These cars are a lot of fun, for sure. I bought one about 2 months ago with the same thing in mind. Wanted a V8. I wish I had read into it a little more, because this car has turned into a mechanical nightmare. Already dealing with a blown head gasket, and some sort of tranny issue. The V8 engines in these cars just aren't all that reliable. Take good care of it, and maybe you'll have better luck than I! Nice looking car. :)
Reason for being discontinued as follows: Lincoln division was producing too many vehicles with their planned release of the mks and mkz to replace the zephyr and LS, other vehicles in development required funding, and they only managed to sell 8 thousand or so LS in 2006... Dead end, car was discontinued.
@1997FordProbeGT discontinued vehicle, limited run / limited parts = cheaper to purchase but much more expensive to maintain and own, and these suckers broke down alot apparently , I just bought a 2001 with 161,000kms on the dash so I hope this isn't the case...
i had one of these '01 ls w/ 3.9l v8..tiptronic...i never abused it whatsoever..cant say much for the previous ower but the car was immaculate all around only thing was it was very problem-matic & everything on the info on the dashboard said ok..egine temp..cabin filter..etc.......overall..defintly a beautiful well balenced car..i always drove it in 4th..but never exceeded 55-60mph cause of suspended licsense~
@1969MustangMACH1 the OD gear in these cars is really weird, it picks up as soon as you crest 55 kph and if you abruptly take your foot off the throttle it feels like it drops the gear and slips, I think it has something to do with the ratio from 5-2 or 5-3, but it seems to skip 4th completely on the comedown... wondering if that's normal on most new-er transmissions or if it's just another one of the LS quarky design flaws? not mechanic but I can tell the drop from 5-3 is odd
@jenn24m number means the highest gear it will go in to. so D4 will go up to 4th gear but wont go into 5th. D3 will go up to 3rd, but wont go into 4th and ect
@1997FordProbeGT these cars are never more than 3 grand and even those are in really good shape. the reason why they are so cheap is because they are shitboxes that usually greanade with little over 200 thousand km or less. probes are also garbage.
@1997FordProbeGT yeah dude. this is the top of the line ls....v8 and highest package with low miles so prolly 5 to 6 grand. i still see them go for up to 9 grand...never as low as 2, maybe if it was wrecked? but anyway its because its a lux car... they loose their value so easy! look at any bmw or jag ect from the 90s or early 2000's. they get expensive to work on with age and miles so the value goes way down. this car is practically a jag.
That's a nice looking LS. I bought an 01 LSV8 last November and I love it. I paid $6500.00 for it. I can't get over how good it handles and how fast it is. A truly remarkable car.

@1969MustangMACH1 This car is not really worth that much. Like all Cadillacs and Lincolns they depreciate fairly quickly. The dealer price used is probably around 9 and selling priate you can probably expect 6,000. I had one in 2002 and it was a 2001 LS. It was barely a year and had only 12600 miles when the Engine started having problems with coils. I just traded it in for a nicer car and luckily got out of it.
@agenthelios yeah i understand, these lux makes lose their valvue so quick, all because as the car ages it starts to need work done and working on 'em is a bitch!!
@agenthelios the coil problem was a known issue and is easily fixable. I have had my 2001 ls v8 for a little over a year, had the coil prob fixed, and haven't had any other problems yet. Great car!!

yes i have 1 they are so great the best car ever wouldnt trade or sell it 4 anything i highly reccomend it its luxurious and sporty and its just great i have this exact 1 but i put 20' inch U2 rims and mine is pearl white!
Yeah. That thing would destroy my 2000 Ford Police Interceptor and you would be way more comfortable and fuel efficient in the process. I should upgrade soon.

thank you so much dude! i do love this car. i would like to have a nice big grand marquis or town car too. would get better gas mililage then this thing. even though the ls has a smaller motor. its a high performance motor so it robs gas mililage
you've done your research. the electronics work perfectly but i did have to replace the ball joints. not a bad fix. if you want a classy ride that not many people have with awesome power, amazing handling and be extremely comfortable then this is the car for you my friend. it is a little high tech though, but i got used to it and figured everything out. but stuff like changing oil and other stuff is easy to do yourself. i say take a hard look at this car. im planning on keeping this one forever
Yeah thunderbirds are nice cars. before this car we had a 97 merc cougar with the same 4.6 as your T-bird and it had more power but did about the same on gas.
I like this car, it was unique with its tiny v8 and rear wheel drive, unlike the new zepher which is only a re branded mercury sable. How is gas millage with the 3.9l ?
For 2007, Ford Motor Company changed the name of the Zephyr to MKZ, and gave it Ford's new 3.5L V6. It is not a rebranded Mercury Sable. The Taurus/Sable are large cars. The MKZ is based on the Fusion/Milan/Mazda6, and they are classified as mid-sized. The MKZ is not just a rebranded Fusion/Milan, it has a larger and more powerful engine, has a completely different interior, and has many different exterior styling cues. I love the LS! I am 16 and plan on buying one within the next few months.
Hey man. Just showed my mom your car. She says it's gorgeous, it's very clean. I agree with her. Ha ha. =P She says that is the best riding car on the road (Lincoln). 5 Stars!
Nice looking ride, the interior is sweet as well. Rear wheel drive, V-8, and all the stuff to make a long road trip enjoyable, and get some decent mileage in return. Enjoy the car!
hey thank you! i love the car. also in return to your other comment on my jeep exhaust video, i accedentally removed it when i was going to reply. but anyway thats awesome you have a amc eagle! i love those things, such a bold design on amc's part. awesome 4x4. i also agree i am a huge fan of straight 6 engines, i dont like V6's as much. I6's have a lot of tourque and sound great. and AMC did know how to build a good I6 engine, i would know, the jeep 4.0 is a amc motor haha.
Yes, your Lincoln is a decent vehicle, too bad to the naysayers who don't agree, were they ever in one even? The AMC in-line six, this particular style dates back to 1962 if I remember correctly. They work very well with the 4X4 setup found in the Jeeps and Eagles. Eagles are basically Jeeps under the skin. So much to the fact that my Eagle has a 2-speed full time transfer case from a 1987 Full Size Jeep on it, a practical bolt-in!
yeah i couldnt agree more. the haters who probably never drivin one or let alone riddin in one. its a wonderful car. AMC is one of my favorite car companies even though they're gone. what irritates me is everyone pays so much attention to camaros and mustangs as muscle cars when AMC had just as good or better muscle line-up. they had the jevelin, AMX, SC/rambler scrambler and my personal favorite, rebel "the machine" plus more. awesome cars and its a shame to see them so underratted.
Well, whatever to their negativity, period. I have driven 1967 Marlins, a 1970 Rebel Machine, Javs, AMX's, etc from AMC and had a ride in a SC/Rambler. In irony, I gave today to a friend who is restoring a SC/Rambler a jack in perfect condition for this car. Off the showroom floor these things could pull around 100 MPH quarters! It hurt many egos to be beaten by a Rambler.
well then you are one lucky guy to have drivin all of those wonderful AMC's. check out my muscle cars video it has all of those cars in it! the thing about the SC/scrambler and the machine is they are badass factory modded rebels and ramblers. you just dont see that today! stupid chrysler for buying them out...
Yes, I did see the video, and I was going to comment on the AMC content. Much appreciated. AMC is starting to get some recognition now, eg, I get nothing but positive comments on the Eagle and AMC's in general, I write articles for the Northern Rambler's newsletter'AM Spirit'. In irony, it was because of Jeep that Chrysler bought out AMC, though Chrysler promptly destroyed all the AMC parts in the Brampton parking lot! I believe the first LHS vehicles were AMC designs. Hummers? AMC 20 diffs!
hey. yeah AMC's deserve more credit. people say mopar had the wildest muscle car colors...but they never thought of AMC too! thats cool how you write in that newsletter. yeah chrysler used AMC parts on jeep and actually left them basicly unchanged untill the early 2000's. but AMC isnt completely forgotton today, chrysler still builds cars in AMC's main plants and still use SOME of their parts on jeeps...not much anymore though.
To note, Hemmings 'Muscle Machines' has many articles on AMC offerings, and gets mostly favorable reviews on them. This month has a feature on the SC/Rambler and rebuilding/hopping up the AMC in-line six.
Dude, when did you get this car?? I have to say I am very jealous but happy for you! Awesome car. What's the specs on the motor? 280 / 340???? Or more??
thank you! im jealous of your truck too. haha. its a 3.9L V8. the same motor in the ford thunderbird. its ALL aluminum and is very light. stock it should put out about 270hp. doesnt sound like a lot. but this one will do about 300hp. thanks for the comment!
270 HP sounds like a whole lot to me. That's as much as the Gen 1 Ford Lightnings and 145HP more than mine, new! Anyway you do have a beautiful car. I'd be proud of it.
had it since 05. it was built in late 2000 and wasnt sold untill late 2003. (yes it sat on the lot for 3 years!) now it has about 45,000 miles. very low for this year of car.
Haha.. I wouldn't know about that. My truck has that "older truck smell" to it.. and oddly enough, I like it. (O_o) You need to take some more videos of your car. I'd like to listen to it in-cabin. Ever do a burnout in it? Don't lie. :P Next time you do, tape it!
sorry no burnouts in this rig! i want to take care of it. any more suggestions of me to film? if you wathed to the last 4 seconds there is a in cabin video of me flooring it.
the lincoln ls has never been made into a police cruiser.
its funny how people are commenting on my video saying this car is ugly and slow. well the lincoln ls is already a rare car, and the V8 delux like this is even more rare. so in 40 just think how much it will be worth? just think...nobody wanted plymouth superbirds in 1970...
I think your Lincoln is fantastic. My dad's friend has one and he loves it. This is a good example of Ford's excellent craftsmanship. Thumbs up to your wonderful car and five stars to your video.
this one isnt completely stock. a stock V8 ls will put out about 260 horse power i think? but this one was tuned up a little and i was told it now puts out about 300hp. good catch though!
ok first of all that little run at the end lasted only about 3 seconds and only went through one gear. i garrentee you it wasnt hard on the car. its not like im doing burnouts. i would NEVER do anything to hurt this car.
like i said that was one time buddy. im sure it will do it many times with no problems, but im not about to try it. i know the car...you dont. it was just for the video. its not like im out doing major burnouts in it or pulling powerslides. its just not made for that. this cars strong point is handling and luxury.
i dont know who you think you are to come on my video and tell me to sell my car especially without ever driving one or knowing anything about it. but i promise you if you drove one you would change your mind pretty damn quick. LEARN YOUR FACTS!
and me being a true gearhead i would never tell someone to sell their car or diss someone elses car. because most likely they love it and i do love this car.
I was impressed with the battery in the trunk. Sleek styling that denotes a taste for luxury. It was probably more affordable than the average person would think.
Nice, Kevin! Lots of luxury, a reasonable size, and plenty of scoot! Too bad they didn't continue with it! I was seriously interested in the LS before I decided on the new Mustang. Nice walkaround...battery in the trunk too! :) Jack
does anyone know if these came with a Limited slip rear gears?

Well, whatever to their negativity, period. I have driven 1967 Marlins, a 1970 Rebel Machine, Javs, AMX's, etc from AMC and had a ride in a SC/Rambler. In irony, I gave today to a friend who is restoring a SC/Rambler a jack in perfect condition for this car. Off the showroom floor these things could pull around 100 MPH quarters! It hurt many egos to be beaten by a Rambler.
spikedpunk 3 years ago
well then you are one lucky guy to have drivin all of those wonderful AMC's. check out my muscle cars video it has all of those cars in it! the thing about the SC/scrambler and the machine is they are badass factory modded rebels and ramblers. you just dont see that today! stupid chrysler for buying them out...
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
Yes, I did see the video, and I was going to comment on the AMC content. Much appreciated. AMC is starting to get some recognition now, eg, I get nothing but positive comments on the Eagle and AMC's in general, I write articles for the Northern Rambler's newsletter'AM Spirit'. In irony, it was because of Jeep that Chrysler bought out AMC, though Chrysler promptly destroyed all the AMC parts in the Brampton parking lot! I believe the first LHS vehicles were AMC designs. Hummers? AMC 20 diffs!
spikedpunk 3 years ago
hey. yeah AMC's deserve more credit. people say mopar had the wildest muscle car colors...but they never thought of AMC too! thats cool how you write in that newsletter. yeah chrysler used AMC parts on jeep and actually left them basicly unchanged untill the early 2000's. but AMC isnt completely forgotton today, chrysler still builds cars in AMC's main plants and still use SOME of their parts on jeeps...not much anymore though.

Yes, like I said, AMC lives on in more ways then most car buffs even know.

Or more??
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
thank you! im jealous of your truck too. haha. its a 3.9L V8. the same motor in the ford thunderbird. its ALL aluminum and is very light. stock it should put out about 270hp. doesnt sound like a lot. but this one will do about 300hp. thanks for the comment!
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
270 HP sounds like a whole lot to me. That's as much as the Gen 1 Ford Lightnings and 145HP more than mine, new! Anyway you do have a beautiful car. I'd be proud of it.
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
yeah 300 horses is pretty good for this car i guess. but its strongest point is handling.
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
So when did you get this car????
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
had it since 05. it was built in late 2000 and wasnt sold untill late 2003. (yes it sat on the lot for 3 years!) now it has about 45,000 miles. very low for this year of car.
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
Ah ha, so you didn't just get this car. I was under the impression you just bought it!
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
ha ha nope. i still love it though!
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
I know the feeling. ;)
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
haha yep. i remember when i first got it, it was so unused that it still had the new car smell and only 20,000 miles!
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
Haha.. I wouldn't know about that. My truck has that "older truck smell" to it.. and oddly enough, I like it. (O_o) You need to take some more videos of your car. I'd like to listen to it in-cabin. Ever do a burnout in it? Don't lie. :P Next time you do, tape it!
F150TuffTruckman 3 years ago
sorry no burnouts in this rig! i want to take care of it. any more suggestions of me to film? if you wathed to the last 4 seconds there is a in cabin video of me flooring it.

Paint it Black & White!
That car is only good for a police cruser!
Ugly body!

the lincoln ls has never been made into a police cruiser.
its funny how people are commenting on my video saying this car is ugly and slow. well the lincoln ls is already a rare car, and the V8 delux like this is even more rare. so in 40 just think how much it will be worth? just think...nobody wanted plymouth superbirds in 1970...

I think your Lincoln is fantastic. My dad's friend has one and he loves it. This is a good example of Ford's excellent craftsmanship. Thumbs up to your wonderful car and five stars to your video.

Nice car man, but do a better research on your facts about the horsepower and the LSD.
hyelifels 3 years ago
this one isnt completely stock. a stock V8 ls will put out about 260 horse power i think? but this one was tuned up a little and i was told it now puts out about 300hp. good catch though!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Over 6K shift and that won't last long.. Unless your an Exec and taking ppl out to lunch.. sell it.. Sorry.. that's just how I feel..
bigblockmustang 3 years ago
ok first of all that little run at the end lasted only about 3 seconds and only went through one gear. i garrentee you it wasnt hard on the car. its not like im doing burnouts. i would NEVER do anything to hurt this car.
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
All I'm saying is it won't take the abuse.. If you think 6K shifts ar Ok.. then Rock on.. Your the one that's got to pay the bill when it breaks..
bigblockmustang 3 years ago
like i said that was one time buddy. im sure it will do it many times with no problems, but im not about to try it. i know the car...you dont. it was just for the video. its not like im out doing major burnouts in it or pulling powerslides. its just not made for that. this cars strong point is handling and luxury.
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
i dont know who you think you are to come on my video and tell me to sell my car especially without ever driving one or knowing anything about it. but i promise you if you drove one you would change your mind pretty damn quick. LEARN YOUR FACTS!
and me being a true gearhead i would never tell someone to sell their car or diss someone elses car. because most likely they love it and i do love this car.

I was impressed with the battery in the trunk. Sleek styling that denotes a taste for luxury. It was probably more affordable than the average person would think.
robertpina99 3 years ago
yeah it was pretty resonably priced! LS stands for luxury sport! and it holds its name very well.
1969MustangMACH1 3 years ago
Nice, Kevin! Lots of luxury, a reasonable size, and plenty of scoot! Too bad they didn't continue with it! I was seriously interested in the LS before I decided on the new Mustang. Nice walkaround...battery in the trunk too! :) Jack
