I grew up in Wausau and was a teenager in the 70's (went to a "new" West High school). I moved to the west coast in 1978 - well before the Mall. Downtown was always fun. We went to Hersberger's (sp?) basement for deals, Food Town Market, Jerry's music store, Prange's window had the best Christmas displays, American National Bank, the Mint, Woolworth's, Kresge's, Fannie Farmer, Three Sisters, Jo Annes...It was a great place to grow up...
I remember my dad telling us about the city's plans to build the Mall. This was sometime in the late 60's. So when it opened in 1983, it had been on the drawing board for quite sometime,
