@SteeleB That's not quite the point. The point is, the ads appear to be basing a wife's competence and worth on her ability to make a cup of coffee. It's making the wife seem more like a maid than a spouse. And honestly I think some the comments these husbands made were pretty passive-aggressive and dickish. I wouldn't like to get those kinds of comments from anyone, regardless of gender.

tl;dr It's not an issue of straight-forwardness so much as how the message was delivered.
