PJCOAN: This song was not written for Judy. Fred Astaire sings it in The Bandwagon in 1953. Judy did sing it in I Could Go On Singing, but it did not originate there. Oh, and by the way, Judy did lip synch now and then on her show, especially if it was a complicated number with dancing. It is well documented in several books by people who were there. She is definitely NOT doing it here however.

Wow, I haven't heard this song since I was about 5, I freaking love the words, and of course she always had such a cool voice. I like that her voice was a little lower as compared to other popular singers of her time, she had so much power in her singing.

The only numbers that she lip-synced on the show were the big opening numbers where it would have been imposible to get a good quality sound with all the moving about (and it wouldn't work with a handheld mic). Very little was pre-recorded and it was only for technical reasons they did it. She NEVER lip-synced in concerts... NEVER.

IF there was a minor flub in the lyric and she kept going with the song, the mistake could be fixed after taping by deleting the sound..such as at 3:11-3;13. IF the flub was more noticeable, she would stop song and start over. Show on a tight budget, so preferable to fix the small mistakes vs time/cost of do-over

To: Betty89w it was MGM who made her addicted to those damn pills. Judy didn't just start taking them. She was forced by the Studio system of the 1930's. MGM should make a public apology to Judy children Liza, Lorna, and Joe and to her fans for making her take those pills. Judy would have lived a much longer life without those pills. However she had been on some other form of pep pill from the time that she started Vaudeville, that was all thanks to Mommy Gumm, Ethel. judy's life was not "tragic". Yes, she had problems in her life (a lot of people do) but her life was out there in the public domain for everybody else (including us!) to comment on. In fact judy had an amazing take on life and the difficult times she went through: She was ,in my opinion, a one-off.
