@SPIRITAIR1 As far as I know they are still buying Mack's. I know they were testing some CCC hybrids and some Mack hybrids, but I don't know if they decided which ones they want to buy in the future. I know I've seen many new Heil's and some new McNeilus trucks also.
I'm hoping they'll be switching back to CCC like they are for those newer biodiesel trucks they got. I must say though, that LE cab does look nice...what's the normal configuration for the doors? I'm having trouble remembering lol! Does it just fold back and up like Autocars do? Never would've known their style was custom!
Also, do you know when DSNY got rid of these trucks?
One last (random) question...what editing program do you use? Thanks for sharing--neat to see this for a CA guy :D
@Trashman242 Dejuan told me about an LEU he saw the other day, and I begged him to get some footage of the interior for you.. .but the truck was locked up. BUT today there was another one, and it was unlocked so I think he said he got a walkaround of it and filmed the interior so you can see it.
The DSNY truck in this video is a 2000 model I believe. DSNY sells dozens of these every month and buy just as many to replace them (I think they sell when the trucks are 8-9 y/o).
@FormerWMDriver AND all my newer vids are made with Windows 7 - Windows Live Movie Maker and can be saved in 1080p format even though my camera is NOT able to make HD vids.
The doors on the LE are almost exactly like the WXLL. But also have the option of being regular like on an MR... but with that config both sides are sit down... the folding door model is standup RH. That's what makes these trucks unique, sit-down on both sides with CCC style forward folding doors on both sides.
@FormerWMDriver Interesting!! Thanks for all the info! I was wondering about the editing program (for one reason) because the titles look really clear, mine don't always come out that way and I use a program outside of Microsoft's!
@TheWMfan It's a safety issue from what I understand... at some point in the past couple of years they started torching off all the riding steps and the new trucks are ordered without them.
Another nice walkaround you got, pretty cool to see a close-up of these oldies. Find it interesting about how they customise their trucks, but guess they have the money to do that! =] Cool to see the packer cylinder and that connecting rod usually hidden behind that panel and awesome shot of the ejector - noticed there is a guide rail on the roof of the body. Great work / 5 stars
@MitchellM15 Thank you very much... I have another pic on Flickr of a Heil Formula 5000 tailgate with the access doors open and it is shot from a distance so you can see it clearly... I think I'll send it to you over there.
Do you know if these trucks are for sale more as parts trucks or are most of them still usable? This one looks like it could use some TLC but otherwise it could probably be used in service again.
@trashratt Yeah I was looking at the NYC surplus website, and I saw dozens of them up for sale monthly. Only major catch, you are NOT allowed to drive anything off the lot, it all must be towed or hauled away. I'll have to look and see if that's the same site I saw.
I also believe that a large # of Heil 40/60 split RLs are working more on the western side of LINY for 2 stream & the rest of them are doing 1stream & trash in the Midwest somewhere. Great Walkthough, 5 Stars, btw! 1 day when I visit that side of LINY where I lived, I will track these RLs down & get some them in action!!!
A lot of these old LE/5000 RLs hv been replaced by a large # of new LEU/5000 Durapack RLs as I seen from another users post! I strongly believe that a large # of these ex-DSNYs are working in LINY & believe they're in plow duty on the western side of LI where I lived! I know this cause I seen a few there before I left NY!
@wastemanagementsucks Yeah, I took a TON of pictures up there. They are all on Flickr including the Pete 310 / Pak-Mor FL that you saw in the video. I can send you a link to the pics of that truck if you'd like?
why did they stop using macks, mack are amazing and the formula 5000 was the best of its kind for the city why aren't they using them anymore?

@TheTransitCamera These are for sale. I don't remember the exact price, but if you go to Tom's Truck Sales online they have them listed.
