I prefer this original version of war of the worlds to the new one. I like the feeling Wells puts in his works to really create the effect of an invasion, and what humanity would do.

Only problem here is that the heat-ray generator was not mounted on the top of the cowl.  It was on a separate arm attached to the main body of the tripod.

This is one of the best, of not the best, visual realizations of the Martian tripod machines. Wells' description of them is detailed, yet it is stil difficult to graso what these things actually looked like. "A thing like a dish cover"; "boilers on stilts"; "cowled head"; "moving with a swift 'rolling' motion", etc.
