How could anyone not like this movie?!! This is my favorite movie out of all the movies I've ever watched. I can watch this movie over and over again and never get tired of it. It was brilliantly acted and directed. Just a rare gem of a movie.
One of the best scenes in the movie in a scense. No special effects, no special acting skills required... just Rob walking through a crowd of dancing people. Pure simplicity makes some of the most beautiful scenes. Pure art!
Halo, "My life is divinely planned"! I will always remember this highly moving experience. I danced and was a stand in "ALL NIGHT LONG" at Grand Central Station in N.Y. I'm guessing, Robin Wiliams influenced today because both of my TV Angel programs are completely "Unscripted" and real tele-vision journeys through AngelsAtGodCentralStation reflections of One World, One Dream, In the Spirit of Unity. Divine Love & HOly Kisses, Sandra, AngelsAtGodCentralStation
Perfect smaltz. Love the incongruous dance pairs, esp. the two nuns. And the choice of Fenton's music. Heartbreaking film, shedeth tears, my lovelies. Dortheysantapezz, are you nuts or nuts.
The new Burelesque no longer originates in an output of energy by the character, who spreads and grows as before. It arises from the fact that the character places himself (involuntarily) on an energy band which carries him along and which is percisely the movement of the world, a new way of dancing, of modulating: the low frequency wave action takes place of heavy duty mechanics and full blowness of gestures.
- from a chapter about dream and dance used as a portal to enter another world.
This was a wonderful quotation! so glad that you thought fit to share it :) perhaps 'minimalism' is also another word for :''a new way of dancing, of modulating: the low frequency wave action takes place of heavy duty mechanics''.?
There is nothing like a waltz to transport you to another world and this scene in The Fisher King does just that. The first time I visited Grand Central Station and walked into the main concourse, I fully expected (in my fantasy ridden mind) for the lights to start and everyone to break in to the waltz...alas, although it was moving being there, I saw no dancing.
Probabily the most perfect scene Terry Gilliam has directed in his entire career. His first Hollywood film, so he went with something grand and epic, in a rather small film.
This wonderful scene has been inspired by the waltz scene in Federico Fellini's "La voce della luna" ("The voice of the moon"). "The fisher king"'s director Terry Gilliam considers Federico Fellini one of his masters.

This is a finely tuned subtle magic in the story, a favorite of his work.
I came across this writing by Deleuze from "Cinema 2" and I thought about this moment and how perfectly this passage fits.
