I love Bette's (slightly camp, comic-ironic frustrated) rendition, but (as her Rose could transplant well into Bye Bye Birdie as Albert's longsuffering mother) LIZA's is THE pure characterization: the full-bodied, full-throated, full-gestured, 50-megaton tour-de-force playwright's-dream incarnation and enactment of this role and song ! In Liza's younger Rose we see a plausible beauteous vaudeville superstar Could Have Been.
you know this is, FOR ME, THE BEST version of some people I have ever heard. yes I also watched covers of Bette, Patti and Bernadette, etc just to make sure, but Liza's version has so much intent, force and drive, the lyrics come across loud and clear and with great determination. I absolutely LOVE this :)
I have the whole show recorded live at Radio City Music Hall. She is an incredibly talented and versatile performer. She feeds off the energy she gets from the audience. Anyone criticizing here for her drug use, addiction is a disease, not a choice. Leave the woman alone. It must be great up there on your pedestal, so perfect you can tear other people apart.
Me too. I've had the audio Radio City album since the early nineties and I was only able to imagine her performance in my head. Even so, her singing comes alive with her stories which coloured my imagination. I've never seen live footages of the show, so this is fantastic to watch. Thanks for posting...
I've had the CD of Liza at Radio City for ages but I've never seen the actual show so this is great to see! I love how much emotion and energy she puts into it. I'd love to see her perform.
@YvetteElizabeth A charisma in person that is beyond words. One night in the 80s I was on a first date at Cafe Central in NY and she was put at table that was butted against ours. The staff came to separate the tables & she asked if we wanted to make it a foursome instead (ONLY in NY right?). She and my date drew a sailboar on the paper tablecloth with the crayons at the tables. It was unbelievable - like we'd known her all our lives. She was so wonderful. Will never forget my date with Liza!
Yes, this is the best Some People.

@YvetteElizabeth - I still pinch myself occasionally. I can still see the sailboat in my mind (my date got that!)
