Teaching mine to talk was easy... we made a recording saying the same phrase several times, with a good 5-10 seconds pause between. Alternate between a few different words/phrases, but make sure you don't overwhelm them. I'd say a max of 5 things at once is plenty. Record this for about 5 minutes and loop it over and over using your computer/tape player. Play it when you're gone from the house and they'll pick it up in no time!

Having two ore more budgies mean you cant teach them talk is false. You can teach your budgies to talk, but you have to separate them out and spend time with each one. This is a lot more time consuming , of course, than teaching just one budgie to talk. There's a bird owner who has several budgies that can talk and they all share the same room.

@yeonrox One thing I learned with my parakeet is that it needs to know it can trust you. My parakeet had a former owner that didn't know how to take care of it, so it was pretty traumatized. It took about a couple months before he was willing to let me put my hand in the cage without flying around. How "sudden" is this change in behavior?

@blah2daworld23 Unfortunately, if you have a couple parakeets, they don't need human interaction as badly as just one. They'll depend on each other for attention. If their wings are clipped they shouldn't have a problem both coming out of the cage. It also depends how you reach for them in the cage; if your palm is facing toward you they feel less threatened than if you reach in and "grab." Hope this helps!

I had a parakeet as a teenager that I handled a lot. He spent about 2-4 hours late in the day outside of his cage. I'd sit and read out loud to myself and enjoy his quite company. When it was time for him to go back into his cage I would always say " Alright sky, its time for bed" I would than pick him up and put him in his cage. Initially I had to pick him up and put him in his cage but one day he stood up and waddled to the cage on his own when I said it was time for bed! I loved that bird.

I've always wished I could get my Muninn to talk. He was hatched in september of last year so he's just under a year old, has gone through his first molt and the blue coloring on his cere is just starting to become vibrant. He sings a lot to music, and makes the "angry budgie" sound whenever I'm laughing hysterically about something (I think he's laughing with me) but so far there hasn't been any discernable words from him though occasionally I think I hear hm softly chirp his name. Any tips?

@Court0132 well i had a budgie for three years and he didnt start talking till he was two and a half, i dont think theres really a distinction on which type of bird is a better talker but the bird its self, i tried to teaching mine to talk but all i got was "peep" when he was two he started taking interest in words.All budgies are different, they all learn differently

my parakeet learned to mock my cell phone ring. It used to drive me crazy because she had it down so good it was identical to my actual phone's ringer. She also used to nip, so natural she learned the word "ouch" and would say it quite often. She just passed away (She was 14 years old!) and I miss it. :( They are awesome birds for sure

@SCskits98 They're not dumb. Parakeets are among the best talking parrots. They're right up there with the African Grey parrots. A budgie holds the Guiness Book World record for speaking the most words by any parrot. I think it 1700 words. You can look it up on Wikipedia.

There have been cases of birds who may* have known what they were saying. Look up Victor the Parakeet! So some may just be repeating words, but others may know more than we think.

i have 4 budgies and mine dont talk like some raving budgies , but the things they do say are coherant and said to get spacific things or expres views

stuf like "i love you" "sleep""flie" etc

ex when they want to "snuggel" they say "i love you" to eachother.
