Yzerman was good but the main reason why the Wings were so good is because the owner took advantage of no salary cap and spent ridiculous amounts of money. The Red Wings buy championships. Messier was a way bigger difference maker in the locker room than any other player. He lead two teams to Stanley Cups. Don't get my wrong I like Yzerman but I think the Red Owner's pocket book gave him a helping hand.
