@Sethtyphon: I have a first generation copy of that footage, it is in fact 10 times better than this here. In the beginning Elvis starts out with a guitar and on my footage (CC Rider, I Got a Woman) I can see each string on the guitar, even the thin one (high E). BTW there are 7 different camera angle from that show, in fact I could cover the entire show with the footage I have and all of it is in mint quality, you would not believe it is 8mm footage.

He went out in public because the world loved him and wanted to see him. Don't blame him for shit. He may not have looked as good as he did before, but still far better than anybody else in the world because he's Elvis fuckin Presley. There's NOTHING embarrassing about that. From all acounts..this was a great show. Very strange that just 6 months earlier, he was much much heavier. So here, it appears that he is on his way back to slimming down but again, 6 months later in June for his CBS special, he is bigger than ever. I don't know how or why he would have let himself be taped for that TV special in the shape he was in. They should have taped this show. What a rolley coaster ride he was on with his weight..but really, the drugs took him down for good.

I was at this concert with my wife and my brother and his wife and Elvis was so good that the concert was over way too soon for us! We were pretty far up in the seating and I just wish I would have taken binoculars! We were supposed to have close seats but they weren't. As long as I live I am so glad to have been there on New Years eve with Elvis. The King forever!

me again....u know most blame his prescription pills for his death...he had an enlarged heart which is overlooked..okay pills maybe didnt help but not the sole problem...it was his time.I was 3...the world must remember where/what they were doing when we lost him.Great footage.

This was a show in wich Elvis really was enjoying himself, even stretching himself vocally. 1976 live was not his best year live, but theat last week in december ... boy did he get it!!! All Priscilla knows is that he took sleeping pills and uppers in the 60s (like herself and the whole entourage who are still alive and kicking ;-). Besides she will support everything that keeps him in the media and the money machine running.

The problems with his kidneys and especially with his liver (he had hepatitis in 1973) derived from the Alpha-1 deficiency. Most likely he inherited the genetic decease from his mother - just think about the way she died and the way she looked before her death - very similar to him. Priscilla obviously has not idea and no interest in what her ex-husband died of...

I really have great respect for the man for having continued to perform besides the heavy and often sarcastic response by the press - and even his fans. Sue he was under medication a lot - he needed them. Sickness is not a CRIME!

You are totally right there. Elvis had a lot of health issues, unfortunately two major ones that could not be cured up to the time he died. He had colon inertia (a decease where the colon is in the end totally obstructed and you tend to build up a lot of fluid) and a genetic decease called Alpha 1 deficiency (that was diagnosed by Baptist Memorial with help of Mayo Clinic in 1975). People with that one mostly do not get any older than 50.

I wish this was shown as the CBS special instead of what was done...I know it was a different time but still. This may have been one of his best performances since '73. What a damn shame that book had to come out, he surrounded with "yes" men and had a real shitty manager.

elvis presley did his best concert of the year 1976. out of all the unreleased material out there this 12-31-76 concert has recieved the most coverage. it was the 2nd and last new years eve show elvis did. it was alot better than 12-31-75 when he fought obstacle after another. cstanchik

It's a shame they want to tear down the old Civic Arena now. They call it the Mellon Arena now, but they do have plans for an eventual demolition because they have a new stadium. Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania is really changing its face tremendously. I still like Pittsburgh.
