@bluesrob amen to that, Marianne was telling the REAL story as she did know her.. I think it's a gorgeous, appropriate, gritty beautiful piece, just like Nico was.
I love Marianne Faithfull's inspiration for Nico! None like Nico ever again! Two Goddesses who knew each other and a song which translates the Meaning of that.
Funny coming from Marianne ''she's in the shit'' because she was much more in the shit than Nico who was much more productive in the 70's despite her addiction.
Miss Faithfull had a lot of close calls and was hospitalized many times before she took her last -almost fatal- shot in 1986. She was lucky to survive all that; who knows what would've happened if Nico didn't die from that bike accident...maybe made a song together :)
Reminds me in some ways of Dusty Springfield/Pet Shop Boys "Nothing Has Been Proved" from the film "Scandal," the way the lyric is an observation on the 1960s London music scene.
You people who complain about the language are imbeciles. Marianne knew Nico. If she wants to say shit or cunt or piss or fuck or any other word she wants to, it's her song. She's didn't write it to please your narrow-minded sensibilities. Grow up.
amazing song! such a tragic way to die though. i mean nico lived through her own season of hell and went through her heroin+methadone scene...not to mention surviving the goddamn 1960's only to die from a head injury while riding her bike with her child.. so sad. so raw but also so beautiful for marianne to express herself and her feelings for nico. ) e.
i don't like it either, yet it's pretty poignant...it threads the song pointing to the heroin addiction, which haunted her throughout her adult life...it's the sad part that weights heavy on an otherwise marvelous existence pursuing music in her own original way. Needless to say, i love her work...
I have to agree with Marianne when she says that this song is among the best she has ever written. This album is really underrated. Thanks for uploading!
PS : Alain Delon IS a cunt (and an asshole)

That was really beautiful, like a picturesque story being told...I was almost surprized when it ended. Got kinda lost in the song for a minute.

@beamerZ You're right, Nico never lost her marbles (her Marble Index?!) and her death was just a freak accident, it could have happened to anyone,

@rimbaudboy31 nico's death was sadly ironic. both marianne and nico are great singers and this is a beautiful song.

@rimbaudboy31 I don't think her son was with her at the time of her death, I actually thought he was living in France at the time.

I agree with you. Both "Shit" and "Cunt' cheapen the song and its profound meaning. But overall I like it.
