@varney2010 that's Raggetty !!! when he appeared in the show the screen filled with his head and really spaced out sounds... He's like magic or something.....anyways anyone around 40 remembers this, cos it was pretty far out for a kid's brain to digest even for the early 70's..... the firefly things are cool too....these are a couple of reasons i have never grown up...
It sickens me that jumble sales became extinct and were over taken by internet selling and car boots. Its blatantly obvious that these damn bears who obviously werent native to this land, were responsible for the demise of our traditional custom of rooting around other peoples waste and moth ball ridden clothing.
Raggerty seemed to appear in lots of episodes to me. I was scarred stiff when he came on screen. Gave me nightmares that thing! Love the song though. Jackie Lee did a great job.
I'd completely forgotten about Rupert and I loved him as a child. I used to like the character that had a head like a turnip. He was always in trouble I think...
Haven't seen or heard this in over 30 years. Bloody Hell, how come I can remember every word of that but cant remember what I turned the computer on for? Thanks for posting this.
you know what? ...its same for me - i used to watch this in the early 70's and i can still remember the song word-for-word all these years later in 2011 such a great song tho

You can see some complete episodes of 70s puppet Rupert as part of RUPERT BEAR NIGHT, at BFI Southbank, London, Wednesday 19th March, 6.15...introduced by the director!
If you like you can go to the national film Theatre in London on the 19th March 08 were they are showing some episodes of Rupert, and afterwards the director will be answering questions.
Fantastic - I actually have this theme recorded on audio tape in 1978, though to see the actual film, is great, and brings back memories of a wonderful decade.
Oh my god! Its been 30+ years - and watching this intro on utube in 2006, I remembered every note, every picture and caption. This is time travel. Thank you!

Its Raggety - I always thought he was a beetroot. Not sure whats more fucked up actually....being scared of a beetroot or being scared of a twig.
Hmmm.

My friends had a band (alternative/punk) called "Jimmy Saville's Wheelchair" and they did an excellent cover of this tune in the eighties.
Their rendition of it saved me from a bad trip at a gig in a cave on the Isle of Arran. What a night!
Oh yeah it also reminds me of my childhood as well.
