  • I cried the day he got shot by his father. One of the worst days in my life. I remember exactly where I was at only a few months moved out of Motown.

  • How in the world could anybody not like this? Marvin gaye is an icon and his music was masterful

  • Love you forever Marvin.

  • A visonary in the truest sense of the word.

  • In 1971 there were many great albums. This album is so beautiful. Led Zeppelin IV was an epic album but this album was MONUMENTAL. Zep was doing their thing but Marvin Gaye put out an incredible album quietly. He is to be awarded for that. I love this song and this album.

  • B E A U T I F U L..

  • Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • thanks for this post reminding me how much of a gem marvin gaye was with his music

  • Prachtig! bijna 40 jaar oud en zo actueel.

  • Just to keep you satisfied - my fav song of all time. If I only got to take one album to heaven it would be "Whats going on"

  • marvin gaye was before my time im a 92 baby but one day i got bored and start listening to my dads cds nd thats when i fell in love with marvin gaye nd old skool period im the only one at skool with mercy me ring tone they think im an old lady..lol

  • Don't worry what people think. Just remember that Great Music stands the test of time.

  • Love you Marvin!! Still miss you :)

  • Five Stars. Still an amazing song by Marvin Gaye. And your video is timely and well done. Thanks. -- DP

  • his voice is timeless. it's so controlled, calm, yet gripping and as powerful as a louder singer, it pulls you in like a current. imo the most seductive voice i have ever heard, and i don't mean that in a gay way for all those close minded people on here.lol. gifted talent, marvin gaye was. just brilliant...

  • I remember riding in the car as a teenager with my grandmother, aunt, and cousin when they announced on the radio that Marvin had been shot by his father. My aunt was trippin and now I see why!!! Marvin was special; real special.

  • one of the greats and one of the great records of out time . r.i.p. marvin

  • I'm still in love with this beautiful, artistic, but troubled man.

  • Lou Rawls as gifted as he was stayed pretty much away from politics. Marvin delved right in there.

  • This song is soooo appropriate!

Especially now! Not only the seas full of mercury, so are the vaccines they give us!

I lOVE it! This song has always been one of my all time favs!

  • le top

  • 1970

  • this is ma song hayyyyyyyyyyy

  • your point?

  • sem palavras este cara eh foda

  • Essa musica nos faz pensar, nos faz sentir vivos.

  • Love this song...but dislike the very weak last few notes...Marvin was The Man and so glad that the young uns are listening to his wonderfilled lyrics. No wonder he was so sad and on to drugs, life must've have been even worse for African Americans back then...there must have seemed little way out...Wake Up Everybody! We can do it together. Create a world of Peace.

  • Weak notes. WOW. Everything Marvin did in this MASTERPIECE was for a reason. How sad and disappointed he was that he got beaten out by Lou Rawls for the Grammy this year...he truly should have won for the album of timeless sheer genius. Life is hard for so many folks--period. Marvin was speaking of human-kind. And peace will come one day, but certainly not through man's hands. Keep listening and loving, folks. And if you don't have the What's Going On CD, GET it. It's awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm 23 and i got it. what a great record

  • Is there a video of him singing this live?

  • Heartfelt....

  • the amazing thing about this incredible talented charismatic man is he wrote this song over 20 years ago and things have only got worse. marvin gaye is one of the greatest american artists ever upp there with satchmo robeson dizzy steve jimmy etc etc and all the african american people who we white people owe so much to economically culturally and inspirationally.

  • MEMORABLE E INOLVIDABLE

  • white dude chillin here...this man makes me think.....I was MEAN to a person today...Im sorry...Im so sorry...we have to be good to people

  • What difference does it make that you'r white???

  • RemeberLoughall, if this doesnt sound like Marvin, like who does that sound then ? whos that great voice ?

  • bonjour ta la classe marving te le meilleur tony

  • yassssssssss

  • marvin gaye un maestro un artista un visionario. amor para todo el mundo ese era el mensaje no?

  • Marvin Gaye was a visonary. Everything he sings about is occurring now. Brilliant man he was!

  • the album "whats going on" was released in 1971/72. marvin warned us all of the dangers, drugs, war, crazy politics and the environment. this album is just as relevant today. we dont seem to have learnt much in 35 years.

i think everyone on earth should listen to this album, especially our "leaders". a great message aswell as beautiful music and an incredible voice.

the greatest soul artist of all time.

  • I saw Smokey Robinson on a religious station & he said that this is the most spiritual album he has ever heard. He may have been a rock or soul singer, but this album has been an inspiration to many. Relevant? Amen. We doom ourselves by the choices we make. I Samuel 8:18 says:

"And ye shall cry out in that day because of

    your king, which YE shall have chosen you;

and the Lord shall not hear you in that day."

Make good choices. We will reap what we sow. Choose peace.

  • The greatest vocalist ever. Peerless.

  • It is not a stretch to call Marvin a genius - he had a vision and made this album despite criticism - he knew it was a masterpiece. I admit that the word is used too much but Marvin Gaye was one of the best singer / song-writers ever.

  • Marvin was pure genius. This album was flawless.

  • legand ... x

  • Marvin Gaye was a genius! He was ahead of his time and of his time. Its a shame he didn't have the support for his talent.

  • God gave us a handsome soul brother that wasn't commericial, fake, or phony. Just a tremendous gifted musician, his artistic statements and visionary mind made him a genuis.

  • You can say that again!!!

  • killed by his own just about shows . such a shame

  • i like that picture

  • Is that a picture of Marvin? It looks like spike lee.

  • ahaha.....no it doesnt

  • THE ONE AND ONLY MARVIN GAYE

  • LEGEND (no more needs to be said0

  • the greatest soul singer

  • luv u marvin.

  • Died at the hands of the man who created him, he is a legend.

  • A terrible tragedy.

  • he was lik i brought u into this world n i can take u out. which he did but why a legend?!

  • sure u do, i jus type like dat cuz its how i type faster. 2 communicate, it would b different in English class. so chill out

  • chill out song!

  • When I looked at this picture of Marvin and listen to the song playing it made my heart feel so good. Thank you for posting this video.

  • legend has it ... god wrote this through him.....so says smokey robinson........

Marvin your songs live on and on and on...

  • god didn't wrote this song through him, it's his own talent that wrote it. Marvin was, is, and always will be a pure genius!

  • well that's why i said legend has it... anyway who are we to say where god was at the time.

  • oh ok sorry :)

it's too sad that Marvin is dead..

  • God given talent. Without God there would be no Marvin. And don't exagerate. Marvin was good, but genius? People throw that word around too much.

  • How sad is to loose great artist like these even thou I'wasn't around, his BEAUTIFUL VOICE WILL REMAIN 4 EVER. I KNOW U IN HEAVEN.

LOVE U 4 LIFE. BABY GIRL MORY. 2007 N BEYOND

  • if u want to save time by typin less at least spell "lose" right.. it uses less letters even.

  • If you want to use proper English you could say, "It even uses less letters". But you actually stated that twice since you implied it in the first sentence. However, I'm sure you know that. Sorry, I know it sounds condescending. Oh well.

  • Top man

    Believe : ]

  • This is my 2nd favorite Marvin Gaye song. This is a classic. Marvin is a legendary crooner. RIP.

  • thanks to thabiti anyabwile for mentioning this during the sermon today at chbc~

  • xxxx

  • The most beautiful man.

Alcoholism, envy and hate put this man of understanding to rest. What a surprise.

Marvin Bless up! Walk with us.

  • An amazing man and a very sad loss to us all I miss you so much My favorite singer alongside Otis

Gives me goose bumps everytime i hear your voice

  • ahead of his time, I consider him alongside the great artists/activist like Bob Marley and John Lennon.

  • Holy. Thank you mate ;)

  • Anybody here know this song came out in 1971 and, also, at the end of the song, there was a sax solo by the late, great Wild Bill Moore! This song dealt a lot with life's problems and how the world & ecology was back in '71!

  • rest in peace my brother ''marvin gaye''

  • for all 2pac fans who ain't knowing that 2pac followed marvin gaye's steps when it came down to politics, racism, and police brutality now you know!!! but i've always wanted to be like marvin instead of pac because this man here was the smartest around to know more about all the hatred and poverty in this fucked up world.

  • The people really dont understand or acknowledge how talented and awesome Marvin Gaye was and he is truly missed because this type of talent doesn't just stop by everyday. This comes once in a lifetime. His talent is so real as his spirit will live forever in all of us who are touched by his music in our hearts and soul. Thanks Marvin for sharing this talent that God gave you that's still here even though you're gone it will forever live in all of us.

  • Marvin, thanks for the spiritual music. You've carried us with your music for decades and will continue to do so for much longer.
