His behavior is very similar to good old Hofmann's: same body unity, same elegant, minimal gestures that accompany the intent (e.g. fake vibrato near the end), aerial fluidity, absolute ease... the contrary of Horowitz for example. Same obvious introversion as well as this poor Hofmann: fees are due to the artist, prayers to the man.

So what?
@Chisy1234 Very, Chisy. The trick here is to get the big picture...and convey it to the audience while maintaining perfect technique (which you need a LOT of here) and the quality of sound..This is Tchaikovsky!!! Sound is delicate...and fragile at times...you need....something god-given to play tchaikovsky well...It was very difficult, and I was not ready for it when I learned it....but you may be :) I don't know...make sure it's not boring though!
I love the moment when he's playing an octave melody with his left hand and scaling the whole piano with his right hand...and his eyes are closed. And then he looks up in the general direction of the camera with this look that's just like "I know...I'm amazing..."
I've read ridiculious article about this recital, where the author compares Pletnev and Lang Lang (!!). Nowadays Pletnev is uncomparable. He is definitely the central and most important figure in modern pianism. I regret he doesn't play anymore for public.
This was the Barbican, a sunday afternoon, March 2003 - I was right at the back, and didn't get a chance to watch the tv broadcast that night . Thanks so much for this - I've never forgotten the "Dumka", or the end of the Fantasy.
Horowitz's, in my opinion, is more sweeping, and coherent. Love the clarity of Pletnev's playing however.

@bobinobaker So far I know, nothing proves he's guilty. But if he is, that would be a very bad thing.

@Chisy1234
im studying it now, the notes are not extremely difficult, but making the right deep sound and keeping the long breath is very treacherous.
this registration is my favorite so far, mr pletnev doesnt play thenotes, he plays the music

You are so right! What a loss to all of us who love music. At least he still conducts! God bless him! His artistic input is priceless!
