    Wonderful song!

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    (1) Why do we love flying?

    (2) Why do flying is so elegent and amazing that we write so many songs about it, including this song?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • the flying, in my opinion, is a symbol of the wish of success of the human spirit over the pain, the boredom and the death. When you live your dairy life,, you are using the experiencie, it is great, but is very slow, and then, we can sey that you´re waliking; but, When you use your imagination for to create the individual that you want to be (original and fully of fredom) you are using the imagination, and then, we can say you fliying.

  • The divine comedy is one of those bands that can properly change your mood

  • The way that this follows on from "Ten Minutes To Midnight" on the album takes you from subdued introspection to absolute exhiliration.Thank you Mr H ,my life would be less joyous without your genius in it!

  • 7 people missed the like button >=C

  • On Youtube?

  • Welcome to the future!

  • Did everyone else find this song through Dermot O Leary's wiki biography just like me lol?

  • not sure that's exactly true... if it was written by the band's frontman, as claimed on wikipedia, he's still alive, and the only one with the band all the way through.

  • no the person who originally wrote this

  • Neil Hannon wrote this. He is very much alive. New album is on it's way (hopefully).

  • I would like to have this song played at my Funeral.

  • Me to! Hope we don't get buried in the same place and day.... God bless!

  • Dermot O Leary would like the same thing.

  • thats what Dermot O'Leary said too ;) Great tune

  • ...so would Dermot O'Leary according to his Wikipedia biography, which is why I'm looking the song up.

  • same way I found the song. a beautiful song too.

  • i just found out about this band! i love it! can someone please tell me their best album so i can buy it?

  • my personal favourite album is 'Absent friends.'

  • 'Promenade' is probably your best bet, it's a beautiful album & my personal favourite. Most likely find it on ebay though.

  • 'Fin de Siecle' is their most complete album in my opinion.

  • Fin is great, actually. It's a cracking album.

  • If heaven doesn't exist,

    What will we have missed?

This life is the best we've ever had!

    beautifully right...

  • Great video and awesome song <##

  • My 2 1/2 year old son and I love Neil Hannon's Singing! All Hail the Divine Comedy!

  • Actually, I've always been unable to choose between Classical music and Pop Music... then I've finally found the perfect combination. That's a wonderful present for my 20th birthday.

  • I'm discovering Neil Hannon's world. I just love many of the songs I've heard until now. That one is awesome !!! Thanks Mr Hannon :) GREAT SONG !

  • This is a really great song which should be much better known. i only discovered it by chance because it is used as theme music on the new French movie channel in England. i hope it spurs more success for the band.

  • Is it bad that this song makes me cry?

    It's happy crying though...

  • All Hail The Devine Comedy!

  • Divine...lol

  • the best band ever anyone got through a long and sleepless night by them cause if you do i so want to have that on my playlist

  • I Love The Devine Comedy! Niel Hannon please keep giving us great singing. ^_^

  • Love it

  • OWNAGE 1 of my favs ever

  • You're driving on the wrong side of the road!! (heh, heh).

According to Niel Hannon, Nyman was a huge influence on this song and on the Promenade LP.

In my opinion this is the best Divine Comedy song. Hannon is and always will be a genius talent.

"This life is the best we'll ever have"

    Bones festes a tothom!

  • lol @ Speedbump at 2:28

  • Iggy was good ...but not as good as this!

Surprising how many people get the sadness behind this essentially uplifting song!

  • awesome song. makes me cry even if the text is not that sad. Don't know why =/

  • there is something profoundly sad about this song, but it is so beautiful. Reminds me of Michael Nyman's work.

  • I know what you mean, but then, Neil Hannon's lyrics tend to have a tint of tragic behind them, even when they're not relatively depressing. Most specifically in this one:

    'Looking into all your lives

    And wondering why

Happiness is so hard to find'

  • He just seems able to put emotion into anything. Some of his work is purely joyous, others like this fit dreamy, beautiful lyrics over a well driven bass line, making such a contrast it hammers a nail into your emotions, but in such a delicate way you enjoy it (confusing expression I know)

Best way to describe Neil Hannon's music is to say Pure Untouchable Genius. Genius in its true sense, not in the way they use it to describe sportsmen/women!!

  • I would have to agree with his being a musical genius in that his work does move you emotionally in such degrees from song to song. One will make you smile and laugh, another will bring you to tears. One will relax, while another will make you philosophical.

Such an excellent song, perhaps THE best song ever to grace the end of an album.

  • I agree, it is perhaps the best song to end an album with, at least, I can't think of a better track by any other band. (Not at the moment, plus I am a little biased)

Try listening to "When the lights go out all over europe" on the Promenade album - its another cool track, and its track seven on the album.

  • Neil has always cited Nyman as a influence; in fact he once handed him a copy of Promenade and said "please don't sue me", apparently. I saw them do a gig togehter in the Edinburgh Fringe back in 1998, and yes they did this track!

  • thank you so much for this song. It reminds me of my dad.

  • neil hannon es un genio

  • It has odd measures at some of the 8th bar. Anyone has a transcription/score? I had to put 2/4 on (almost) every 8th bar. There must be a better solution... or I must be really confused.

  • beats me... maybe the piece is in 2/4? Musicality here you don't hear from your average run of the mill pop band...

  • Sin duda uno de los temas de mi vida. No puedo remediar sentir el latido del compás inundar mis sentidos. Gracias Divine Comedy.

  • joder, me emociono con este tema cada vez que lo escucho!!!

  • My crazy maths teacher played liek the first minute of this constantly in our lesson!

  • vaya temazo coño!!!

  • i have the song of this but with eletric violins if you would care to look?

  • yes please can you sent it to me at ajnegubimise (at) hotmail (dot) com

  • me he qedado 2 minutos y 59 segundos atrapada
