I think it was a brilliant idea to have those "everyday" sounds in the background. Those voices, the children. It totally makes the music feel unique and beautiful. It makes me feel like the world is going on but the painful story is stuck. No one can understand it, everyone is just thinking about there own lives. That's exactly what makes it more painful. I listen to this when I just want to block everything out. One of my most favorite pieces and one of my most favorite movies of all time.

Yes but the the girl that sings in the opening credits is good. She also sings in the closing credits. Listen to her scream!! above the rest of the instruments. I still don't know her name. I had the videotape so I simply piped in my favourite parts to the casssette desk.

Yes, that was Luba. I bought the CD hoping the love theme would be on it. Luba is good. Sings the beginning and ending song. This song is what I like to call "mood music". It makes me drift away into a romantic world.

The best answer to your question is that the song is by JACK NITZSCHE who did the music for the movie. His name is actually in the opening credits for Music credit. The actual name of the song is still a bit of a mystery, most just call it "Love Theme" from the move. I only saw one reference in the other comment calling it "Real Love", I don't know if it's correct. This song is very hard to find, if not impossible since it's not on the 9 1/2 weeks soundtrack and NOT on iTunes or anywhere else.
