stephanie mills' voice is incredible, but i don't think it's totally fair to discount diana ross... i'm not even a massive fan of diana's but i can hear a vulnerability and a personality that people can buy into. vocal ability is only half the story. it's also about feeling like someone's speaking to you. i think they both manage that in different ways... incidentally, if you haven't already, check out 11-year-old jazmine sullivan's version on here. @Protomang I understand what you're saying. The lyrics are different because it's in a different part of the play. But, it's essentially the same song. It has the same chords and the same melody and the same sentiment in the lyrics. So, let's not be too particular about it.

Short Story: Fell in love with a man born and raised in Aruba. Got married to him, moved there to be with him, he died 5 years later of cancer......I remained on the island for a year trying to figure out what to do next. I was paralyzed with indecision until I was sitting on the beach one day and heard Stephanie's song "Home" booming from one of the beach bars..... giving me the kick I needed to return home...."where there's love & affection" This song will always be bittersweet to me !

I think they did Stephanie a favor by not casting her in the movie version of The Wiz. Because the movie was dark and scary and just God awful. A real stinker , just a over produced mess of a movie. Stephanie deserved better than that crappy film.
