I clocked in a 90/5 the other day but I average 40-50/5 with cox. I use Verizon for phone service (AT&T blows), and were i living close to a coastline, i'd probably consider verizon for internet due to the way salt air interacts with copper wiring. That said, Pretty much every person i know who has their internet has had a terrible installation with a lousy default modem/router combo. The packages tend to be overpriced and Verizon overstates how valuable the upload speed is for your average user
The FiOS products keep winning awards + survey rankings for what Verizon offer today. Virtually all the experts realize now that the only way to meet the future demands of the connected home is with fiber. Cable's even looking at the changeover, some report. DOCSIS 3.0 will max out the coax; no more headroom based on physics. Want more broadband? Kill some TV channels.
With fiber-optics, there are no limits; you just add another color of light and bingo: more bandwidth. FiOS wins.
At this time, Verizon is focused on building its all-fiber-optic network in its existing service areas. Unfortunately, Sacramento is not in our service area; however, on a very limited scale Verizon has recently expanded the build out of our all-fiber-optic network out of franchise in the suburban Dallas area.
Thank you for your interest, but Verizon's FiOS service is not available in the Sacramento area. In CA, FiOS is available in parts of these counties: Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino.
At what speed would it look like if i was downloading anything. When I test my connection it says 1.2mbps down and 325kbps up. When I download off anything it only shows 160kb/s. What would that look like? Please someone with verison fios tell me.
Oh i want to get this service, but right now I have AT&T and when I run a speed test it says my Download is 1.2mbps and my upload is 325kbps. But when I download from filesharing websites or other websites I only get a download of 160kb/s. So if I were to get 20/20 Verison Fios what would my download speed be.
Some sites have servers that limit upload and download speeds. There are many servers out there that don't so Verizon 20/20 FiOS Internet will give you tremendous speed when you are uploading a file or downloading it.
I think Flickr is one site that limits its servers so while we were uploading photos at 20 Mbps, their server capped it. We chose Flickr b/c it's popular - we did not want to present a laboratory-based demo that would not be meaningful.
Why does the bar for the 800 KB file go across the screen at the same rate as the 1.7 MB file? It's half the size & should go across the screen twice as fast! This is nonsense.. Typical Verizon....
Bullshit... If you were really uploading at 20 Mbps you would see 3 or 4 of those 1 Meg files uploading each second.. My guess is your real upload speed was about 5 or 6 Mbps...
Um... Dumbass... Do the math. If you are talking about 20Mbps, that equates to 2.5MBs. Given that the files are about 1Meg, you are at best going to get 2.5 files per second. Add in the time that Flickr has for cataloging and requesting the next file and the speed on their end, she probably had more than enough speed. I've done uploading tests with my Fios and have consistently gotten close to what I am paying for.
So much for FiOS standing for the word knowledge...Dick Head... Here's what I'm saying.. 1st, Go to Start/Run & then type timedate.cpl.. Now you see that clock ticking off the seconds? Now do you see the YouTube video with each 1 Meg file (8 Mbps) going across the screen 1 SECOND AT A TIME. Now you can do the math moron...
Let me do the math for you. From 1:08 to 1:21She uploads 10 one meg files. 10 x 8 = 80 Million Bits in 13 Seconds. Divide 80 Million bits by 13 seconds and what do you get Einstein? Ready for this? 6.15 Mbps Upload... Not 20 Mbps.. Who's the Dumbass.. Idiots like you that went with FiOS...
See they say 20mbps down and up, but if you're surfing the internet, you won't always be getting 20mbps down or up, because if you download at 20mbps from a server who has an upload limit of 5mbps, you will only get 5mbps. Also, if you upload at 20mbps to that same server with a 5mbps download you will only get 5mbps.

Might have made no sense, but it's true.
BTW the average for servers is 100-200mbps...
