I did a paper on horse slaughter/abuse and am going to do a speech. I've done my research. I know what I'm talking about. Do you ride horses? Do you know what you can/can't tolerate from a horse that is over 1,000 lbs? I'll admit. If my horse kicks, bites, rears, bucks, anything that shows bad manners, I slap her. Never near her face...
but she does get a punishment for being out of line! It's very rare for her to ever try to hurt me because she knows she'll get in trouble. I still play with her all the time and we have an amazing bond, but she knows her limits. In my opinion, rodeo is only abuse when abusive things take place, like when they use cattle prods on the horses. The only cow event is discourage is the one where the cow is ripped off the ground and rotated at least 180 degrees. Other than that, EVERYTHING IS FINE.
@horseygirl163460 You should stay clear of my ranch lol. I don't do the calf roping as fast as these guys do, but yes I do rope and tie calves. Know why? To doctor them. Do I used cattle prods? At times yes I do. Ever try to make a 1500 lb animal move with some sort of motivation? Whether it be a swat on the ass with a whip or a shock. And yes, I have been shocked with a prod before.
First of all, rodeo horses are not ridden. They are forced in chutes, with straps tightened around their extremely sensitive flanks. Second of all, staying on a horse for 8 seconds; encouraging it to buck wildly is not and will never be considered riding. Or Horsemanship for that matter. If I wanted to ride, or possibly own one of these horses I would actually gain its trust and break it in. Like a civilized individual, who doesn't act like they live as a neanderthal.
@queenluciaa first off the flank strap does not hurt the horses or bull at most it tickle's them. second rodeo is a sport not lesure riding the horses have never been trained. finally most of the time the horses spend the rest of the lives breeding or a sold the broke for riding.

I used to help get the cows in in winter, feed them, check the water and fencing are safe and, Oh god, I just realized! I'v NEVER had trouble getting a 1500lb animal to move. Maybe its all the love and tlc we give them? Sure, beating it, electrocution and injuring it makes it more fun right? Wake up. Since when do you have to dominate a calf or frightened animal?

I'm 24 years old, I've been doing this my whole life. Sure when I doctor calves I use a rope and a sting to tie their legs together. Its just as easy. Sure they have calving tables and such, but I can't afford them. I take it you worked on a big ranch with lots of help right? Guess what, its only me and my dad on mine. 2 people to do all the work

All loved, especially with the mash and peas. Tie up a calf? Would you do that to your baby? I don't hate the ranching in america. Why these stupid competitions. YOU might be kind at will with your cattle but what about the competition cattle? Their not yours so why bother being worried about them? I that how it is?

@queenluciaa this video is from 2007 and from 1 rodeo and its on youtube. I was talking about in REAL LIFE. I go to rodeo's all the time and i have never not even once seen a single animal being dragged out. they all walk out without even limping. you are allowed to see the horses and cattle at all of the ones i go to and they all have lots of food and water and NO i repeat NO scars or wounds i make sure to check the animals out not only because i love to see them but because i care about them.

True PETA can be annoying but at least theyre amusing, but even PETA seems to have forgotten the animals abused in rodeos. They put their energy into efforts to stop factory farms and fur farms. HSUS focuses on companion animals with a little of effort tward atrocities in meat and entertainment industries. SHARK seems to be the only group really focused on the abuses taking place at the rodeo. someone has to do it.

Amen to that! All of the stock contractors I know treat their rodeo animals like royalty and often get better treatment than most people think. Flying Diamond Rodeo is one of them that would rather shoot themselves than to see an animal abused.
Ok a couple questions for you first do you know anything about cattle? I don't think you do because if you did you would know they crap all the time for real it didn't have the crap scared out of it second do it mean I am an animal abuser because I have dropped a calf like they do or pushed them through a shute so they could have their shots? Team roping cattle get more than just "run through" a couple of times. They aren't breakaway cattle, or tie down calves, they need a little work. When i said they were trained, all I meant was, they aren't helpless little cows out there that have no idea what is going on. SHARK sucks.
They are trained. It's a long process to train roping steers. It takes weeks. Same thing goes for calves. They usually only run once per rodeo. Sometimes they run twice. Most rodeos are without injuries or fatalities. SHARK makes it seem like an animal gets hurt at every rodeo. This simply isn't the truth.
Actually they are different. In ranching they rope calves because they have to whether its to move them or because its injured or has strayed etc...in rodeo the calves are so called "trained" in the most abusive manner and have to be a certain weight etc (which is well below the weight they should be) and men rope the same calves over and over and do it as a game not because they are really trying to accomplish something that may be in the best interest of the animal.

but she does get a punishment for being out of line! It's very rare for her to ever try to hurt me because she knows she'll get in trouble. I still play with her all the time and we have an amazing bond, but she knows her limits. In my opinion, rodeo is only abuse when abusive things take place, like when they use cattle prods on the horses. The only cow event is discourage is the one where the cow is ripped off the ground and rotated at least 180 degrees. Other than that, EVERYTHING IS FINE.

First of all, rodeo horses are not ridden. They are forced in chutes, with straps tightened around their extremely sensitive flanks. Second of all, staying on a horse for 8 seconds; encouraging it to buck wildly is not and will never be considered riding. Or Horsemanship for that matter. If I wanted to ride, or possibly own one of these horses I would actually gain its trust and break it in. Like a civilized individual, who doesn't act like they live as a neanderthal.

My horse and my dog are a part of my family and my horse loves to go ride for cows as much as I do. As for rodeos, those are some the most well taken care of stock you will ever find. Most of the bulls used in the PBR and PRCA are family pets when they are not in the arena, ive watched little kids ridin them around the front yard.

All in all, SHARK even lost a lot of the money trying to get the PRCA to strengthen the rules. But of course PRCA Idiots blantly refused. Funny how you end with God Bless. I used to help get the cows in in winter, feed them, check the water and fencing are safe and, Oh god, I just realized! I'v NEVER had trouble getting a 1500lb animal to move. Maybe its all the love and tlc we give them? Sure, beating it, electrocution and injuring it makes it more fun right? Wake up. Since when do you have to dominate a calf or frightened animal?

I'm 24 years old, I've been doing this my whole life. Sure when I doctor calves I use a rope and a sting to tie their legs together. Its just as easy. Sure they have calving tables and such, but I can't afford them. I take it you worked on a big ranch with lots of help right? Guess what, its only me and my dad on mine. 2 people to do all the work

your right, whats shown in this video is wrong. but not all of the people that participate in rodeos are like this. and there isn't a rope around the horses testicles, its a flank strap. and the steer with the broken neck, thats steer bustin and thats only legal in one or two states. and the animals only get hurt when the people participating aren't doing it right. and the guys hurt just as much as the animals. but there are dumbasses that abuse them, but not everybody does

@queenluciaa this video is from 2007 and from 1 rodeo and its on youtube. I was talking about in REAL LIFE. I go to rodeo's all the time and i have never not even once seen a single animal being dragged out. they all walk out without even limping. you are allowed to see the horses and cattle at all of the ones i go to and they all have lots of food and water and NO i repeat NO scars or wounds i make sure to check the animals out not only because i love to see them but because i care about them.

It makes you a cowboy just as much as it makes you a horseman they are the same thing just different names the only difference is in one you only work with horses and in the other you work with both. not all of the rodeo is like this, but alot of it is. I find dragging the cattle, and strapping the studs a little much for little fun. but barrels and cattle penning is awsome. I see this story from both sides. watching the vidio I absolutly hate rodeos, but I know that it is not all like that. so I am 50-50 I guess

right. now im not. go look at my video. im basing my knowledge on what i KNOW. from experince with rodeos. i had a "behind the secenes"" tour becuz i won a competition when i went to one when i had no idea what they were like. i was only 8 or 9. when i saw the animals back in there so called "yards" i was horrified. no water. feed. flank straps still on. heaps more stuff wrong with those animals. so shut ya mouth and back off

True PETA can be annoying but at least theyre amusing, but even PETA seems to have forgotten the animals abused in rodeos. They put their energy into efforts to stop factory farms and fur farms. HSUS focuses on companion animals with a little of effort tward atrocities in meat and entertainment industries. SHARK seems to be the only group really focused on the abuses taking place at the rodeo. someone has to do it.

Amen to that! All of the stock contractors I know treat their rodeo animals like royalty and often get better treatment than most people think. Flying Diamond Rodeo is one of them that would rather shoot themselves than to see an animal abused.

Team roping cattle get more than just "run through" a couple of times. They aren't breakaway cattle, or tie down calves, they need a little work. When i said they were trained, all I meant was, they aren't helpless little cows out there that have no idea what is going on. SHARK sucks.

They are trained. It's a long process to train roping steers. It takes weeks. Same thing goes for calves. They usually only run once per rodeo. Sometimes they run twice. Most rodeos are without injuries or fatalities. SHARK makes it seem like an animal gets hurt at every rodeo. This simply isn't the truth.

Actually they are different. In ranching they rope calves because they have to whether its to move them or because its injured or has strayed etc...in rodeo the calves are so called "trained" in the most abusive manner and have to be a certain weight etc (which is well below the weight they should be) and men rope the same calves over and over and do it as a game not because they are really trying to accomplish something that may be in the best interest of the animal.
