Instrumentation makes metal, not the voice. Unless you're looking for certain metal like doom and death metal that require the grunts, INSTRUMENTS ARE WHAT MAKES METAL and NW still has the same instrumentation.
I don't listen death; I heard metal for instrumentation, but for the singer voice too: a songs is instru and voice unity (when there's a singer of course) :)

I will admit there are a few songs that only Tarja can really bring to life, they were composed with her voice in mind etc. etc.
And in my opinion, Sleeping Sun is probably one of them. I will say though, there are quite a few songs that sound BETTER with Anette singing them. I thought NW was cheesy when my friend introduced me to them a few years ago, but after giving them another chance with DPP, I have come to LOVE both old and new NW. NW is about the music, not just who sings the songs.

Tarja sing this song better than Anette. But both are differents. They have a great talent. But I prefer the voice of tarja. She has a beautiful presence in the scene. Nightwish had a better succes with Tarja. But i like Anette^^

For your information, Dark Passion Play made number one album in 6 different countries, an achievement that Nightwish earned in no countries on any of their 5 albums with their previous female vocalist.

I fully agree. I just saw them last night, she doesn't sound right on the old songs, but sounds great with their new music. Tarja was great for the old Nightwish and I think that Anette will be great for the new Nightwish, especially once they have a couple more albums under their belt and no longer need to use Tarja era music in their concerts. Still, Anette did better on Sleeping Sun and Nemo than she did when they performed Dark Chest of Wonders and The Siren.
I agree somewhat with Annette not singing old songs. I think pretty much anything before Century Child should be off limits to Annette because that is when Tuomas wrote songs that took full advantage of Tarja's vocal range. However, as Tuomas has said, he started to do away with writing songs for an operatic voice with Century Child. I actually like Annette singing The Siren much more than Tarja, and Annette sounds really nice on Ever Dream. Oh, and DPP was written before Annette joined the band
I know DPP was written before Anette joined, but it was written for someone without the operatic range of Tarja. Personally, I really like DPP, more so as an entire album than any other of their albums. Still, my favorite songs are still older songs, I just like the new stuff more as a whole. The concert was amazing, I hope to see them again. Truthfully, I like Anette and hope she does well with new Nightwish. I just wish people would realize she is SUPPOSED to REPLACE Tarja, no one can.
I believe she would sound better with the old songs if they were tweaked slightly to allow her voice range to get at it easier. Not so much change the entire song, but just change the key.

Amazing how a small change can alter how people look at things. If Anette was the first singer and sang all those first songs, and then they fired Anette and brought in Tarja then everyone would be saying "We miss Anette! This new singer can't sing any of the old songs!"

Youtube doesn't allow the words I'd choose to describe Anette's singing. It's awful! She destroys this masterpiece with the blink of an eye. I can't stand her singing the old song- and that's not because I can't accept the change in the line up but because she stinks as a Nighwish singer. You can like DPP but how dare they let her sing the old stuff? It's not meant for her- you can hear that! And her pseudo vibrato is rather annoying.

Not bad, but she needs to work on her high notes - she holds back too much. You can hear near the end she drops an octave, which makes me wonder if she needs to do that with many of "old" songs" Tarja was able to belt out.
Well, Tarja did NOT belt them. She used her head voice like 80% of the time. When she had to sing in middle register, she still used her head voice, and only when she had to sing really low notes, she passed to the chest register. Anette only uses her head voice in For the Heart I Once Had and in some parts of Mother & Father. So, practically, she sings in her chest and belting register most of the time.

Tarja USED to be an angelic singer before her voice deteriorated.
Floor Jansen is a great singer! She and Simone Simmons...both have amazing voices...Tarja is not near them...but she's ok...Anette's ok as well just has a bit of pop voice but it fits good new songs but O my god don't give her old Nightwish songs to sing!...

She puts a punkish version on a very simple, poetic sound. She sounds the worst during the chorus. Everything else is fine.
My thoughts are - it's okay, but I always have my original CD. It's great though that Nightwish is not abandoning their old work (esp. from Oceaboarn, which I think is their best work).
Annette fans are surely Lacuna coil fans. lol. People don't hate her because she took Tarja's place. It's because she is common and there isn't anything special about her style. She is too mainstreem and Nightwish use to be unique and great. Tuomas said that they got annette cause she was different from Tarja and more mainstreem so then why the hell does she cover Tarja's songs? She can't do it. She can sing but she doesn't sing great.

I actually like Tarja's singing a lot, but the people like you who worship her as some kind of goddess and resort to berating and insulting Anette are just crossing the line.

For your information, Dark Passion Play made number one album in 6 different countries, an achievement that Nightwish earned in no countries on any of their 5 albums with their previous female vocalist.

I fully agree. I just saw them last night, she doesn't sound right on the old songs, but sounds great with their new music. Tarja was great for the old Nightwish and I think that Anette will be great for the new Nightwish, especially once they have a couple more albums under their belt and no longer need to use Tarja era music in their concerts. Still, Anette did better on Sleeping Sun and Nemo than she did when they performed Dark Chest of Wonders and The Siren.

I agree somewhat with Annette not singing old songs. I think pretty much anything before Century Child should be off limits to Annette because that is when Tuomas wrote songs that took full advantage of Tarja's vocal range. However, as Tuomas has said, he started to do away with writing songs for an operatic voice with Century Child. I actually like Annette singing The Siren much more than Tarja, and Annette sounds really nice on Ever Dream. Oh, and DPP was written before Annette joined the band

I know DPP was written before Anette joined, but it was written for someone without the operatic range of Tarja. Personally, I really like DPP, more so as an entire album than any other of their albums. Still, my favorite songs are still older songs, I just like the new stuff more as a whole. The concert was amazing, I hope to see them again. Truthfully, I like Anette and hope she does well with new Nightwish. I just wish people would realize she is SUPPOSED to REPLACE Tarja, no one can.

The only problem is that everyone got used in Tarja's opera voice, and the old Nightwish kind... My first reaction when I heard Annete was "Is this Nightwish, or WithinTemptation?", but it is OK.
I don't like listening to old Nightwish stuff without a comparable to Tarja's voice. Annete is a good singer but on her kind...Nor should they change their old songs just in order to fit Annete.

Youtube doesn't allow the words I'd choose to describe Anette's singing. It's awful! She destroys this masterpiece with the blink of an eye. I can't stand her singing the old song- and that's not because I can't accept the change in the line up but because she stinks as a Nighwish singer. You can like DPP but how dare they let her sing the old stuff? It's not meant for her- you can hear that! And her pseudo vibrato is rather annoying.
No offens to anyone who likes it but I simply don't!

Well, Tarja did NOT belt them. She used her head voice like 80% of the time. When she had to sing in middle register, she still used her head voice, and only when she had to sing really low notes, she passed to the chest register. Anette only uses her head voice in For the Heart I Once Had and in some parts of Mother & Father. So, practically, she sings in her chest and belting register most of the time.

This is my favourite song by Nightwish.
She puts a punkish version on a very simple, poetic sound. She sounds the worst during the chorus. Everything else is fine.
My thoughts are - it's okay, but I always have my original CD. It's great though that Nightwish is not abandoning their old work (esp. from Oceaboarn, which I think is their best work).

Annette fans are surely Lacuna coil fans. lol. People don't hate her because she took Tarja's place. It's because she is common and there isn't anything special about her style. She is too mainstreem and Nightwish use to be unique and great.
