I never ever saw the ABA but after watching this and read Looseballs by Terry Pluto I became a fan . I also have five ABA Jersey Customized. Denver Rockets Spencer Haywood, Dan Issel Colonels, Lou Dampier Colonels, Julius Erving Nets, and Maurice Lucas Spirits of St. Louis.
@Wehategod I'm in the same boat. I never saw the ABA but I read the book and watching this special currently. The jersey's look great but what I want is a ball. I found a game used ball on ebay for 500 dollars and maybe someday I'll get my hands on it.
I remember when the Nets played at the old Island Garden before they moved in to the Nassau Coliseum. The Island Garden was so bad that animal dung from the springtime circus at Madison Square Garden used to be dumped behind the arena and left there to compost. By fall, my mom would drag me down there with a pitchfork and cardboard boxes so we could fertilize the veggie garden to provide nutrients for the soil over the winter...
This is very good. If it interests you read "Loose Balls" by Terry Plato. From Dr. J to Marvin Barnes, the ABA was an amazing piece of American history.
@dtiguru Yes, read it- some of the old ABAers don't agree w/all of the things written by Pluto- but...for a fan who was only 10 at the time, any info is cool stuff!
Love the 70s in America when nudity was considered normal and the drinking age was 18. Just like Europe today.

Is that the Teaneck Armory at 2:43 ? That would be the home to the New Jersey Americans in the 1967 season, before they became the NY Nets.

What the ABA produced was good teams and players that became part of the NBA
