I thought the boy did fine - the filming left.... Something to be desired. I couldn't see a lot of what was going on becasue is it was aimed at the back drop. I'd suggest perhaps getting one close up and then filming the entire dance, so that we can see all of it. Great job otherwise!
-sigh- That is waaaay off of what Herod should have been. As Cheshire said, the character is meant to show power and authority rather than a foppish attitude reminiscent of some Fab reject. Oh, and he smiled... WAY too much.
dude, you're supposed to smile on stage. It also helps your tone when you smile when you sing. Its a proven fact. Also most theatre companies dont want the actors just to imitate other actors who did it, anyone coudl do that. You gotta create your own interpretation of the character, this is how this kid intpreted and it aint bad,
Incidentally, go back to the source material - the original cast recording - and listen to the portrayal of Herod. He finds it all amusing and triffling, but at the same time contemptable, and as Jesus refuses to indulge him, Herod's vehemence and animosity grows and seethes, to the point where he is violently shouting at Christ by the song's end.
The singer had plenty of passion, but made one key miscalculation. Herod may have been a dandy or playboy (or can be portrayed well as one) but he wasn't a fop, or someone you'd want to bitchslap. If you want to play him flaming, fine, but do it Frankenfurter style. Herod is a powerful and contemptuous predator.
Did the Herod in this video, not realise the song is sposed to be funny? All the humor was taken out..and we are left with just a boring Herod that acts like some kind of pedophile. It's sposed to be the comic relief of the show.
I'd like to bend that "Jesus" over and have my way with him

The costume is like perfect and the girls around him are nice, but this guy's fairly dreadful.
No. Just... No.

This kid used the Tenacious D from the 1996 Lyceum Production as his inspiration.
He failed miserably.
Do the world a favor and stop thinking you're good at acting, singing, dancing -- theatre in general, really. Because you aren't.

good performance. A bit off, but hey, no doubt thats the way he was told to play Herod. So not bad for what he was given to work with.

The Cameraperson should never EVER film anything else again. Or at least get to know the ZOOM button.

okay, if he didn't try to make it funny, then it would be... o... never mind.

I'm with Evan, the singer had no passion for this and had no intention of trying to recreate the character.

Pretty funny. I kind of got sick during it only because the cinematography was so shaky. Alright vocals. I like Herod's characterization.
