In historic restoration it is often desirable to preserve as much of the original structure as possible. Also, It is often more difficult to replace the piece of wood than repair it, and, new wood is rarely of the same quality as the original, often old-growth, wood that the structure was built from. Wider growth rings, with less resinous wood, lead to much faster rot of new wood.
Am I the only one thinking that it would be easier, quicker and cheaper to just replace the old rotten wood with a new piece of wood? this stuff would probably be good for wood that is hard to replace or that has small defects, but the example they give in this video seems like major hassle to repair using woodepox/liquid wood IMO.
The liquid wood prevents future rotting in the old wood because it seals it. The advantage of woodEpox is that is does not rot in the future. For small repairs it is cheaper and faster then replacing wood.
Couldn't find this at Lowe's or Home Depot... are they there, but we can't find them?
