I adore this film - marvelous, gorgeous, melodious......with great acting, producing, editing, directing. Roy Scheider deserved the Oscar for this role - phenomenal acting. Other actors/actresses were brilliant too
1979 is one of my all time favorite years in film - All That Jazz, Alien, Rocky 2, Apocalypse Now, Moonraker, Mad Max, Kramer vs Kramer, The China Syndrome, The Brood, Tess, 1941 etc
One of my favorite films when I was in high school. That was 30 years ago! I've seen it numerous times, and as I get closer and closer to Joe Gideon's age, the film speaks even more deeply to me. See what all you youngsters have to look forward to?
Cirque Du Soleil inspired my high school dance team, our school is known for its good jazz dancers and unique performances, we have been wining many of our competitions every year, putting in a lot of effort and style has given us the advantage to win. It was really a clever film about all that jazz involved in that business world of movies. Bob Fosse imagined his own life and physical decadence to write the plot. The result was spectacular as can be seen. He understood perfectly that the show must go on and on, above all.
I'm 21 now but my grandma use to show this film to me after preschool. I can't believe it now looking back, then again I also watched Rocky Horror when I was 5. hehe, my grandma kicks ass
# Davis Newman: This chick, man, without the benefit of dying herself, has broken down the process of death into five stages: anger, denial, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Sounds like a Jewish law firm. "Good morning, Angerdenialbargainingdepressionacceptance!"
................There's all this bullshit about death with dignity. You know what death with dignity is, man? You don't drool.
I had a friend going to Cornish at the time this came out. We watched this movie like 12 times. Anytime someone asked about it we were lets go watch it. first couple of times she studied the film then the audience. She said it always cracked her up on the open heart part. I was watching every detail, others were hiding their eyes. grin. And yeah I'd watch it 12 more times.
I saw this movie in 1979 when I had just graduated from school, I have thereafter gone through life, many times looked for this movie on video shops , lately on DVD/CD shops, never found it, today I had the time to search here and saw the song "bye bye my life.... and believe me, each move, each word, each note, came alive....29 years it has been in my memory, alive! BRILLIANT is the word for the movie.
Thanks for posting the song. I love films with song and dance by Fosse. What I especially loved in the film is finding out that Jessica Lange's character was not yet thought out. Fosse finished the first half of the film before changing the subconscious character at the end to his angel of death. It is strange that he died walking with a friend through a park and simply felt like laying down on a bench and then died. He did great work.

Here's a question for you "All That Jazz" fans...maybe you can answer it for me, and settle an argument:
The girl at the beginning of the scene wearing the pilot's hat and singing (essentially the soloist/main dancer), and then the girl who takes her top off and dances on the platform during the Air-otica part...
Are these the same woman? Are they both Sandahl Bergman? Or are they two separate people? Their faces look quite different, as well as their builds.

Despite the great dancing, this scene still makes me laugh, because of the response from the composer: "Now Sinatra will never record it."
