Technically, this is Oakwood *Road*; Oakwood is the crossover 2 1/2 miles south (RR east) of here. Per engineer Marty, "The poorly-named crossover at 6 1/2 Mile Road."
@fuzzyworld3 The little community located around the crossing is actually Oakwood too. According to Google: Oakwood is a community or populated place (Class Code U4) located in Milwaukee County at latitude 42.8581 and longitude -87.9245.
haven't seen one of those amtrack engines in years, didn't think they were still in service until I watched and also read the comments. Sounds like those old mechanical bells are in dire need of adjustment or replacement as well.
I took this August 27, 2008. Those old Amtrak units are still sometimes used on the Hiawatha service. You're right though, they are getting harder to find.
What would happen if a gate came down on a car? I once saw a van almost get hit because it was parked in the way, and there was a vehicle behind it that was too close.
they wouldn't do any damage. they're light as a feather. I once saw a bus which got hit with one and it bounced right off the bus. They're light as a feather. almost anyone could lift up the gate when its down.
yea, it would still be okay. im pretty sure you know that you can actually pick up the guard when its down. i was quite surprised when I saw a transient doing that at a malfunctioning crossing once.

lol did that Defect Detector just say "Work Safely"?
briggsjos 8 months ago
@briggsjos It did indeed. Some of the others along this sub say "Safety First" and "Think Safety" at the end of their message.

do you now how old this crossing is? because the bells are randomly rining.supertrainkid
SuperTrainkid 11 months ago
@SuperTrainkid That's a WC Hayes bell. They just ring kind of randomly like that when the ring rate is adjusted lower.

ausome video please film more trains at this crossing from supertrainkid

I think NTSB needs to let Class 1 Railroads bring Passenger service back, they can do a better job

Canadian Pacific all the way! Ain't nothing like riding in one of those AC4400's in throttle eight at 60 mph.
sockscowboy 2 years ago
Canadian Pacific is the best Canadian road in my opinion.

It's been converted to an NPCU with a baggage compartment where the engine used to be, hence cab-baggage or "cabbage" car.

Would there be damage?
What legal action might be taken?
