If anyone wants to see what this bunch looks like 40 years later check out the YouTube vid "The Dillards W/ Maggie Peterson aka The Darlin Boys w/ Charlene "Salty Dog Blues".
Maggie Peterson (Charlene Darling) comes from a touring musical family. She sure fits in tight with these boys. (One of my first young boy 'crushes', and 50 years later she looks better than I do!). A 1 and a 2 and away I go...
THANK YOU for ending this with LEGEND that was Howard Morris doing Ernest T. Bass' recitation of "Old Aunt Mariah"....one of the BEST moments of TV comedy......
Dooley was about a Moonshiner in case y'all don't know. Kinda makes it even better, even with the bass player blowin' a jug and Andy playin a 5 string lol.
@Martaan66 Real name is Denver Pyle. Played Uncle Jesse on The Dukes of Hazzard later. And the group is the Dillards. They were a great and talented bluegrass band of notoriety.
The FBI still has no definitive word on the persistant rumors that Ernest T Bass and Phil Collins are one and the same. Any thoughts? (They have the same hair and teeth...plus both have shaved the backs of their necks real slickity.)
The Dillards were - are - one of the all-time great bluegrass bands. Doug, the banjo player, wrote and performed Duelling Banjo on Deliverance. Charlene's not (just) an actress - she's Maggie Peterson, a great singer.
Up next: "Eatin' Goober Peas"!

It's really not doing anything but humor, although you're correct that it can make a sound and be tuned. Notice they have a bass guitar for the bass.
