  • i find it funny how so many people use madeup statistics this way to prove a point: "99.9% of the people out there..."

  • I can't even find a wrestling school in AZ for people out of highschool. So...if your school didn't even have it, then you missed the boat forever? That's fucked up! Wrestling is more useful than BJJ!

  • I dint know that the Gracies were of Scottish origins. Cool.

  • That dude with the cauliflower ears sounds a bit punchy...in fact quite a few of these guys sounds a little bit punchy

  • @JonathanBloggs Hauter sounds really punchy alright, in his newer videos he sound really normal now, I wonder if he had had some hard training that week

  • As usual Matt is right on target. RDragon, poking someone in the eye is not as easy as it may seem. After all if you have a hard time hitting someone with a 16oz glove what makes you think you can poke em in the eye? Someone who does BJJ, Thai boxing, etc will have a much easier time using dirty fighting techniques than someone who has no training and lacks those delivery systems. Great work Matt.

  • I agree I've personally eye gouged people in real situations in ground fighting. It too their motivation away but it was no way near 'the deadly' and trust worthy technique that TMA's say it is... eye poking etc r common fouls in my understanding of grappling arts so they are used to it, plus also grapplers can still eye gouge and with positioning, they'd be better at it :-)

  • Wow! What a great series. Chris Hautuer's analogy: learning a martial art vs. learning a language. What a great piece of insight.

The only thing I disagree with a little bit is Asian MA. They don't all suck - there are a few good ones: Judo, Kyokushin Karate, and Muai Thai. And BJJ is really Judo ne-waza. The training methods were altered by the Brazilians but the techniques are the same.

But the majority of Asian MA's use dead training methods and suck.

  • He's spot on, the more I train the more I see this is a more a mental game.

And hard alive training does not = brutality. that's what TMAs don't get, all they do let 2 people whack each other til they drop , not the way to learn or train, just an extension of their sadomasachitic perverted caste system.

  • RDraGon, you've missed the point of what they're saying. Boxing may have less theoretical techniques than most asian martial arts but it will teach you how to actually punch someone who's fighting you back. You might like the idea of winning with an eye poke but the chances are when a boxer or MMA fighter is coming at you hard and fast and smacking you in the face you're not going to gety the opportunity.

  • boxing vs judo yep

  • i dont know muay thai vs boxing

  • I think he needs to go to asia and learn what works and what doesn't work because boxing doesn't work against any martial art because in boxing you only punch. That is why you have 4 range of fighting. There is a lot of techniques that do work in asian martial arts but a lot of it is pretty. You just need to know what works and what doesn't work. And if I poke a you in the eye you won't be able to grapple for a sec which gives me a chance to punch elbow and knee or better yet grapple u instead
