I don't think Homura would have gotten on with Mami anyway, considering how she previously goes axe crazy and tried to shoot her... There was a reason why Homura decided to work with Kyoko.

This is why he uses Mami's death as a way to force the other two girls to become magical girls through pressure and an intense stress situation.

I already knew that Mami died (from Charlotte and from Madoka), that Kyubeii was evil, and that Homura loved Madoka and Kyouko loved Sayaka, Sayaka became a psychopath, that Homura wore glasses and was a time lord before watching it, but I STILL CRAPPED BRICKS WHEN I FINALLY SAW IT
I always didn't like this because Mami is my favorite magical girl. She had a very elegant battle style (one of the most elegant I've ever seen) when fighting those enemies, and even though she was a bit careless to fight Charlotte head on like that, she did not underestimate her and used almost all she had until it lead to her immediate and totally unexpected death, which made it even more sad for me! T-T I WANT MORE MAMI! T------T

Mami's face (which says "Huh?") right before the bite pretty much tells everything. Due to her friendship high, she totally didn't expect the Charlotte to survive Tiro Finale much less launch an attack resulting in her immediate death. That surprise froze Mami when she would have reacted under normal circumstances. It's also why I didn't like her redone face in the DVD/BD version; while it leaves a more emotional impact, it's also out of character for her.
You know, if Mami didn't just tie up Homura with ribbon, she would've never died :3 Also, if Sayaka turned into a Magical Girl. Mami's head probably wouldn't have been bitten off...
I think, in the whole "Charlotte eating Mami" bit, that Charlotte's appearance was more along the lines of freaking fast, and they wanted to slow down the "about to get eaten" to show how dramatic it is...
That's why Mami didn't dodge, Charlotte was too fast.
I would've dropped back and rolled to the side like mad. Well, if it was aiming high, that might've been helpful....and I really mean "might" when I say that. Chances are slim.

In the previous two episodes, she fights in a way that is calculated. Here, she rushes -- she loses focus, it seems. She's happy, and unfortunately as the rest of the series has shown us, happiness doesn't last for long.

My point stands, Charlotte's main body popping out then stretching all the way to gobble Mami up shows that Charlotte wasn't as slow as everyone at the time thought, considering some were screaming, "She's inching towards you, why don't you dodge?"
It's a dramatic effect to show the intensity of the scene and cement the mood of the series.

She might've not died if she shot charlotte in the face when she tied down the body so the second form would be killed while still inside the main body.. it'd have no where to go since the lower body chamber is squeezed off...

Homura jumps and distracts Charlotte, Charlotte dives to bite Homura, homura quickly jumped out of the way and threw Kyubey into Charlotte's mouth Homura throws a Yellow bomb in Charlotte's mouth as well. Charlotte and Kyubey die!!!!

I think, in the whole "Charlotte eating Mami" bit, that Charlotte's appearance was more along the lines of freaking fast, and they wanted to slow down the "about to get eaten" to show how dramatic it is...
That's why Mami didn't dodge, Charlotte was too fast.

@TheDrunkenwhale That is one way to think, but it is heavily implied that she was high on the power of friendship.
In the previous two episodes, she fights in a way that is calculated. Here, she rushes -- she loses focus, it seems. She's happy, and unfortunately as the rest of the series has shown us, happiness doesn't last for long.

@TheDrunkenwhale It wasn't only that, I think. Mami was overloaded by happiness from the fact she wouldn't fight alone anymore. That kind of thought can be fatal in a fight to the death. Overconfidence, lack of attention.... these things have no place in a fight.

@FeanorBR Yes, I'm aware of Mami's overconfidence and lack of attention proved to be fatal and that cost her life, but... My point stands, Charlotte's main body popping out then stretching all the way to gobble Mami up shows that Charlotte wasn't as slow as everyone at the time thought, considering some were screaming, "She's inching towards you, why don't you dodge?"
It's a dramatic effect to show the intensity of the scene and cement the mood of the series.

@TheDrunkenwhale I understand, yes Charlotte was very fast on her main body, but really, Mami completely left her guard down due to the assumption that she had defeated the opponent at that point. That was pretty stupid on her part, specially considering she was a veteran.

@TheDrunkenwhale Yet Charolette paused then slow down when it got close (with everyone reacting in normal speed), long enough for Mami to not only get her wits back together but also attempt to dodge. I would have accepted her death then, but she didn't. Actually I am curious as of why she froze.

Homura jumps and distracts Charlotte, Charlotte dives to bite Homura, homura quickly jumped out of the way and threw Kyubey into Charlotte's mouth Homura throws a Yellow bomb in Charlotte's mouth as well. Charlotte and Kyubey die!!!!
