The taliban are using weapons the U.S gave the mujihadeen in the 80s to fight off the soviets and that includes type 56 assault rifles(ak47s) and dragunov rifles along with rpgs and some stingers. I would know because ive held, cleaned, oiled, shot and maintained them before. They are highly reliable and very very simple. Cleaning is not complex. You just open the cover, remove the gas tube and clean. Its not hard. These rifles are not 'advanced'. They were made to be very simple, reliable and effective so all soldiers can use them.

Ive seen them submerged in water and then come up immediately and shoot with no defects or misfires. Ive seen them buried in sand and still fire an entire magazine without a single stoppage. They hardly ever need cleaning which is why they are among the best in the world and so loved by many fighters.
