and viable Palestinian state living in peace with it's neighbor Israel.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
Honestly, I think you haven't read anything by Finkelstein, or Dershowitz, or Goldhagen, even. You just go with what other people say without having your own idea. As you wrote earlier, "you go with the crowd". Like sheep. If everybody says Finkelstein is evil, you repeat "Finkelstein is evil". Kudos.
Last thing. Opinions should be "well-informed". Before you have your own, make sure to have the info. Read, watch, listen. Then think. Don't borrow other people's opinions. Don't bleat.
aamonti 3 years ago
You think, you think...Well let me tell you I read Daniel Goldahagen's book for the first time ten years ago, was very positively impressed, and reread it from time time to time. In fact it's on my desk right now as I am writing. And Dershowitz's "The case for Israel", I read it only two weeks ago. It is still fresh in my mind. I did not read Finkelstein. It's not in the libraries in Japan anyway. YOU are the sheep. In fact you are pathetic ignorant full of predjudices! And arrogant too!
warmperson2007 3 years ago
If you have not read Finkelstein, then your assessment of him is without merit. I have never read Goldahagen, and I have no oppinion about him. I only hope that you read more carefully than you write.
halamedvav 3 years ago
If only this were as simple as you see it. But unfortunately, it isn't.
Isreali settlements are in breach of international law. I didn't say this. The International Court of Justice said it.
Israel wants more land. Land with fresh water reserves. It occupied it, forced the inhabitants out, and built settlements, known as "colonies".
Palestinians thus do not have a country, land, homes, and water.
Unfortunately, moderation will not stop Israeli tanks or caterpillars.
aamonti 3 years ago
Yes yes! Why don't you liberate yourself from the internet and go by or rent a book, for God's sake! Get some education, you idiot! You talk about the Isnternational court of Justice, fresh water reservs, settlements....and you do not know no shit! Get lost!!!
warmperson2007 3 years ago

Dr. Finelstien does say thing that are right but many times he is digging his own grave using strong words as lie and fraud.
isabellamore 3 years ago

And Mr Finkelstein's positions belong to the former while Mr Chomsky's belong to the latter.
warmperson2007 3 years ago
however: i would like everyone to keep in mind that prof. chomsky said that he was engaged in any zionist fractions that lean towards left. in other words: prof. chomsky could have some tendency toward zionism.
in any case: finkelstein rules! no question about it.
aktal 4 years ago
In his youth, Chomsky was a Zionist Youth leader that was opposed to the formation of a Jewish state on philosophical grounds (For the same reason there shouldn't be a Christian state, or a Muslim state, etc.). It is all very confusing. Check out his interview on "Conversations with History."
johnnybravo3001 3 years ago 2
thanks for the reply. that's right. my comment was actually a blend from he impression i got from tarik ali's clash of civilizations (though the author in this book doesn't say anything about chomsky; but he talks about a similar figure's perceptions) and robert f. barsky's noam chomsky: a life of dissent.
aktal 3 years ago
in a letter that chomsky sent to barsky, a portion of which constitutes the epigraf of the section-1 of this book, chomsky says that (and i am parapfrasing)it would be weird to identify myself as a member of these groups (including leftist zionism.)
conclusion: he is not zionist. i concede that. [however: i think people found a lot stronger voice in norman finkelstein than chomsky.]
aktal 3 years ago
ProStates, not to undermine what Zionism has done, but you are incorrect in your assumptions. The US has used Israel as a proxy state. It may at times seem like a bilateral relationship, but the US is the worlds hegemony, it keeps close relations with Israel to help maintain middle east dominance. It has dominated South America and South East Asia also, you cannot invoke Israel for that too.
People do not want to accept what the US world role has been and want to lay the blame on Zionism.

ProStatesDebate 4 years ago
nobody ever said you can't blame both the Zionists and the US. It would be narrow minded to say it was only the zionists or ONLY the USA. Chomsky is simply discussing the complexity of the issue. It seems the point is that the powerful USA, in many ways, enables zionism. This is true regardless of whether there is a strong zionists lobby in the USA. The USA is more powerful and diverse than Zionism, yet they are intertwined.
theautomata 4 years ago
I agree with Finkelstein. Chomsk's remarks on the MR thesis were correct, but off topic. I do not think this is because he is a Zionist--he clearly is not. But the M.R. thesis was a controversial topic he had to distance himself from to avoid further alienating himself from the liberal Jews (which he himself is). Both Chomsky and Finkelstein have been accused of being "self-haters."
lamedvav 4 years ago
To accuse them of being self haters, you don't have to listen to some experts, just listen yo both of them:what is their connection to Judaism? How many times they have been to Jerusale,a holy city for jews? They once said something good about land of Israel?
They are stinkers, the worst race of people. If you hate yourself,it's better for everyone that you die.
They don't seem to be happy people. All is bad,anti...
kiril1 3 years ago
They just hate Zionist hypocrisy and crimes against humanity. It is the responsibility of Jews to liberate their faith and culture which has been appropriated by Zionist racists, lunatics and liars.
helenbransgrove 3 years ago 3

Well then no one not even I would criticize Germany.

except the palestinians killed are terrorists, and the Jews killed are civilians... you cant just compare numbers, the context is different
dandude5008 3 years ago
The Palestinians killed are terrorists? Turn on the news once in a while, you dupe. Just a couple weeks ago some ~120 Palestinians were killed including women, children, etc.
CaptainZeep 3 years ago
How can you say that all palestinians are terrorists?? Are you completely retarded?
bbkingzor 3 years ago
excuse me I was misunderstood, i meant the majority. I apologize for that, my misitake.
The fact is that the retaliatory operations carried out by the IDF are to thwart further terrorism.
EVERY SINGLE attack by Palestinians are aimed at killing the most civilians as possible.
Really, the terror from Gaza should have stopped 2.5 years ago...when Israel DISENGAGED from Gaza!
It just shows that Hamas doesn't want peace since they keep attacking the Israelis.
dandude5008 3 years ago

KentAllard 5 years ago
as chosmky says, what can you change if you critizice the castro goverment will it ever change of course not, what chomsky does is what is closest to his influence and that is criticize his own goverment having some posible effect, if you want change to acctually happen stop you government first them you can work on others
