Hi some very good advice given here. These batts are often found at car bootsales in lanterns recharge car vacs etc. The problem is that these have been left on and the batts have discharged and plates become sulphated, these maybe able to be brought back to life (cheap Chinese batts may not). A much higher voltage maybe needed to breakthrough sulphure keep current low and monitor AT ALL time as it will sudenly increase current then drop to normal charge current you may get it working Take care
Great video! I have a similar 12v SLA battery - a CSB 1234W F2. It's a little different than other similar -looking- SLA's in that, instead of rating it in amp hours, it is rated in watts. 34 watts. No mention of amp hours or c-20 rates or the like. It has two charts, Constant Current Discharge Characteristics (A), and Constant Power Characteristics (W). ex. 34W @ 15 minute-rate to 1.67V per cell @ 25°C. Highest is 90m. Is this no good for slow discharge and meant to "dump" (came from UPS)
I wouldn't worry about the voltage being high in the battery, once you connect to a load you'll probably find it'll drop soon enough.
Also what meter are you using, it could be out of calibration, check it on a few different batteries like a 1.5 cell. 6 volt, 9 volt etc, if they read high too, suspect the meter
Also, yep, i love googlesites, great for documenting and easy to use.
@sparkyprojects Thanks, I have measured the voltage using two separate multimeter's. One of them I got from Maplins (UNI-T) and one of them belongs to a relative (Draper) and both of them read the same voltage.
The charger is a Numax branded 12V 1amp charger that I got for a reduced price from a lead acid battery store near me called "manbat", they have been friendly so far so I think if I ask nicely they might swap it, the only problem is their opening hours are not very convenient for me!
@sparkyprojects It just hit me that AGM type sealed lead acid battery's have a lower self discharge rate so they typically hold a higher voltage when they are fully charged, I feel dumb now!
Thanks Patrick for this well explained and informative video.
I checked my charger and found the charge voltage slightly high so I am going to take it back to my local specialist battery store and see if they will exchange it, as my sealed lead acid battery still reads 13.35V after leaving it for a few days.

I like your Google site btw.
