Ok...fuckin...K Yeah, this was the Dead when they were the #1 R&R band in the world....yeah, there was no better band in '71. Not sure who was playing piano... Constantine?
thanks for posting. I saw them do this song at my first Dead show three days after this one, on 12/10/71, at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. They only sang six times if memory serves, all in December of 1971. The New Riders opened in St. Louis, and probably on the rest of the tour, too. The shows that tour were simulcast live on FM stations in the local city, so there are good FM source recordings available. Good memories.
Me too!!! That tour they did simulcasts at nearly every city, I think that one was broadcast on KADI in St. Louis. I have a cassette tape somewhere in my basement. I remember being in the balcony during Casey Jones and it felt like the balcony was shaking from everyone stomping. The Dead left and came back to the theater. played One More Saturday night, unfortunately we took off, but got it on the tape. Great initial show for me too, they don't have concerts like that anymore.
when this was played live, jerry should have dressed up as santa. oh my god.
