  • Where does culture end and propaganda begin? I am not sure if all of those paintings you mentioned are worth tens of millions of dollars. But, you are not just buying a picture, you are buying culture and a snapshot of what life was like in the past - through another person's eyes. It is important to link contemporary society to society of the past to see how humans have evolved and what remains constant. Certain artists are just better at expressing and articulating their surroundings than

  • this is dumb... you have no idea about art and im sure u cant paint or draw or do anything artistic except talk with ur mouth...thats why you think its propaganda.

  • Some of what you said is true. It's true in your talk of 'value' in terms of money, but to people like myself, who actually have a firm grasp on their mind and morality, it's rubbish. Value presupposes the question a value to whom? And the only right answer is an individual. That individual's own rational self-interest will determine his or her values. Collective values are an illusion and non-existent (in truth), and really, I think that's what you're referring to as propaganda.

  • @Sickofu100 Gotton is not a word but maybe he can get an interpretter to translate for you in your Tard lingo. GO SUCK ON A LEMON SOURPUSS!

  • This is kinda stupid. LOL

  • Are you looking to sell that clay face? I'll make an offer, that's a one of a kind piece of art right there.

  • That gibberish painting, you also have to see what they are doing. That is making fun of people. That is saying, hey im going to throw paint randomly on a canvas, and there are actually complete morons out there who will think that it is not random, and that it is art, and pay lots of money for it. It is an expiriment to see how stupid people really are, and it was a complete success.

  • Propaganda is the art of lying. It's making people believe things that aren't true to further an agenda, whether for good or evil, both, in many cases being a matter of perspective. George Orwell knew this well and showed, though fiction, the power of endless rhetoric in the form of propaganda. The best way of saying what it is would be to say it's repeating lies until they become truths. United States governmentand corporations are prime examples lately, their megaphone is just bigger.

  • 140 Million dollars for splotched paint??? HOW RETARDED! Even if I had 140 million dollars to wipe my ass with I certainly would not buy that piece of shit!

  • right it's the same as sports, lets take Labron James for example. He got paid hundreds of millions of dollars by Nike to feature his face in their commercials. He also gets paid millions of dollars to do nothing more than shoot a ball threw a hoop.Essentially valueless in what he produces, but the propaganda machine tells us that an un-educated ball thrower has more value than a top notch brain surgeon who is lucky to break the 2mill mark a year.

  • wow if you dont know anything about art history shut the fuck up and stop spreading YOUR PROPAGANDA! go back to pollocks time or van Goghs and create those works before them without being inspired by them. I thought you might actually have something valuable to say.

  • @MrDrewbus or maybe you're just a product OF the propaganda. He's showing the power of propaganda using an easy to understand example. History in the USA was taught to all of us, including me, by The State, with state controlled curriculum. Brainwashing 101. Did they ever teach us about The Fed Reserve in high school? I think not.

  • Propaganda is more like a tool of the ruling i wont say class lets say elite

It perpetuates the elites core believes and exploitation to all others while giving it a humane face too in the same time i.e we are all told that charity is good helps the poor etc

Well isn't the reason that poor people exist due to the fact that rich people exist so isn't it propaganda to say that charity is good for the poor instead of saying there should be no reason for charity to exist in the first place ?

  • Nowdays everyone and everything is ART or an artist, horses, cats, flies are artists, musicians, actors, 3 year old babies all are genius since the invention of abstract art, is alm ost the only profesion where you dont have to know the history of art or know anything about it all you have to do is make any spot mark or stain everywhere, make some propaganda and voila! you are a genius.

  • just like the losing value of the U.S dollar.

  • and you ruined my day.

  • This video was weird. It has some interesting ideas, but your pronunciation was distracting. All I heard after a while was propaganda this propaganda that.

  • say "go up to your URL bar, put a Q between the words you and tube and then press enter or click go

  • All the haters here have, I think, a point. But at the same time, they all sound pretty stupid to me as well. Art, as they say, is often about self-expression and it doesn't care about the outside world. However, art in wartime, like the pictures of Stalin and Hitler looking kind and loving, clearly is propaganda. I think everyone here should just take a step back and think about what they're saying and how it sounds before yelling nonsense about nonsense.

  • somewhat compelling. i enjoyed the video. thank you.

  • Idiotic bullshit. All art has value to those who want it. Yes, rarity and oddities are a deciding factor, but to say someone's art is valueless is offensive and shows a closed minded nature. Just because you think people think that way does not mean that is right. Your opinion is not an absolute, it is only a theory based on how you view the world.

  • Is this a joke?

Whoever made this is a moron.

Van Gogh's art doesn't lie by omission (a key to any charge of "propaganda" - nor does it attempt to influence anyone's attitude towards one belief over another.) It's just a pretty picture, a revolutionary pretty picture that changed how objects in our world were represented - vastly different than the other painters of his time (that's why it's so expensive.)

The only lies by omission, etc. I see are in this ridiculous video...

  • WTF is this

  • God i stopped at at like minute 5 to comment. After watching the rest all i can say is that this is such and unsophisticated video not addressing many of the complex issues connected to art and propaganda. This is just sad.

  • In other words for the most part we comply and agree with these pricings. For me this is more connected to capitalism then brainwashing propaganda.Take for example sports athletes. Some make for contracts less then 10yrs. over 100 million dollars. For the most part no one complaints. Its part of the american ideals shaped by capitalism to be able to make as much money as you want and can and thus watch someone pay crazy amounts. But If one wants to disect things deep everyone is a propagandist.

  • Dude this is so unsophisticated. As artist i agree with the idea of art prices being rediculious but its more complex then your making it out to be. All of art is simply and expression of human ideas from a giving time and place. Van gogh was important in the timeline of art history. But moving on i think in life its both a bit of those in power that place value on certain things and also those that believe and reciprocate this idea.

  • You,( who made this video), are a very left brained person, who doesn't understand (feel) art. People "need" art for many reasons, this is related to our evolution as a dominant species... BUT! I am also a left brained person so I tend to agree with you :), but then again I have right brained friends more art oriented, so I learned how they life by feeling, guts and intuition only. So my conclusion is that you put your perspective in the video, I couldn't have done it better.

  • You're actually pretty stupid.

  • "Europe is pretty much just one big country, with different languages. All the churches look the same."

    You are so incredibly confused.

  • expel the juw gangsters,

after they pay us regarations of $10,000 per non-jew person.

  • i dont van gogh was very good

  • stop the jew lies.

    expel the schemeing gangster jews

  • fat boy taking deep breath

  • you sound mentally retarded. and probably are, because obviously you dont understand the definition of propaganda.

  • Nice video and some great points made.. Now if all of the sheeple will wake up the world will improve .

  • jews are shameless in their exploitation of these lies about deaths of ppl who never existed. Stop the jew lies

  • slaves like their slavery.most people like their pigpens

  • Please watch my video. It's about earth changes. People changes too.... (slight images on "the downfall of imperium"

    Thanks!

  • That was very interesting. There is a form of "art" that I'm interested in hearing more about. What is the propaganda value of a cheese sandwich with a, supposed, image of the virgin Mary. Or the propaganda value of a brussel sprout (one of which was sold on e-bay for about $3,000.

  • it is so good ...bad the voice is hard to understand.

  • *Yawn.

  • nice video man!! very intrusting

  • So true.

  • 1. you are an awful public speaker.

    2. you obviously don't know the definition of propaganda. you are confusing it with fame and taste. and there is no suck thing as "propaganda value"

    3. you mispronounced almost every name. jackson POHLOCK?

  • Their better ideas of Propaganda then money and art. Try the elite keep the u.s. people asleep in front the tube. Or the black budget and were the money goes. Or even in the u.s. that all money is debt from the federal reserve. Is it Propaganda yes But in a money based economy. This or any other art is what you as a person value it. my opinion it should be free as i support a resource based system.

  • thnx. nice vid

  • This can't be prevented; humans are simply walking propaganda machines. Everyone is constantly self promoting, usually through charisma or other outward appearances.

When people form into groups with a common interest, this propaganda becomes more pervasive as they pool their resources and influence.

Therefore, all institutions no matter how big, are just larger extensions of the average, egotistical individual.

  • WTF? So much for propaganda lesson #1. If art collectors are the most obvious example of propaganda you can come up with, then maybe you should walk around outside and look at all the propaganda floating around you all the time.

We eat it. We wear it. We kill each other with it. Propaganda is everywhere. Of course, propaganda is usually associated with politics, so maybe you mean "marketing" instead. Of course, 'marketing' has just been marketed as a nice alternative to "propaganda".

  • that comment about propaganda is propaganda =D

(someone please keep this chain going lol xD)

  • Aside from you sounding identical to Lou Fuerigno... You make no sense. Global warming is a lie? Is that why fee-lance scientists (pro-bono) confirm polar ice caps melting, and we have reached all time highs and lows in temperature in the last 5 years.

I do agree in a boat load of conspiracy in our precious fascist system. You need to be a little more convincing... and maybe a bit more informed. Also, try not to put Cypress Hill on the opening next time.

  • this film in itself is propaganda:)

  • I enjoyed the little tour-thanks! And frankly-I found your OPINION entertaining! Thanks Man! Keep posting-I subscribed-and that means I am paying attention to YOUR opinion as well as having my own as an artist.

  • why does everyone argue over shit about "god." that's the shit that gives people accuse for war. "it said in this book that this is our land" lol. that proves nothing. simple science discoveries are not used in modern day politics. evolution theory is a pretty valid statement if you ask me. we have remains going back far longer than religions have existed. it's just the human mind. it's amazing that humans have the capability of controlling each other in such horrible ways.

  • Your voice sounds like the giant guy in the princess bride :D

  • Great analysis Glenn Beck.

This video is a weak attempt to describe a concept that the author clearly has no understanding of. There is an actual history of using art as propaganda, but this video displayed none of them. The entirety of the video could be summed up as 'I think art value is subjective so there must be an underground conspiracy pulling the strings'.

    In summary:

    1. Art is priced on more than aesthetics and quantity.

    2. Propaganda and public opinion are not the same thing.

  • @4eyesAnimation I don't think you understand the validity of the comparison. What would really make a difference between Jackson Pollocks splotch mess , and one i can construct? Im sure he wasn't the first to put a bunch of colors together as so. And the point of this video wasn't political propaganda, but the propaganda associated to the value of certain art. Propaganda and public opinion are obviously not the same exact thing, but implying they have no relation is downright ignorant.

  • Our disagreement is about the establishment for quantitative guidelines in the arts market You are approaching art from a sans-historical perspective that only takes aesthetics into consideration which has been outdated for centuries. Of course you could make a piece that mimicked Pollock visually, but that isn't what gives his work value You are assuming that anyone who is a great painter is automatically a great artist, which simply isn't the case

Difference between the Artisan and the Artist

  • @4eyesAnimation hm, then what else would give the art value besides the art itself?

  • I feel like some Kentuky fried chicken & beer right now. ummm.

  • I saw the Republican logo (Elephant) on your screen sweep and thought at first you must have forgotten to put the Democrat logo on it as well.... but then I spotted the Soviet Flag ,,,, the NEW Democrat symbol.... Very fitting..

  • You are ridiculous.

  • We just elected a president based solely on Propaganda. I am ashamed to be a Democrat ....

  • also as a veteran of the invasion of iraq...yes the invasion...march 19 2003 with 3rd infantry division... we were among the first groups to reach baghdad... one of the first atrocities of the war (other than killing innocent people) was the burnings of several museums... it should be known that all the important stuff was removed before the fires started... and it wasnt iraqis that stole that stuff... it was of no practical VALUE to those people... ancient sumerian artifacts that is...

  • art is bullshit... i hear so many people say things like "what he was doing was REVOLUTIONARY" but then you ask them "how" and they start stumbling all over the place making up things that may sound good but ultimately art is pointless and useless... changes in art never preceded any thing revolutionary but in fact were reactions to actual changes in the external world.. if anything they can be used as a sort of "litmus" test for generations... nothing more...hitler was an artist

  • You couldn't have talked to very many good artists, then. Good artists have no reason to explain their work, it's up to the viewer to come upon a conclusion, because that is the only conclusion that matters. Why is it so important that art be the medium in which changes culture, art is its own culture, and therefore the term "revolutionary " applies only to ART culture....And art isn't pointless, otherwise primal man wouldn't have wasted his time and spent it finding food.

  • Comment removed

  • Even if art only reflected the external world, does this make it useless? Art (on a certain level) IS useless, and that's what makes it so interesting. Cultures across the world create things that have meaning that serve no practical function. What causes us to create what we create? That is a truly interesting question.

  • @qwe07 +1

    I agreeee

  • Van Gogh was a terrible example of what can be considered propaganda. He she have select global warming as it is current and the vast majority of people who "believe" in global warming do so with almost no knowledge of the facts.

BTW, I know global warming is occurring based on the facts but those same facts suggest it is nothing to lose sleep over.

  • do research... rising and falling temps throughout history coincide with the rise and fall of solar flare activity.... yeah... other planets are heating up too... so are the martians and andromedans and greys etc etc going to come here to make us pay for their rising temps....because our cows are farting too much... 30 years ago we were supposed to have a "coming ice age"....hmmmmm

  • @gilligan80 Most peered reviewed scientific papers have pointed toward global warming since the mid 60's. Most predictions of an impending ice age came from the popular press. In the 70's seven papers predicted global cooling, forty two predicted global warming. Is man responsible? I do not know. I do know cleaner renewable energy sources should be something we as a nation should strive for.

  • Sorry but you know nothing about art,

what Van Gogh did was a moment in time of the art world and was a MAJOR marker for a philosophy of a society that was starting to build a momentum. Perhaps his brother was taking advantage of his death but make no mistake about it, his talent in the use of color, form, texture, shadow and many other visual elements make him in his time an unrecognized master.

Perhaps you should stick to Obama and Hitler posters?

  • he did not say van gogh was a insignificant to art....he is just saying propaganda influenced how much some one was willing to pay for his paintings.

  • very informative. This was a video worth watching

  • ha! cypress hill!

  • Cant get enuf of this vid & the narrator. Wuts yur next project? Plz contact me.

  • anything that shapes your opinion is propaganda

propaganda is more of a war time term.

you WILL have an opinion in the end

  • Everything is propaganda according to you. So what's your point? Cause everything you believe is then from propaganda too.

  • @jdbohdan I don't know why this man picks on Van Gogh. I've seen some of his art in person and it was great and I've seen a lot. Yes, he is marketed, but that is not devious propaganda.

  • what a lot of drivel. Supply and demand has been reduced to propaganda? At the end of the video he even suggest that the value of money is propaganda. Apparently it is propaganda to establish a value to an item, such as a dollar, in leu of a barter system. Is the economy propaganda? is establishing a value to your time and labor propaganda? This individual needs to revisit the meaning of propaganda. The only propaganda in the video is the video.

  • @dreadgunner I agree with you, dread. Economics, banking, fiat notes, is horse of a different color altogether.

  • you antisemite bastards!

  • van gogh was rather talented, and didn't sell at the time becouse his work lacks the standard propaganda. The pictures were unique yet didn't push a political perspective.

  • What do you call this film? Propaganda?

If you imagine that real art (not illustration à la Hitler) is only worth what some critic tells you it's worth, then you really should have used a different example because your knowledge of what are actually is happens to be severely limited.

  • The narrator sounds like Lou Ferigno

  • and second off all jackson pollock created his drip paintings in the late 40s early 50s and if you knew anything about art you would understand it. not to mention the painting is 20 ft long but isnt randomly dripped on the canvas if you saw it at MOMA in person you would see the patterns this is like saying a ferrari isnt worth 200k because after all its only metal and plastic and should be bought for the going rate of scrap metal. you want to debate propaganda? i suggest govts not art

  • FIRST OFF van gogh was the very first person to paint modern art and to an art collector its like having babe ruths personal baseball bat to a baseball nut or the rough draft of the constitution to a history nut

  • I loved this video. Really got me thinking. Every culture places value on something. Not all cultures value others "stuff" the same. The more people you get to believe something is valuable, the more money you make. funny!

  • the zionist or the jews don't run everything in the world.

  • You're right, jews maybe don't run everything.. maybe things like city rubbish, homeless shelters etc.)

  • It took 1,300 lies before my brothers of the feathers gave up trusting the g men.

  • Operation Iraq Liberty or OIL ! Is an example of propaganda !!

  • It makes one think, that success as we perceive it in the western world, it is really obtained through nepotism, marketing of oneself, and a good dose of ass kissing. This inevitably breeds mediocrity.

  • What makes the works of an artist more valuable after death as opposed to while still alive is the fact that the artist is no longer able to contradict the lies being told about him; and thus not able to destroy the myths that these lies build.

  • there is propaganda all your life, its all bullshit, to get one over on you , but alas ,must people are fat dumb and happy, so all i can say is FUCK EM ,look after your family, and FUCK EM

  • Next time try to use a narrator who DOESN'T have a fuckingly annoying LISP and maybe I'll watch the full eight minutes.

  • all information is propaganda, why do you have a problem with that?

  • youre too dumb for youtube

  • Kind of like the same you are doing by sublimely suggesting your Political and Religious views?... ( just kidding ). Good Job..! I really enjoyed it.

  • You're using the word propaganda out of context.

Regarding your foreclosure battle, good luck. I personally feel those people getting evicted actually deserve it. Foreclosure is the result of either 2 things: Greed or Stupidity.

  • It's a way to rip off idiots, just like the stock market: Antiques and paintings mostly are Jews properties since WWI,WWII. So they wanted to find way to rip off Idiots, The Value of the Painting since it's "Art " should not be translated into Money, have said so wood cabinets, or dressers should not exceed the value of its wood and the Labor. This is how they take your Gold, and give you worthless piece of Junk.

  • I don't think it's"The Jews" but people in high positions who are just godless. They can call themselves Christians, Jews, Muslims, whatever, but all these people have in common, in my opinion, is that they worship money and power. What do you think?

  • BrooklynAnna, I'm not talking about the Puppet rather the head of the Snake, always it will be some Zionist, may be a Jew is not the proper word to use. Just name any Organization wich deals with ripping people's of their Money and it will be headed by a Zionist: Banks, the Fed, Mafias, Drugs, Holywood, Prostitution, Just name it and follow the Pyramid to the top then you will understand what I mean.

  • I would like you to please define propaganda. If you would examine this definition I think you will realize that you aren't using the word correctly in your video. I think what your referring to is more like simple culture and history than propaganda. In your Hitler hypothetical, if he was emperor of the world his art would have value because it would reference a key time in history.

By your logic, why does gold have value? Its just matter in our universe, how is it different than dirt?

  • "Look at this painting by Jackson Pollock. It's just splotches of runny paint."

Look at this human. He's just an integrated collection of problem solving devices.

One can be reductionist about anything.

We're human. We assign value. Should this process just be called propaganda? I think not.

  • Excellent vdo. Empowering edUtainment 5star superDUPER! I'll have to twitter this4U.

  • good video

  • Van Gough was an genius and his paintings are rare relative to demand. That's why they're expensive. Calling it "propaganda" is a misnomer.

Even if it was an irrationally held widespread belief, that alone does not qualify it as propaganda.

  • And this folks, it what we call "socialist propaganda".

  • This "documentary" seems like a train of thought I might have while taking a shower. I didn't learn anything from this... I wonder if he's a teacher at a community college, he sounds like a computer professor I used to have. First lecture "comptuers have CPUs monitors and keyboards" wow thanks

  • This guy has no clue.

  • True that.

  • If it's worth 82mil and I hate art and yet can afford it, it is a good investment. This argument could be made about anything, then propaganda just becomes information that people believe because it is either true or it is to their benefit. Propaganda is never false as long as there is a basis for belief in it. 7 +1 = 1 in some cases. Does that make it propagand, NO.

It depends on Ur point of view.

And Ur's is subjective. Not that it is wrong. It is only Ur viewpoint.

  • GOOD WORK!

  • Very good video. People are buying shit instead of helping the less fortunate. Is because none of those people know about God and they won't enter in the kingdom of heaven for the lack of knowledge.

  • I do like Van Goughs paintings, he had his own style and they are pretty regaurdless. I would never pay millions for them. I would pay 10,000 dollars for a hitler painting. Just to have something that was creatived by one of the worlds most retarded pshycopaths would be neat.

  • Is that Lou Feriggno narating?

  • This video certainly stretches the link between propaganda and art...

In the real world this would be called advertising and marketing, not propaganda. Try again.

  • the reason the word propaganda became perjorative was it was associated with the nazis who had no prob with it, so we changed it to marketing.

  • No, people collect b/c various work reflects ideological control. People who spend 80 million are sometimes smart and less propangandized, interested in representations of ideology through time. I see what you're thinking...but please keep thinking. I hope you do not stop where you are, lol. Nazis stole for the same reason Bolsheviks did from Czars (even more value there). See Yale U. Press History's Greatest Hiest (Bolshevik thefts). Control of ideological representation---naive vid.

  • There is no intrinsic value to anything in the universe! We give everything the value that it has. I hope that realization didn't come as a shock to anyone.

  • 1:02 If global warming was true what makes us think a carbon tax will fix it?

  • Because if it is created by humans, then the tax is supposed to curb the amount of carbon emissions we create, which is largely through cars. It's a governmental measure which has already proven to be effective in other sectors, but I don't agree with it. The corporations should be held accountable, not the consumer.

  • awsome!

  • Great videos keep it up

  • Say there is no such thing as money laundering and selling pictures for 140 million. Say there are only simple people who believe what ever they are told..then are these truly humans or sheep? How much time is spent trying to educate sheep rather than directing them through mental stalls for their shearing? So if you learn does that mean you are going to be capable to use your mind??? Or do you think lazy minds assume others will protect them? A society that feeds off main stream media starves.

  • Very interesting points ... I've wondered some of the things re: the value assigned to art, to religion and so on.

  • The public mind is constantly being shaped by propaganda. Its how they persuade the masses to think in a certain direction.

    Obviously it works very well.

  • Totally awwsum video thruout!!! From yur intro's eyecatchin eyeball, to yur informative message set to a catchy beat, yuv definitely demonstrated yur creative and analytical talents! Very clever usage of merging art and history with propaganda. Ppl will wanna watch yur future 5 star projects!!!

  • Good shit indeed, high fives all around for whoever made this.

  • Absolutely brilliant!! Five, faved and featured!!! I've also added it to a playlist I have going for a propaganda project my partner and I are doing! We're trying to get more people to realise that propaganda is everywhere!!!! This is a perfect example!!! Thank you!! : )
