  • madison square garden in '71? msut have been one helluva scene!

  • The lineup of the Grateful Dead in December of '71 included both Pigpen and Keith Godchaux.

  • Ok...fuckin...K Yeah, this was the Dead when they were the #1 R&R band in the world....yeah, there was no better band in '71. Not sure who was playing piano... Constantine?

  • @rjl032653 No this is early Keith before Donna come on board.

  • merry fucking christmas pig... im blown against the wall :)

  • thanks for posting. I saw them do this song at my first Dead show three days after this one, on 12/10/71, at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. They only sang six times if memory serves, all in December of 1971. The New Riders opened in St. Louis, and probably on the rest of the tour, too. The shows that tour were simulcast live on FM stations in the local city, so there are good FM source recordings available. Good memories.

  • @MrcosmicC can you find a live version of operator not from further

  • @MrcosmicC

Me too!!! That tour they did simulcasts at nearly every city, I think that one was broadcast on KADI in St. Louis. I have a cassette tape somewhere in my basement. I remember being in the balcony during Casey Jones and it felt like the balcony was shaking from everyone stomping. The Dead left and came back to the theater. played One More Saturday night, unfortunately we took off, but got it on the tape. Great initial show for me too, they don't have concerts like that anymore.

  • I always loved "the Dead". I went to many of their concerts around this time.

  • AWESOME!

  • I used to ALWAYS jam this on Christmas. Thanks so much for this!!!

  • @jasonepope77 I will too as soon as I can find which album it is on could you point me in the right direction.

  • thank you!

  • This blew the roof off the Garden!

The Dead could cover anything and make it their own.

  • now this is some sweet rockin christmas music ! go PIG I wish a grateful christmas peace to all.

    thanks fore the post

  • Thanks for sharing! Grate Jam!
