Attempting to speak rationally about God is pointless, whether you affirm or deny his existance. Theists and Atheists alike are victims of delusion. Truly, the only rational approach to God is agnosticism (i.e. "I have no idea").
God is the sound of one hand clapping and the empty space between an inhalation and an exhalation. God is the uncaused first cause of universal existence. These are not concepts appropriate for rational discourse.
Beyond that, there is no accounting for faith.

If what you are saying is "we don't know" then you are incorrect in self-identifying as an "atheist" (i.e. denial of the possibility of a "theistic" being).
You are taking the "agnostic" position (i.e. knowledge and understanding of a transcendant being is unknowable to beings which are not, themselves, transcendant).
Your opening comment ("I am an atheist") is what really where my criticism was aimed. I was, after all, paying attention.

Regarding nihilism, I wonder if you truly believe that "nothing means anything" or whether or not you believe in the absence of "objective truth?" The former is an intellectual pitfall; the latter is (once again) a statement of rational agnosticism.

when i described this to a freind he said it as nihilistic. 1 we cant prove anything besides we ourselves exsist i cant prove you have a life if my senses arent attached to you in some way i could have invented you in my head. and the objective truth thing if you mean there is no such thing as true or false thats quite possible and i think about it alot but i have a quite intelligent freind who says im more of a nihilist so i dont question him. i just kindof think n dont really worry bout labels

I don't think you are a nihilist. On the contrary, you seem to have a lot of faith in your senses and capacity for reason. If anything, far from nihilation the possibility of meaning, you suggest that faith should be subordinated to reason. That's humanist idealism 101.

i understand that there is a chance that i'm wrong. and i agree that people tend to lose sight of the fact that believing in god is supposed to be a comfort instead of a competition with other religions to see who's right. but i also think its wrong to spit on people's beliefs because you don't agree. i've seen my grandmother die, literally die, and wake up because of prayer. so yes, i do have faith that god is real even though i may not fully understand it. because that's the meaning of faith.

the prayer can be covered by somethign called riki as i explained healing energy and then theres idk coincidence i died becasue of morphine overdose after surgery and no one prayed and i woke up because tehy slapped meand if u werent aware its humanly possible to go into deep enough of a coma that the machines cant pick up your life lines

my grandmother wasn't in the hospital when it happened. we were driving on our way to canada. her face twisted up, she went cold, and my uncle (who's a doctor) pronounced her dead. at first i thought that maybe she had a stroke, so i went to where she was sitting and saw her. she wasn't breathing, she was extremely cold, and this lasted for about 4 minutes. my aunt began to pray and so did my father. eventually she woke up. there was no slap or push, just prayer. to me, that's a miracle.

thats a pretty regular occurence and u dont go cold from death for an hour or so i mean if u die with a hard on it stays up for four hours electrical charges int eh brain after death take a few days to dissapate my grandma fell off a bus and died for 15 minutes so wut

you said that christians think that everyone should convert to christ but that its impossible to do so if you've never heard of him. the bible explains that if you're in that situation, then you cannot be held accountable.
sure, we dont know whether or not god is real and the only way to truly see is to die. but that's what faith (not religion) is all about. believing in something even though you may be wrong.

also, 'psychosomatic' doesn't mean that if you believe something it will happen. in psychology, psychosomatic is used in reference to mental illnesses or disturbances that may manifest itself through physical symptoms. for example, some poeple that are depressed may have body aches. people can even die from broken hearts. however, they usually dont know that their depression is the cause. so it isn't because they believe that their emotional distress will cause physical pain. its irrelevant.

i was always fascinated by Karl Marx's take on religion. "religion is an expression of material realities and economic injustice. Thus, problems in religion are ultimately problems in society. Religion is not the disease, but merely a symptom. It is used by oppressors to make people feel better about the distress they experience due to being poor and exploited. religion is the "opium of the masses"
