Hello! I have a Question.. I have cyclic migraines that end in vomiting, a sensitive stomach, and vitamin D insufficiency. My sister supposedly has IBS and lactose intolerance. My mother also has lactose intolerance and suffers migraines. Her brother has Crohn's disease and his son has IBS. Could Celiac disease be the root of all these problems and the doctors just haven't figured it out yet? From research, I know that it can be confused with all those other things and is also genetic.
Diagnosed with Crohns 15 yrs ago. Told to eat a high protein , low fiber, low residue diet. A couple yrs ago, seen a internal medicine specialist who tested me for everything she could think of knowing I had another auto immune disease. About that same time started having symptoms of MS. Insurance company got my test results, dropped me (high-risk). Never fully developed MS but are still seeing problems when I eat. Pasta is most painful. Can't afford testing and doctors are clueless Ideas?
I've commented on a number of your videos now, talked about my immune problems, possible fibromyalgia label, etc, and this video really had an impact on me. I've had a lot of problems but never related to digestion or food, but now I'm thinking maybe I do - I watched this video a couple of days ago, been gluten free since. What I want to ask is, do you recommend going gluten free for just anybody or should I get tested for sensitivity/celiac?
Yes, this was me! I didn't have any physical reaction of gluten sensitivity for years, but always felt sick, but the dr.'s were like,"there is nothing WRONG with you". Then, I take it out of my diet, and I'm great, add it back to my diet, and I get sick again...
I had the celiac test done by our family dr. I suspect a gluten sensetivity, but the test was negative. What is the difference between celiac and gluten sensetivity, and is there a way to determine if it's caused by leaky gut?
@liajoy83 Celiac is a kind of gluten sensitivity. The way a poodle is a kind of dog. You can't really determine if the gluten sensitivity was caused by a leaky gut. You can do a HLA DQ DNA typing with enterolabdotcom and find out if you have the genes that predispose you to gluten sensitivity or not. You can also do a leaky gut test with cyrex labs, but need a doctor to order it. So..if you don't have the genes, but DO have the leaky gut, then you could say the LG caused the gluten sensitivity.
Would avoiding gluten posibly be a cure to ulcerative colitis or should I continue to take my Imuran prescription that my doctor gave me that suppresses my immune system?
@zizzyzam If I had Ulcerative Colitis, I would be on a gluten-free diet and I would get tested for Cross-Reactive foods. I can't tell you whether or not take a medication.
Thank you! It is so good to see a doctor who knows about this!
I self diagnosed myself with gluten sensitivity or celiac a few months ago. Suffered from CFS, severe depression/self harm, anxiety, bipolar, slight autism, ataxia... and so much more since birth... I thought it was who I was! And then to discover that all of these symptoms were from gluten (and dairy and soy)... It's mind boggling. It is also mind boggling how many families have a person who is gluten intolerant.
@MsKarenrankin i think mine is too.. because i cut out bread and most grains and my skin has improved dramatically... i only eat buckwheat, which does not include gluten :=)) tell me about how you found out wheat was to cause to your acne ?? what made your case for you ?
Have been on gluten free diet for month now after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis following contracting the superbug CDiff when pregnant. Doctors confused as being too young to catch it!!! However when 18 I got vega testing done after chronic ezema and told I was allergic to wheat and cow's milk. Went on strict diet; GP and family laughed at my persistence and I eventually relented. Years of chronic illness before I nearly died with bug. Why is celiac disease not standard test now?
i found out that i was gluten sensitve when i went on the adkins diet, my joint pain went away. i became less tired, i became less moody. i had gone to the doctor and they couldnt figure out why my ankles wouldn't heal up. ( i had sprained them badly) well it was because of the gluten i was eating. as soon as i started the adkinss diet, POOF! no more pain! no more swelling and no more hives! heh go figure.
After 20 years of intestinal misery I was finally diagnosed with a video capsule that showed my showed my Celiac disease in the distal small bowel,All of my blood test were negative, My sister also has this disease.
Does one have to remain Gluten/candida/caesin free forever? My daughter had very bad reactions to the gardasil shot and has been on her diet for 4-5 months now. She is much better, her leaky gut seems better, but she wants cheese and gluten foods. Can they be reintroduced or will she have to stay off them forever? How would you reintroduce these things?
Depends. Many people have known genes that predispose them to have an immune reaction to gluten. We don't know if the same is true for casein. If she has the genes, then I would say, no--dont' reintroduce gluten ever. Many people also have an "opiate" problem with these proteins. Literally, when they eat gluten and casein, they form gliadomorphin and caseomorphin which attach to opiate receptors in the brain. There they affect brain function and immune system function.
I was diagnosed with MS 4 years ago, refused the pharmaceutical drugs they told me I needed. I embarked on a dietary program and eliminated all gluten.....today I feel better than I have in 25 years. Gluten is poison for me!
You rock! I put this video on my blog today (TheSkinnyOnline) so my readers can learn too. I linked to your website too. I gave up gluten even though I didn't have major intestinal reactions to it. I just had chronic pain and brain fog. I gave up the gluten and am healing nicely. Thanks for spreading the truth!!
That's the biggest misunderstanding about gluten reactivity..it's an IMMUNE system problem that can manfiest as an attack on ANY tissue or substance in the body.
thanks for posting this video Dr. Clark...I am a pharmacist and I would agree and I surmise that gluten sensitivity is a major factor across America in numerous diseases/disorders
I know where you are coming from but I think you're over exaggerating with the complications of wheat germ. Most people can tolerate sp wheat germ oil even gluten sensitive people. I agree the patients must be tested before prescribed rather than relying on symptoms. I use kinesiology to detect reactons to certain products and use sesame seed oil instead if indicated.
I noticed sense I stopped eating gluten my nose stopped being stuffy all the time.
Great info on Coffee cross-reacting, I have Crohn's, and diet and colloidal silver is the only thing keeping me off drugs.
