  • Why do these on-boards always end before the driver goes for it? It happens with Nelson Piquet's lap at Detroit in 1987 it only shows the out-lap.

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97 I think these laps were just to shoot the film. Bear in mind that in those days there were no onboard video cameras yet, those cameras were cinema cameras, some huge blocks attached to the top of the car. I suppose the driver couldn't push too hard because the camera's attachment could fail, dropping a big cinema camera onto the middle of the track.

  • Hehehe 1:00 XDDDDD he signals and then the Ferrari and Mclaren sweep past.

  • he was overtaken by a lotus, an Alfa Romeo, two Ferraris and a mclaren

  • Looks as if the tires still have the stickers on them . . .

  • @pencilneck22 fresh tires thats why......i think he was preparing for a fast lap

  • I don't really understand the point of this vid. I don't really get all that excited watching someone get there tyres up to racing temp.

  • put brands back onto the F1 calender and show them a proper circuit.

  • @RedBullRacingFan001 10 seconds and you pull a Mark Webber and do a barrel roll, then I'll give it to you. :P

  • @RedBullRacingFan001 As I said you're a grade A idiot. It's a fucking game dumbass, nothing like the real thing, you're pulling 0G's, you have 0 stress, you're not wearing a 5 layer fireproof suit and a helmet in a 60-65c car, when you break it doesn't for the air out of your lungs because in full braking F1 cars pull negative 6G's. If an average person were to drive an F1 car to the same extant as a professional, you would snap ligaments and start to tear muscles and eventually pass out.

    Asshat

  • @RedBullRacingFan001 And you, on the other hand, have raced a F1 car and know excactly how fast and scary it's not, correct?

Because I know many former F1 drivers who have driven modern day F1 cars and express vividly how modern day F1 cars are much more demanding on the driver because they have endless grip, sure they require less wrestling, and less finessing, but the cornering G forces are much higher and consistently last longer. But of course you wouldn't know, you're an idiot RBR fan.

  • @RedBullRacingFan001 You're a grade A idiot, no driver wants to be in harms way, and trust me if you sat in that cockpit, it would be the most fun you ever had in your life. Even though you know you're safe, the speed... its beyond comprehension, the car moves, and acts faster than you can think let alone even respond. You'd be in a wall in 5 seconds, let alone if you managed to get out of the pits.

  • Porque lo superan todos? que va rezagado?

  • I love these old-school tracks with tons of elevation changes and curved surfaces. I hope F1 goes back to Donington again.

  • why? why does that look so freakin cool ? why? why? why? god it just looks so much funner i mean the 70s 80s love and getting lots of pussy yeah that was f1 boys!!!

  • This track is the best

  • Gotta love the integrity of those GOOD*YEAR stickers. ..and a shout out to 182-the old ones were a much better class.

  • 1:04 Ferrari sound Amazing :D Italian Heart :)

  • Nige' is my fucking hero!

His balls are so big they 'ARE' the back wheels on the car.

  • the best crazie driver . sorry my bad english jeje

  • New technologies ruins real racing.

  • Its only a demonstration run at Practice. Very slow. In 1984 they had no onboard cameras. They put a big HI8 or VHS Camera on the car.

  • It's Mansell, and the year is 1984

  • No, that's Mansell's lid, you're just not used to seeing it from that angle - look for the points just behind the visor ends and the red stripe around the blue area. Team mate was Elio de Angelis (white lid), test driver was Johnny Dumfries but he probably wouldn't have run at the GP weekend.

  • @GregWebbPhotographer

Agreed. Definitely is Mansell. Dumfries never ran a car on a GP weekend until his debut in Brazil in 1986.

  • a flying lap would have been better

  • That's not Mansell, plus he is hardly pushing the car...

  • its not mansell as helmet & race suit colours are all wrong. dont think its johnny dumfries either. no idea who it actually is to be honest.

  • blip blip Crazy... :)

  • great in-car footage. only problem is that it isnt mansell. helmet & race suit colours are wrong. it might be johnny dumfries but it certainly isnt mansell.

good to see proper race cars on a proper circuit. proper corners & not some sterile computer designed nonsense such as valencia or singapore.

  • No. Alboreto Was in Ferrari in 1984.

    Probably Patrese in Benetton.

  • @gvilmito Benetton was only the sponsor. It was Patrese in the Alfa Romeo.

  • the car that passed him at Paddock hill...

wasn't that Michele Alboreto in his turbo Bennetton?

  • Hello!....The car that passed him is the ALFA ROMEO 184T sponsored in 1984 and 1985 season by BENETTON. The engine was an ALFA ROMEO 1.5 liters V8 Turbo and the driver in question was the american EDDIE CHEEVER...

  • I think that the short Brands Hatch circuit is a complete waste. Why in bloody hell did they shorten such an iconic British track? I saw the DTM race on tv and nothing but right handers. And cars are only going flat out on the front straight. I would rather see silverstone.

  • hes a good driver

  • no , mansell is a great driver.

  • could someone say me if does exist a DVD with this ind of cameracar? from where are you taking them?

  • It's from a video/dvd called 'lap of the gods'

  • At 17 seconds you can clearly see his team mate Elio de Angelis going by in the sister JPS Lotus.

  • that was only an out lap

  • definitly awesome

  • 1:05 is awesome!

  • Brands GP circuit is wonderful. In 1985 (I was about 7 or 8 yys old at the time) my local school was allowed to do a 10 lap charity bike ride around the Indy circuit. Where the Indy circuit leaved the GP circuit l, the road had been closed off with cones. Myself and friend decided to go for a lap of the GP circuit and sneeked past the barrier!. We cycled a lap of the GP circuit. To be able to cycle such a historic piece of Tarmac i will not forget. Long live Brands Hatch.

  • Marvellous deed, seriously, at that age it shows great knowledge and passion for the sport. I'm just imagining Pilgrims drop... i guess you'll never forget it.

  • (prevoius intended to ijlines)

  • was he drunk? seemed v slow and even the lines into corners were off

  • this was either a practice or qual session and he was prolly just making a lap or two to warm up those tyres and brakes before doing a "hot" lap for time.

  • "Mansel, Piquet, Senna and Prost are legends."

    I Agreed!!!

    The good old times...........

  • Mansel, Piquet, Senna and Prost are legends. Nice video

  • Brands Grand Prix was a fabulous Circuit, the only up & down UK circuit.

  • wot a grate driver, we do have some of the best F1 divers in the word ..iv bin rownd Brans grate track sadly just as a passenger, but at 120mpa...grate vid

  • I wish I could drive in Brands Hatch! Maybe one day...

Britons, you can't even realize how lucky you are to have such a beautiful track!

  • They have a racing school there, if I recall correctly, so it's not impossible to drive there. Race is another matter. It is an excellent circuit, though the runoffs are a little limited and don't use enough gravel traps.

  • I also would like Brands Hatch to be brought back into F1. I just feel that silverstone is a boring track.

  • Brands Indy is fun but boring, the GP circuit is great bt no way could F1 be run there with the current run off and facilities.

  • Very true, Brands is way too great a circuit for today's pussy GP cars and drivers. I mean, there would be the chance of injury if a car went off at Hawthorns, and we can't have any RISK now can we.

  • Actually safety level can be adjusted by adding some safer barriers and stuff like that it's not uneditible.

  • Dude dont label today's drivers as "pussies." Its not like they have any control over what they drive. You can thank Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone for ruining F1.

  • Jackie Stewart did not help ruin F1

  • Stirling Moss is quoted as saying that F1 is not such a challenge now, with not enough risk. I started following F1 in the 1970s when it seemed that around 3 drivers a year were killed. Nobody wants to see that, but at the same time if there's little risk what's the point? My main disappointment is with the way the circuits have been destroyed for safety reasons.

  • i still dont believe its Jackie thats behind that, but i do agree with you. Circuits have been destroyed because bernie has a love fetish with Tilke's boring ass tracks.

  • damm right : )

  • Well, if it's danger you want, start following Irish road racing and the Isle of Man TT races! Modern F1 has had it as far as i'm concerned.

  • @Rivelution who ever said that should go and see a doctor...

  • @Rivelution

jes you right, i agree with you...

only people who know nothing about Race Drivig think today Drivers are Pussys...

In real the Drivers from today would smoke the drivers from the 70s and 80s...

But hey, i can imagine how people think who have no idea about Race Driving.

  • @kallo182 Today's drivers might be faster, but the old ones had certainly more balls than the current ones.

  • @Rivelution Agreed, and if they didnt have modern levels of safety theyd have way more serious accidents then the 80s as well.

  • @Rivelution they did not ruin it technology did

  • @Rivelution u can also thank them for making a heck of a looot safer .. no single fatal incident in more than 16 years ... thats remarkable ... F1 is much more proffessional now and its just as hard for them to drive

  • I mean, you know what happened to henry surtees yesterday - at brands hatch

  • Yes dickhead, I was there and saw it happen. What's your point exactly?

  • Brands Hatch GP circuit is wonderful. Sad not to see more races on it, but at the same time this has saved it from beeing Bernie'ed and Max'ed into a mickey mouse circuit.

  • True enough. I was at Silverstone, watching, when Mansell won there. (The crowd invasion hogged the track for a good 30 mins to an hour after the race.) It was fast, but not dangerously so IMHO, although the runoffs might have used a little more work and the tyre walls didn't absorb quite enough shock. But those would have been minor tweaks. The current track hasn't nearly the atmosphere and has lost some of the WW2 airfield look-and-feel that really defined it.

  • Cool Footage. Thanks for posting!..

  • Yes, this is a practice lap.

It may hurt you, but if Brands Hatch came back into F1, I'm sure Ecclestone and Mosley would have it modified and ruined.

I'm Italian and I do know what I'm saying: do you remember Monza? Once it was the kingdom of speed, while now it's just a special track.

I wann thank SBK championship because they made me discover Brands Hatch and fall in love with this beautiful track.

Brands Hatch is the best track in the world, definitely.

  • It is the best track in the world, and i live 10 minutes away from it :)

  • I'd argue that Monza did need work. Not slowing, because if you have adequate runoff and don't use concrete walls, the speed on the track has little or no bearing on safety. You can have a safe track that is also blindingly fast, but I wouldn't trust either of those to really understand that. Safe also doesn't mean over-safe. Racing should be edgy. Not suicidal, but definitely edgy. The old Nurburgring could even be made safe enough for F1 without changing a single corner or coddling anyone.

  • Bollocks could the Nordschleife be made F1 safe without major alterations. Have you ever driven it at speed?

  • Have you ever driven a Telford-style road at speed? Probably not, as there aren't any left. The point being is that the existing engineering can be replaced by something better so is of no consequence. There is (almost) no problem so great that it cannot be solved or circumvented, if you've the money, the time, the intelligence and the skill. And the willingness to spend all four in very large quantities. Even if your interest is high, if it's not that high, you won't bother.

  • The Nordschleife and then Spa Francorchamps are much better than Brands.

  • I think you mean "were".

  • no, I mean ARE. Whether or not they are current F1 tracks they are still fantastic circuits although the Brands long circuit is a good un.

  • warm up /practice with a large camera on the car.

  • It's a shame they don't run the f-1 at brands hatch anymore....this 1984 shot is what it's all about.

  • Def a warm up lap, you can see the labels on the tyres suggesting theyre brand new, he wasnt going fast as the tyres were prob stone cold.

  • you look at all these f1 onboards its definately practice. are you old enough when this was happening. Look at 0.28 do you think in race a car would be able to get that good a launch any time against mansell with such ease.

  • The whole front end of that car looks so cool from onboard. Nice big, fat slicks. The way it should be!

  • he could have gone a bit faster!

  • i think he is that slow because of the camera which was build onto the car Oo

but im not sure how these cameras looked in 1984

  • surprisingly big and clumsy and not at all streamlined! Oblong metal box, imagine something like a heavy duty security cam. Can't find any pics on the web right now, but I have a book with a nice '85 or '86 zakspeed car w/ cam above the sidepod. Nobody would wanna race with that on, unless they need the money!

  • Probably a practice lap, IE: he's getting a feel for the grip of the track and any slight changes that might have occurred.

  • its black and gold, end of story

  • Bet the next lap was a scorcher!

  • Not in that car, it won't have been!

  • nice videos...bravo..
