1/3 of the Soviet population would be about 50 million people. Add to that world war II (25 million) and you have about half the population dissapearing over 30 years. Which would mean that the population after 1945 should be lower than that in 1925, and that even overestimating the birth rate.

@aaasssfffdddiii Further on, communism cannot be applied revolutionary that should be obvious by now, because the revolutionary approach creates dictatorship as a neccesity (I'm not sure if I spelled that right, english is not my native tongue). Communism is an ideal society in either a commune or a newely introduced state with like-minded people. There has to be no opposition in order for it to work, which means only smaller societies would work.
@rockit353 I agree that Communism cannot work in large societiesm, but it also doesn't work in smaller ones. This "small commune" experiment has been tried. The early pilgrims in America formed a commune in the food market, and nearly all of them starved to death, luckily William Bradford saved them with introducing the free market, and food production went way up.

You condemn communism for killing and yet what does capitalism do? It starves the poor it makes them criminals out of nothing and takes action only when it is almost too late. @aaasssfffdddiii Further on, communism cannot be applied revolutionary that should be obvious by now, because the revolutionary approach creates dictatorship as a neccesity (I'm not sure if I spelled that right, english is not my native tongue). Communism is an ideal society in either a commune or a newely introduced state with like-minded people. There has to be no opposition in order for it to work, which means only smaller societies would work.

@rockit353 I agree that Communism cannot work in large societiesm, but it also doesn't work in smaller ones. This "small commune" experiment has been tried. The early pilgrims in America formed a commune in the food market, and nearly all of them starved to death, luckily William Bradford saved them with introducing the free market, and food production went way up.
And to your first comment, nobody has ever said capitalism is a utopia, in fact it is marxism that claims itself to be a utopia.

And technological advancements in communism take place after the state settles (I mean of course when the social state of a country is stable). Of course opposition to communism comes only from two reasons: either 1. greed (capitalism) or 2. opposition to violonce and repression, to which I add - that is not communism. The "they weren't real communists" argument only appeared after the total collapse -from the inside- of the Soviet bloc in 1989 because its citizens realised just how shitty a system they were living under, and their leaders couldn't hide it any longer.
Before 1989, communists the world over used to praise the Soviet Union as being the perfect model of justice & fairness.
Capitalism isnt perfect, just the most efficient at providing resources because it works WITH human nature, not against it.

He killed around 20 millions in the purges & famines. I have never heard an estimate of 1/3rd and suspect it is not true, [even if you factor in all the Russian dead of WW2, which is absurd since they were fighting a defensive war having been invaded].
Stalin was a massive tyrant, whose legacy, [Putin], still haunts Russia to this day. The really interesting question is whether any other Russian leader could have prepared the country in 23 years to survive the Nazi invasion EXCEPT for Stalin.

Other nations have tried socialism, communism, and fascism. They failed. The Soviet Union survived into the 80's on the generosity of the US and its grain shipments. Kuwait was liberated by an overwhelmingly large US force. US humanitarian aid dwarfs all humanitarian aid from all other nations. Capitalism gives a man the ability to make something of his life based on what he wants to do, and how hard he wants to work. Socialism, communism, and all other systems are corrupt at the core.

somehow i only understood one argument that you made and that is that "communism kills people" and for that i have one thing: Communism doesn't kill people people do and not only communist countries do that for instance hitler wasn't a communist he hated communism and declared it his foe.
sorry but if you want to get me to think communism sucks you have to do two things.
one: talk about communism not about stalinism which is something completely different.

Stalin was the leader of the communist movement for 30 years. You can't separate the two. And although communism per se doesn't kill, communists seem to have a propensity for settling disputes with a bullet. Is it just a coincidence that everytime the disciples of Marx have gained power the result has been a totalitarian hellhole?

i dont know why Stalin is shown here, ok yes he was the ruler in the Soviet Union....But Stalin was a traitor to the socialist ideal, he collaborated with hitler before he collaborated with the capitlaist allies....So yeah Stalin was a TRAITOR!!!! Not a communist.

yeah, Gorby was a red, too. He just had the bad luck to be in charge when the house of cards came crashing down. But Stalin was the real deal, a Bolshevik. He collectivized the farms and starved millions, every peasant with enough to eat was called a kulak and sent to the camps (if he was lucky). After all, what's a few million lives compared to establishing a glorious red utopia. Too bad they all didn't end up like Ceausescu.

i live in bosnia(former yugoslavia) and it was great while the communist party ruled...now nationalist party rules and everyone ecept politicians are poor.....imagine we have 3 presidents and they all are corrupted and stealing money as well 2 prime ministers and everyone involved in politics are corrupted...damn that sux...

First of all, people don't understand TRUE Communism. America did not fight against Communism, as much as they like to say it. They fought a country that was really, stronger than it millitaristically and the US knew they couldnt compete with. Communism is really, true democracy.
a lot of these quotes are stupid to put up here. Marx' opium, religion quote is true! Religion is clearly not true, yet people rely on it as a crutch for their ignorance.

The idea of communism is the most perfect form of government. It is flawless. The only drawback lies in humanity. Humans, by nature, are flawed, and a flawless system will not work. Capitalism allows us the ability to make something of ourselves. We count. In communism, you are only as valuable as your contribution to the state. THAT makes communism worthless.

Free market capitalism is the least humanistic economic structure ever. How about you read Marx, how about you read Luxemburg, the ideas they bring forth are for freedom and equality. Freedom from oppression by the by the Bourgeois, freedom to live a real life. Without economic equality, political equality can not exist.
