well it really depends on the player i prefer thinner picks myself like and i would never even touch a 4mm that would make me feel like im playing with a poker chip or something
yeah the type of the player usually sets the pic but the for metalcore onwards heavier pics help with the palm muted down picking beacause they dont bend thus making the sound clearer and helping you release the string quicker
He's probably using Hard Picks because i cant hear tht annoying pick flap that much. you get the pick flap when you try to play thrash on thin picks. Me I perfer hard picks because like alot of the people on here are sayin its faster picking. I use whats called Ice Pix They're cold rolled steel picks. Although they do tear up your strings a bit they give your playing a different sound.

steel picks?looks cool, even using thicker ones my picks always loose the tip after 2 weeks (i pratice about 1 hour every day)
