original version was the malayalam one released 1993 starring mohanlal.....classical dancer shobana essayed this role in malayalam and she was tooooo goood compared to all the other remade versions.....2nd best was Jyothika in tamil....she just attracted everyone with her big sweet eyes....3rd best was the late soundarya who did this role in the kannada remake....then only its vidya balan...

Malayalam version was far better and Shobana is a much more skilled and graceful dancer than Vidya will ever be.
