imo, D&D loses it's appeal and meaning when the means of gaming expression (miniatures, scenery, map tiles etc) start to create constraints to imaginative possibilities of the game... Which this thingo seems to do spectacularly.
Looks like a great gadget, but all I see is Dungeons & Dragons moving closer and closer to an MMO.
It's neat and all, but it really loses the charm when it goes digital. As a DM, It just feels so great to give life to a piss-poor drawing of an area. I'm not totally against this, as it is really amazing, but it's just not the same.
OMG!!! These peeps are developing next gen tabletopping before our very eyes!!! I would gladly bay $1,000 for this piece of badassedness.
Suggestion to the devs though.. offer it in a couple sizes, seemed kind of crowded for the 4 player scenario, a little more space would be nice, especially if your running a 5 or 6 person party.
Somebody better buy this, and put some serious effort, and cash into it's dev. This could be really awesome, so long as they don't just screw it up!!!
it looks awesome but from what i can see here it's really slow paced (or that could be the people who are playing the game) but bottom line is that pen & paper, actual dice, a grid board, dry erase markers and figurines will always give you a much more involved feeling... at least that's how it is for me.
@klingerman11 I think that having somthing like this on pc with voice chat and virtual figures and virtual dice would be great for online play.... imagine it, playing real DnD online not a video game variation.
i agree

Yeah but it's way more accessible for new players. I personally like that you actually use real figures :)

I'm simultaniously interested and repulsed. It's an astounding peice of technology but it feels sort of sacrilegious.
