  • I worked at the Best Buy in Cary NC back in 2000. Before I got fired the original GS was called the Tech Bench. They were some serious guys who never did the shit that the GS does. I need to start my own repair business. I won't charge for looking at it. And I think that's how it should be if you bring it to my store. GS is a fraud.

  • Geek squad is complete garbage. I have had friends bring their comps to geeksquad and it comes back worse off than before. They even told my friend his Motherboard was bloawn and all it was was a sound card driver. Guess what I can fix what geeksquad can't ususally in about 5-20 minutes. And if it is an os reinstall it shouldnt take more than 3 or 4 hours to reinstall and put all your stuff back on. NEVER GO TO GEEKSQUAD NEVER NEVER!!! NEVER

  • A good idea of what's going on. Unfortunately there are some locations who have more issues than others. Those automated calls r bullshit and turn times do get misquoted due to lack of knowledge or laziness on people's part to check proper turn times. Hope your laptop is back up and running.

We hook up your computer to someone online and we never do any work? No. Sonstop generalizing the whole company. When you picked it up and you had a virus, that means your old data had viruses on it which was transferred. Not their fault. Your CD drive wasn't reading after you reinstalled your OS? Next time install the drivers.

  • If turning off automatic updates and doing a system restore took you hours then you really need help from Geek Squad. Who the hell needs updates? You and everyone else using Windows. No warranty from any manufacturer will cover software. Your DVD player stops working? You watch DVDs at work? Must be nice... Most likely that's a hardware problem you should take up with Dell. Best Buy is a vendor and did not manufacture your laptop.

A computer repair should never take mor than one day unless you have to special order parts wich is unusual, unless its a really old computer. And geek squad doesnt even have OEM versions to reinstall microsoft they want you to buy one thats crap i fix computers and any legitiment company should have OEM which comes with any computer you buy at a store.

When you're writing your romance novels, your sausage fingers will mash multiple keys, prompting multiple Windows to pop up (basically your computer is trying to call for help). The second problem is a blue screen when you do updates. "Who needs fucking updates?" right? You do, dipshit. Don't update and watch how fast you get fucked in the ass by some virus.   • 1. The dell studio series is terrible terrible laptop, you should have done your homework before buying.

    2. Ship it back to the manufacturer yourself, it saves a ton of time over taking it to GS to ship it off, you can ship it YOURSELF for under 20$.

    3. You shouldn't watch DVD's @ work, if you actually... worked at work perhaps your head would not be so fat.

  • @pikkelweezel I also have a similar incident that happens with our PC. Its an ASUS CM 5675 it still under warranty. It took them 2 weeks to repair but, When I was about to pick up my PC I noticed that the frony bezel on the top righht corner of the PC case is broken. That's hoe imcopetent pretending to be GeekSquad technicians. I waited again for another 1 month for them to fix but had happen. So I told them to fix it and give them an ultimatum or I will file a complaint to Consumer Affairs.

  • The keyboard, I will possibly give you that. Keyboards can be defective out of the box, they are the most simplistic portion of a laptop as its a simple I/O Device that has been around since the creation of the personal computer. But that necessarily doesn't mean YOU didn't do something to it. ie. spilled something on it. The Agents in store are all A+ Certified Technicians. That means WE MUST PASS A MINIMUM EDUCATION TEST to be certified to do warranty based work for any manufacture.

But one thing is that if the keyboard was bad, and he had a bestbuy GSBTP (warranty), he could order a new one from calling bestbuy corporate for free. however if he had a manufactor warranty, then he would have to call dell and see if they covered it. sometimes they dont. and as far as viruses. If they did a destructive restore, then he def shouldnt have any viruses on there. and if a backup was done, they should have scanned for viruses. not sure on the whole sceneri

And this situation would have been taken care of in 2 days. max of 3 days. and would have only been charged 230. even when a person comes from another store cause they messed up, we fix the issue right away. we even have an overall turn around time of 1.3 days. yes 1.3!!! and we are not a small store.   • One, Im not sure why he paid 300. if he had a warranty witht he restore and backup he should have paid a max of 230. And yes there are agents who don't know much. I have a met a few. But there are stores that know a great deal. the wrong was the turn around time. The max should have really been 3 days and I mean max. maybe 4 if they were pushing it like crazy. He did get screwed a lil. He should of gotten some compensation atleast for the trouble. Like a refund of a portion. But GS isnt bad.

  • I am a former GS person. The sad part is that some GS precincts are exactly the way this guy has laid them out to be. The good technicians realize they are grossly underpaid (8-10/hr depending on location) and either A - leave or B - become management. The smart ones leave on to a real IT job where a baseline technician would make more than a GS Assistance Supervisor. Hope you got a refund.

  • Hey man, im sorry you had such problems... if your interested i would suggest using Ubuntu, check out my channel on how to install it and how it works... Windows has a problem, and its the actual existence of it. And geek squad relies on advertising, not real computer expertise... you should try out Ubuntu man.. its faster, no viruses, no blue screen of death, no random windows popping up... etc. It takes small amounts of computer know how to install it (less than geek squad)

They accepted responsibility because they approved GS to do the warranty work. You don't replace a laptop free of charge because of a "user caused" problem you idiot. Dell acknowledged the laptop was ruined due to "GS caused" problems and did the right thing by replacing it.

  • @pikkelweezel Beyond that, the issue you were having with you are having form your DVD Drive can be either Hardware or Software. Obviously by the Agents at your local Geek Squad Precinct reloading your OS. The issue was clearly an OS and SOFTWARE issue. This is generally associated with the Upper and Lower filter set in your Registry. Also be "Diligent" with your AV, SW, MW, and AW protection doesn't mean anything. You will never have 100% protection from malicious software.

As far as the keyboard they should have sent that out to service and the dvd drive was software and we do that in store. But as far as remotely AJU only a small amout of units get service by them and its only virus related. BTW im a manger at one of the biggest stores in NY.
